Volcano Finally Releases Lavabox M DNA75

Only took two months, but the long awaited release of the Lavabox Mini DNA75 is finally here. $99.00 with free S/H from volcanoecigs.com. I personally am going to wait for the online reviews, but looks pretty nice. Had my eye on the SMY DNA75, and for 50 bucks on most online retailers, still might have to pick it up. I guess my only question would be about battery life of a single 18650 DNA device.

I want a dna device but all the 200 devices seem to be a little out of my current price range.. So I got pretty excited when I saw the lava box 75.. Besides being able to try out the DNA chip I'll have my hands on a really nice looking mod.. So as long as nobody reviews it and says that it's a dud I'm going for it

It looks really nice but I still like the hcigar nano. Is the lava made in the states or abroad?

Anyone have one of these yet? I've been looking at one but am a little trigger shy from the price

I just ordered a Blood Red M DNA 75 a few minutes ago. I have a 10% code if you need it. Hopefully I'll have it by the end of the week.

I picked one up tonight.
Very compact and lightweight.
Looks like the plastic around the buttons will scratch easy.
TBH it has a cheap-ish feel to it.
But it's a DNA!
And if you plan to use it at or near full power with low builds make sure you have good batteries or it will squawk at you!
.15Ω at 75W with a 25R at 90% I noticed the display dimming when firing and it did give me a weak battery notification. Put a fully charged BH6 (pink one) in there, no dimming or weak battery notification. At lower wattages this isn't an issue. The 30A 18650s (the real ones) are typically 1.5~2Ah so vaping at full power means frequent battery swaps. But at least you have that option!

Have not connected to escribe yet to take a look under the hood. Will do that tomorrow.

I was hoping for more at that price, I'm used to nice hefty mechs and such so plastic is disappointing.

The best way to explain it would be say comparing the heft of an incubus to this mod would be like...

Comparing an all metal housing B&D industrial drill from the 70s to one of the all plastic DeWalt drills today.

The mod is made out of Aluminum. The Plastic is just over the front display and buttons. If it was Zinc alloy it would be heavier but I prefer 6061 Billet Aluminum (Zinc is cheaper not really any sturdier). I have two of the DNA200 Lavaboxes and I don't think they feel cheap at all. To each his own.

From their site;
The LAVABOX M DNA 75 Blood Red Box Mod is an exquisitely designed vaping device built from high quality 6061-billet aluminum alloy for a mod that is built to be corrosion-resistant, strong and sturdy, yet remaining lightweight. Like its predecessors, the LAVABOX M DNA 75 is a box mod that will last its owner for many years of dependable vaping.

We have furnished the LAVABOX M DNA 75 Blood Red box mod with the same superb deep crimson hue that made our special edition DNA 200 an unforgettable device. Our Blood Red LAVABOX devices are specially treated with a superior-grade oxidized red pigment to create its one-of-a-kind dark red finish. This treatment makes the device that much more eye-catching and its special coating also adds an anti-slip textured finish.

I have the 75. The 200 may not feel the same way.
But I paid more for the Sig213 than this thing!
That makes (the DNA75) feel like a bargain in comparison.
That site offering the 30A efest 18650 with this mod is laughable as well!

Just an update. The top magnet in the cover came out and was stuck to the respective magnet in the mod! I noticed the demo in the case at the store was like this too. Looks like they didn't use enough adhesive to hold it in place. A drop of CA (superglue) fixed this issue.

Also even with the HB6 I'm seeing serious drop (display dimming) and weak battery squawks now. The mod is heating up. Put both the 25R and HB6 in the charger and they're at 3.83 and 3.72V respectively.

Definitely need to take a look at settings in escribe. This definitely isn't right!

I do like how this feels in hand and the look of it though. And most DNA users already know what they're getting into so it shouldn't pose a problem, this is not a n00b device, that's for sure!

I have had my vt75 flash charge a few times at higher watts with a 26650 so I tried with a 18650nand it stopped , even with the battery at 50% I have yet to run the test on my nano but I assume it will be the same , maybe just have to tweak the settings Gs in escribe to get it right

Make sure you have the latest update Steve posted in the VT 133 thread (from 8-8-16). I do not get the weak battery warning nearly as much in my VT 75s after this update.

Updated to 8-8-16 on the 75 here...

Here's a plot from mine with a 25R powering it:

Capture1.png

Quite a bit of drop occurring.

.15OHM Octuple coil in TFV8 @75W.

Also there's no adjustment on the 75 for battery power?

Running the SP from Evolve (May?) now. The 8-8-16 is a beta? I understand it's OK on all except the zip charge boards that Vaporshark use.

If you want to run at 75 watts I would suggest getting a DNA200 (133 when running with 2 cells). As I've always posted, 75 watts out of a single 18650 is really pushing it. That's why I laugh when I see device after device listing 200 watts and above from Dual 18650's. The batteries can only supply so much power per battery. IMO 75 is asking a lot from an 18650. I plan on using mine at my normal 30 watts with 50 watts preheat, 5 punch, for 1 second. If I need more power I'll use a dual 18650 mod or triple 18650/lipo. Common sense tells me anything over 50-60 watts is asking too much per cell. You can see it for yourself on the graph.

