Hi guys,

I got a Tesla Nano 60W recently. I'm wondering how can I charge it since it has an input of 5V and 2A ?

Currently I only have an iPhone and iPad wall adapter...5V/1A and 5.2V/2.4A respectively. Should I just plug it through USB to my computer for now and just get a 5V/2A wall adapter tomorrow ?

Thanks

So I should also avoid plugging it to my computer with the supplied USB cable ? I'll have to wait until tomorrow to buy an wall adapter then.

It isn't. It's just a regular Macbook Pro outputting 0.5A at 5V since it doesn't even have USB3 yet to reach the 1.1A.

Thanks for your help

Yeah, I would use a 2A wall wart when you can get one. You might damage the USB on the machine.

You can charge using the 5V 1 amp wall charger no problem. I would not use the 2.4A.

I bought a 5V/2.1A and it's charging now. I hope it's fine.

Don't understand why mods don't come with a dedicated charger. Perhaps companies don't wan't to take on any responsibilities?

Every mod I've ever bought came with a charger.

It comes with the USB cable, not the wall adapter. Every other piece of electronics I buy comes with the USB cable and respective wall adapter so that you don't damage the equipment and extend it's life span.

So far, from the mods I bought and others I see, you either have to source the adapter yourself or buy the adapter separately from the package.

The charger is built into your mod. What you're hooking it up to (wall wart or USB port) through the USB cable they give you is a power supply.

The mod will draw 2A max when charging as per the specs and as long as your power supply is rated for 2A minimum you're going to be fine. If the power supply is rated for more than 2A that's even better. The mod's built in charger will only draw the amps it needs so having more available will keep the wall wart cooler which is good.

I charge mine using my computer's USB port, it is only 500mA but that only make it take longer to charge

If they want you to use a specific charger they should include the fucking thing in the first place

Ryedan, thanks for the clarification. It did charge relatively fast and the wall wart never got hot.

However, when you search the web for this information, there seems to be people advising to never exceed the input specs of the device and others advising to never use less than the input specs, which might confuse some people like me.

Rabbit Slayer, although I agree with you, I still advise you to buy a 5V/2A wall adapter because it's really fast to charge (around 1 hour and 30 min) and it seems like everyone advises to do so for devices with this input.

As long as it's a 5V USB supply it makes no difference safety wise as to the Amp rating of the wall adapter.

Current is pulled, not pushed. A 2A wall adapter means the device is rated to have up to 2A pulled from it. It doesn't mean that the adapter will push 2A into an appliance. The appliance will negotiate the correct current to draw from each supply it's plugged into.

You could quite safely use a supply rated for example at 10A. Your device would only draw a maximum of 2A from it, as that's all its capable of drawing.

This is a over a year old post. But are you talking about the little ole ass USB cord? I took to mean the prior poster meant something like Why don't they come with a Battery charger as in separate from the mod?
