Alright guys so I'm no stranger to sub ohm builds, been dripping sub ohm almost exclusively for about 6 months now. Last few weeks I started to venture into the lower res builds (.25 and under) and although I'm getting some thick fluffy clouds I just feel like I'm not achieving them competition grade clouds. Any tips would be much I generally just rock 22g or 24g micro or macro coils, what can I do to take this to the next level?

I am in the same boat as you, if my digging around is correct, its not just the build. Build + Airflow + Inhale + exhale = Hugantic Cloud. I still haven't nailed it myself, but here is a vid that has helped me alot :

You need to go .06 ohm or lower if you looking to get into competition clouds.

120 watt raptor chip in a hammond box with dual 18650's will help your cause.
There is a reason regulated boxes are not allowed in cloud comps :)

At .35ohms I can blow bigger clouds than any build at any resistance that I can put on a mech.

The Mutation X dripper is a huge help too.

I've been to cloud comps and I rock a tobh with custom top cap and dual 22 gauge parallel gplat ohms out @.05 super sub ohm

Just got some 22 and 20 gauge kanthal, never used this thick before. I bet theres a lot of knowledge here about lower gauge wires, and i want to know how many wraps should i do etc to keep the ramp up time reasonable. Batteries are capable of 32A continiuos and the atty will be Mutation X, someone was gonna ask :D so airflow should be good and batteries are safe. Mechanical mod ofc.

Just curious want battery you power that .05 build with?
Ohms law states that .05 build pulls
a whopping 84 Amps at 4.2 V...gotta be some batt to handle that load safely I would think.

84A it most certainly isn't. That's ignoring the battery's internal resistance, and the resistances from the mod's connectors, spring and button, all of which are far from insignificant with a short-circuit-like coil such as this.

The internal resistance of a typical 18650 battery for instance is around 0.1 ohm. So basically, with a 0.05 ohm coil, our friend here spends about two third of the power delivered by the battery frying the battery itself each time he presses the fire button. A very good, fresh 18650 may have an internal resistance in the low 30 mohm. That's still 3/8th of the power used to heat up and damage the battery.

I'll never understand why sub-ohmers aren't required by law to take a basic electricity class before doing stuff like that. The fact that so few people hurt themselves is a tribute to the battery manufacturers really... But hey, to each his own :)

I hear what your saying..I too am a cloud chaser and moved to the 3500 mAh 26650..my builds seldom go below .15 ohms and typically pull about 28A..I use the 26650 Efest rated at 32A cont/64A pulse to be safe..this batt lasts all day on a single charge and its the best I've found to date..and blows clouds that have to be seen to be believed.. Long as I obey ohms law I've never had a problem, proving to myself that sub ohm vaping can be safe, and a lot of fun too!

That's insane... And very unsafe..its stuff like this that will get mech mods banned someday when fools like yourself get hurt or hurt others around you when your battery suddenly vents....

Been reading the posts, and I have to say, I'm quite comfy with the clouds I'm getting from my Vulcan dual build, 26 ga. Kanthal, @ 0.06. I just cannot concieve of going to 0.03 or lower. I've had 1 battery vent on me, and it wasn't very pretty. Not gonna call myself a cloud chaser, I'm more of a taste junkie. But watching the cloud comps is fun, but don't want to be on the recieving end of a venting battery ever again. Be safe, vape on!

Hard to believe .06 with 26g..I run parallel 26g duals at only .15 ohms..hell, my dual 22g is at only .11 .. I can see dual 26g easily being .6 but not .06..my opinion only...

I've seen so much on huge clouds.
How you must build bastardely low 0.08 or 0.05.
I call bullshit.

I've taken 2 cloud comps with a 0.3 dual coil build.

It's not just how low can you go.
It's build. Airflow. And exhale
Massive emphasis on the exhale.

The last comp I was back to back with a little 80 lb lady who was blowing rings around everyone.
We stood back to back and she coughed as she exhaled making her cloud go no where. That's the only reason I won that one.
I asked her to show me how she was blowing such massive cloud . She said she just blows like she's trying to warm her hands.
I tried it and my cloud almost doubled in thickness.

Also remember the more VG the thicker the cloud.

Sorry to add to a new post but yes that really says .05 ive been using this build for about 2 months with 2 Samsung 25rs in a parallel box

Heres a link to a youtube video on Ohms law, seriously what you are doing is quite dangerous. Irresponsible usage of an unregulated mod is the kind of thing that gives people the misconception that everyone holding a Mod is waiting to blow their face off. Please be safe its a quick video!

I've never had any problems I get about 2 or 3 pulls on a fresh battery

Since you don't post a lot on VU as of late, I'm going to ask the entire group if they can possibly clarify that statement.

Is he saying
1. Fresh batt
2. Two or three pulls
3. Dead batt
??

It seems that worked for a while...since he's gone I'm wondering if the equation changed to

1. Fresh batt
2. Two or th...
3. BOOM

Just read this thread and it made my brains hurt. ive never been to a 'cloud comp' and if that's the kind of builds being used I'm shocked Isis isn't building these coils.

Am I the only one to believe that the airflow is VERY important when it comes to blowing clouds?
I only wick one way and I think it works best for my atty. Glacer v2. The two post help my airflow so much. It is so much more then just low ohmage.

at 4v thats an 80A build! even if you have a triple 18650 parallel mod, each batt with a 30A limit, man it seems like thats pushing it further than you oughta... especially if your irish, yea we've got luck... ALL BAD lol

I'd hoped not...

But... but... this thread is amazing.

Would you consider moving it? "What Not To Do." It can live in infamy there, for all to gape at and enjoy.

Plus, someone has to add a rant about the inaccuracy of cheap ohm readers.

those cheap ohm readers are inaccurate! that concludes my rant.

one pro tip that has not been mentioned yet is...titanium coils! low resistance with good heat retention and good ramp up.

I've been Vaping @ .06 on a Rig mod with a Roughneck atty for over a year with no issues, battery doesn't even get hot. Don't know why all y'all are giving this dude shit 20g 4wrap around 3mm post 316 SS wire
Just my 2 cents....vape on....