Cheers,
Steve

It seems excessive (vdrop) for a DNA device. Other far cheaper devices running a single 18650 don't have this issue with this much drop.
3.75V @25A is ~94W. If the device is 80% efficient (total) which is not entirely unreasonable, that comes out to 75W.

I also agree that I don't like to run my devices WOT as well. I prefer to use a 75W device at around 30-45W. A 200W device around 95 etc. The 75 OTOH seems to struggle with full power output unlike the 200W DNA devices (both 3S lipo and 3X 18650) that I have. The device seems to heat up and the heat doesn't seem to be coming from the board but the battery holder itself. Time to break out the FliR i7 for that. ;)

As far as other dual 18650s that do 200W there are limits in most. The Liasimo L3 can push the amps with no problem. But it does need good batteries to do it.

Just out of curiosity, how do you know what kind of drop the other cheaper devices have at 75 watts without a program like Escribe to hook them up to?

I don't. But they don't get as hot nor flash weak battery so soon. I should not be seeing 'battery weak' after four or five full power hits at under three seconds each. I have with other single 18650 boxes with weak batteries like the HG2 rejects that barely squeak with 13A or so. But that is expected. No this happened with a 25R, then a HB6. Both in excellent condition, less than 1 full cycle fresh off the charger. And all my new cells came from Liion W. so I know they're legit and good.

I have the newest firmware and set up some profiles to my liking so I will try again in a bit.

I could have a defective unit.
I have not cracked it open. The wiring could be inadequate, etc.
This device is new to market meaning no real reviews (Daniel) etc.

I'm not writing it off as a POS.
Even if the assembly turns out to be junk I'll have no problem putting the board in another box and providing it with a pair of 18650s, etc.

But if I were doing this all over again, I would have picked up a Therion instead.

Wow they cut it close getting this one out in time, shame they didn't get the grips too, and now don't think they can add them, which would suck, as I wanted to get the black with blue grip, if can get it cheaper, then probably get the black one, as really liking the DNA 75 devices personally :)

I see no reason why they can't sell grips. Calling a grip a tobacco product is really a reach. I got my tracking number for the Blood Red earlier tonight. I'm looking forward to receiving it.

Yes, this is going to be my first DNA75. It's been tough but I've been holding off waiting for this one in particular. The Blood Red DNA200 is my favorite 3s Lipo DNA200. I knew I was going to have to get this, so I practiced patience (there is a first for everything :giggle:)

OK been vaping at 35W / 0.52OHM on Tobeco Super Mini Tank. Much better. 25R was down to 84% and now has wandered back to 88%. LOL, never seen that before! The size of this box and the fire button are perfect in hand. Side of my thumb fits like a glove on that button. I don't know if it's the newer firmware, settings, higher resistance and lower wattage or a combination of them all but it's much better (for me) now.

This is (typically) how I roll. That and 316L TC averaging 30-40W on pulls with good flavor and consistent hits.
That will be tomorrow's test. All of my DNA 200s pass that test with aplomb. Let's see what the 75 can do!

I just got home and the Blood Red Lavabox was waiting. It's one beautiful piece of gear. Very small and lightweight. It just feels like a quality piece to me. I just put my Supreme on it with Dual Clapton SS316L 28, 36 coils, .41 ohms, 7 wraps, 2.5mm. I'm just using the preset 316 setting and it's vaping like a dream.

I think it will be plenty of power for me, especially with my normal 28ga SS316 dual coils that ohm out to around .31 ohms. I usually vape those at 30 watts with 50 preheat, 5 punch, for 1 second.

The only problem I see with this is that the finish is so Damn Nice that I'm going to be nervous to take it out.

Here's some quick pictures I snapped of the Blood Red DNA200 next to it's little brother the Blood Red M DNA75. I haven't taken off the peel off screen protector yet. That's why the screen shots of the 75 look a little funky.

Edit: I added the second picture with the screen protector off

I bought a 5 pack of each color (Black, Blue, and Red) from FT when they were having a 10% sale. The 5 packs are a better deal than the each price. :D

The Supreme is my Vapeocalypse tank. I have a few unopened and 4 extra bases as well (it was accumulated over time, when sales popped up). I like to think I'm a pretty good shopper.

The Blood Red Lavabox75 is really nice. Just like the DNA200 version, only smaller. The only problem being it looks so nice, it makes me nervous. Think I might need a back-up :D;)

Lol. I'm glad you are so prepared. Now you'll need the black 75 with a blue door to go with the blue glass...Looking at the Lil Lava has me thinking. I was really wanting the Nano Vt. They are basically the same price. Do you know if Volcano is asking for the last four SS# and first born child?

@Wingsfan0310 Since I'm sure you have the Lil 75 in your hand at this very moment, could I trouble you for some dimensions. Little info on the Volcano webby...I'm thinking the weight is going to be same or less than the nano vt, just unsure how big/small this thing is compared to nano.

Also @Wingsfan0310 how deep is the 510. I have a couple toppers that have longer 510's...I think I'm pretty satisfied I want to get this little beauty. I just need to finish my comparisons between this and nano. I was just reading that the nano 510 may have issues with longer 510's. And the magnetic battery flippy thing on the nano is ticking some folks off. I admit, I am attracted to the looks of the nano though. But what really matters is function over form.
