Blew a battery... what about the second of the pair?

Basically, a battery of mine seems to have become no good. I do vape very low with these batteries (around .12-.14) but they definitely have appropriate specs, and I only use in my parallel mech in this case.

Everything seemed OK while vaping but when I went to put the batteries in the charger, one immediately showed fully charged while the other did not. I tried to move the bays just make sure it wasn't an indicator issue, same thing. I took that one out and left the other one in, which has continued to charge normally for the last 90 minutes or so.

These batteries are not that old, but not brand new. I believe I got them 5-6 months ago, but they could be a tad bit older.

I can only assume there's an issue with the battery that was showing as fully charged, immediately. I'm honestly not even really comfortable trying it in a regulated.

Being that this was a paired set, always used together and mostly in a parallel mech box, should I be suspicious of the other battery? It seems like yes, but I honestly don't know. Is it possible for only one battery in a purely parallel set up to have an issue, and the other remain fine?

To be clear, I understand the pair is essentially kaput and I would never use the seemingly-working battery in a mech or as a paired set with another. Just trying to figure out a) what's going on here, besides the obvious answer that I probably have one bad batt I shouldn't use and b) whether or not there's any reason I can't at least try the second battery in a regulated, single battery device, providing it continues to appear to be charging normally.

The battery that was not drained may not be making contact and the mod was running off one battery. Check the battery sled with an ohm meter. With no batteries in the positive posts should show 0Ω across them and so should the two negative posts. This works for a parallel box not a series. It'll tell you if the battery sled is making contact internally. If you don't have a meter, a parallel mod will work with one battery so see if it fires with one battery in one slot then move it to the other slot and see if it still fires. This will eliminate the mod as the problem. That's the only reason I can think of for only one battery draining.

New batts are not 6 months old. What charger are you using? Rotate the batts in the batt tray location every other use.

@Angrygod50 thanks, I'll try that if it seems like I need to.... although I don't THINK it's a draining thing as much as a dead thing, but I can't be certain. Even when I stick a fully charged battery in that charger, it takes a little longer on average to read it as fully charged. Like, it will show as charging for 15 seconds before it shows it full. This one was showing full in maybe 5 seconds, which is what made me suspicious. But, like I said, I'll take a look at the mod as a factor too. Are you quite certain there's nothing unsafe about testing a parallel mech with one battery, providing the resistance is appropriate for that battery's specs.

@Zamazam I did not say they were new; you must have misread. I said they are not brand new but could be 5-6 months old or a tad older; i.e. they are not old enough to be at the end of their natural life at the rate I charge/discharge. I do rotate batteries in both the mod and charger. It is a Nitecore 2014 4-bay intellicharger.

ok, then rotate the batts in the tray for each charge.

I had a similar issue 6 months ago with my parallel dos equis...the mods power would deplete after 5 hours instead of me swapping the batteries out after around ten hours....this happened 3 times in 2 weeks...cleaned up the mods terminals and problem solved...these batteries are now 18 months old and still fine... I have 10 Samsung 25R batteries on the go and never deliberately pair them...my main vape is 350+w...my occasional vape is 1200+w...my rare vape is 3500+w...clean your mod terminals...your battery simply hasn't been making contact in your mod...(I currently run without issues a 6 coil incubus parallel and a 6 coil lucifer series both with so horney rdas...the 3500+w is a controlled short quad notched build on another so horney )....happy vaping

@Zamazam I do; I'm not sure what you took "I rotate the batteries in both the mod and the charger" to mean. I could have been a little more clear by specifying the charging bays but yeah, I rotate religiously both in the battery tray and charging bays.

@Freejep there's a high likelihood this mod needs to be cleaned, but I'm not at all comfortable doing so myself. I know someone who can though, so maybe that's one thing to do. I'm not sure if the battery can be saved or not (It's $6; no matter) but I'm a little gun-shy using the mod again anyway until I get it spiffed up some.

Yes..i have..but not any more..it was built only as an experiment.
..I've built a quad notched 0.02 ohm controlled short build...remote wicked...

Set on the lucifer series the notched coils get to over 3500w with fresh batteries...

What makes you worry about cleaning the contacts, etc. in your mod?

If you can see any black spots/darker areas on your mods battery contact pads it will just be a buildup of carbon that needs scraping/filing/sanding off...then you're good to go again..learn strip and rebuild yourself...our mods need to be well maintained to keep us as safe as possible ....

It was a controlled short build as an experiment...if you are familiar with dead short builds then you'll know they are a pain in the ass to measure because the ohms are so low...i calculated mine to be 0.0165 when complete (quad 5mm bore 0.1mm wall notched 316L and bridged over 7mm span)...my multimeters only work to 2 decimal places..one read 0.02 ohms the other read 0.01 ohms.

..so my calculations for 3.5kw were at the low end of 7.8 volts at 0.0165 ohms....i overcurrent test all my very low builds until the coils degrade and fracture....

the test setup had overcurrent thermal failure in under 3 seconds....almost like a light bulb filament failing but without the pop...just a very bright light..this is the moment of failure on my test setup..

I only vaped this setup for fractions of a second each time...so with ohms at 0.0165 and a pair of 4.29v R25's in series giving over 8v to the short coils it gave way over 3.5kw....just call me Doc lol

Holy Shit. According to ohms law you are putting over 500 amps through those batteries which safely top out at 45ish (2 in series) and 4.2kw
Nothing is safe about that at all. I have no idea how the battery didn't explode in your face to be honest

the very high amps were not an issue as I deliberately made the coils the weakest link in the build...during testing,the short notch coils gave thermal failure in under 3 seconds with the batteries still cold to touch...so zero danger of venting....
The notch coils are 0.1mm wall thickness (the same as a human hair)...or its like using 39AWG wire(extremely fragile)....if I had used claptons or aliens or 20AWG to get the low ohms then that would be pretty stupid and I'd probably not have a hand to type this...

The only reason for the build was to see what was possible in the safest way I could think of...i can now say I've been there, done that,but i won't be going there again...it was too fecking hot...even for the fraction of a second that the firing button got pressed...happy vaping
