Good evening everyone,

So I am here to seek answers to my current health status with vaping. I have been cig free and vaping for 15 days now. I started with a simple AIO vape pen and found the device was getting to hot for my liking. I then moved to a E Leaf system with a Nautilus X tank. I was vaping MAX VG tobacco blend that I was in love with. I think started to feel kind of funny about a week in. I noticed that I was starting to get some headaches, nothing crazy, it was dull and annoying. I then started to feel sick, like flu symptoms and I have felt like this for four or five days now. Today is actually the first day I feel a bit better. I vape anywhere from a 3mg nic to a 6 mg nic. I don't usually vape the 6 as it makes me kind of sick, too much nic. Anyways, my symptoms are, stiff neck and muscles, headache, heavy chest, irritated skin (only when I brush my hand across my arm or something), dizziness, anxiety, gas in my stomach and bowels.

I am just not too sure if I have a allergic reaction to PG or if this is dehydration, a reaction to a flavour or something not even related to the vaping.

I felt amazing for the first several days and I want that to come back, it really discourages me that I feel like this and that I may have something to do with vaping. I was really happy about being done with cigs and was looking forward to leaving them behind.

Anyone else feel or experience the symptoms above? If so, what did you do about it, if not, what do you suggest?

I really look forward to hearing from everyone! Thanks so much!

Go to the doctor if you are sick.

Diagnosis of your symptoms on a vaping forum is not a very good idea at all.

Good luck with vaping and welcome to VU :)

Good luck with the flu, it usually gets better with time.

go to the doctor, but the symptoms you describe are alot like what alot of people who are allergic to PG experince...PG allergy and sensitivity is not all that rare among vapers, alot of people are....VG allergy is much rarer, but I do know a guy who is an e-juive vendor who is allergic to VG or so he claims. try O% PG and see if that helps...I know when I lowered my PG levels the effect on my symptoms was that they went away fairly quickly....drink lots of water.

Yeah that's what I am currently doing today. I am working on getting a 100% VG. I am really hoping it has nothing to do with the VG cause I am really excited about not smoking cigs anymore! Vaping was/is the perfect solution. But won't be if I feel like this. Also, an update. I didn't vape at all yesterday and I started to feel great by end of night, felt better this morning. I decided to hit the vape and then almost instantly I got a headache, my throat and sinuses felt like they were swelling. I asked around and apparently it has to go with the fact that I had a puffer when I was a kid, had severe asthma, started to smoke when I was in high school, and the asthma went away, oddly enough.

I plan on it, I just thought this would be a good idea to get information from a community that may have experienced it. Thanks for your comment though.

Oddly enough...I have asthma, and that is one of the main reasons I quit smoking , it aggravated it to the point I could hardly take a breath, with Vaping, it's all but gone

Decades ago, smoking was actually recommended for asthma. Look it up, I kid you not.

Cigarettes as everyone knows are filled with many things, some of them are antihistamines to mask the reactions to smoking and to keep you feeling good.

Many of the things you describe are common when one quits cigarettes, but yeah, go see a doctor. You might be feeling all the same things if you just quit cold turkey.

I had friends that would constantly try to quit in the days before ecigs and they always felt like shit and went back to smoking. Are you seeing a pattern?

The people who manufacture cigarettes WANT you to keep smoking and keep feeling good.

Again, see a doctor.

So here is a funny thing that has happened to me over the last week! I discovered I must of been allergic to PG, I decided to try using 100% VG and everything was fine except for the taste, yuck cotton! Anyways, I discovered this company called MEO or Mother Earth Organics. Apparently they are all organic and focus solely on all natural and organic juice. Apparently the PG is not synthetic and is some sort of natural substance, not sure how this works but I feel great! Anyone know anything about this company?

Sounds like they're using propanediol instead of propylene glycol. Propanediol is derived from corn.

From their website: You will find PG in juices for a few reasons, it is a flavour concentrate carrier, it also provides a “throat hit”, but most importantly is, PG IS THE ANTIMICROBIAL PRESERVATIVE in the liquid keeping your bottle from going bad, so we CHOOSE to keep PG in our liquids.

This too:
In fact, Propylene Glycol in itself is NOT organic, due to being extracted SYNTHETICALLY, however PG is an alcohol from carbs, so in fact does come from organic material.

This is very interesting. I am not sure why this wouldn't affect me like the other juices. If this is the same PG as in other juices. I just don't get it.

So maybe it's the fact that they do something different with the extraction process. Hmmm.

Here's the symptoms of an allergy to PG:
Allergic reaction
Individuals who cannot tolerate propylene glycol experience inflamed dry skin in the facial area, or small red dots on the body. Investigators believe that the incidence of allergic contact dermatitis to propylene glycol may be greater than 2% in patients with eczema or fungal infections, which are very common in countries with lesser sun exposure, and lower than normal vitamin D balances. Therefore, propylene glycol allergy is more common in those countries

Unlikely. They're just mixing max vg with pg carried flavorings.

What do you mean nicotine base? Just that I just had to much nicotine in my system or is there something else to do with nicotine that I am not aware of?

I've had the same symptoms switching to different nicotine bases. The extraction process varies from one manufacturer to the other. Some are cleaner than others. Hell ! I had a vendor send me pesticide once ! Lol Chemicals are used in the extraction process. Very few people are sensitive to them. I'm one of them. Nicotine base is what's used to make e liquid.

Acxtually, it sounds a lot like "quitter's flu" -- a lot more to do with quitting smoking, than the vaping. However, "heavy chest" is generally a problem with too much VG, and going to 100% VG may make it worse.

If you are male, puberty/adolescence is likely why your childhood asthma cleared up -- male hormones are steroids, which are commonly prescribed for asthma. Also, cigarette tobacco contains chemicals which are designed to allow human lungs to tolerate inhaling smoke, and also bronchodilators. I've had adult-onset asthma for about 31 yrs, since I was 24, and my asthma *seemed* a lot better when I smoked, than now as a vaper -- mostly because a) I don't have those masking chemicals anymore, nor the extra bronchodilators, and b) vapor is moist, and high humidity in the summer has always played hell with my asthma.

I would also suggest consulting a doctor, but don't be surprised if he doesn't find much of anything wrong with you, that can't be explained by withdrawal from cigarettes -- nicotine isn't really much help, considering how many chemicals are in cigarette smoke. Also don't be surprised if he gives you a lot of ignorant crap about vaping -- a lot of doctors spout a lot of ridiculous nonsense about them. But if they allow you to abstain from smoking, they're worth any amount of grief your doctor may give you, or whatever little adjustments you may need to make, to make vaping more comfortable.

To clarify.. how long did you use the AIO for ? You mentioned it was too hot.. does the AIO not have an adj ring on the bottom ? Im not sure, my cig-like stick for daily carry is a Kanger e-smart (no adj, but I find it nice, not too hot).
Did your symptoms start when you switched to the x-tank on a mod ?
How much juice were/are you vaping a day ? Everyone is diff of course, but just to compare, I went from pack a day (for 32yrs) directly to the e-smart and about 5mL of 6mg nic a day. No crave to pick up a paper stick at all.

The AIO vape does not have the ring at the bottom. I found that I wanted to hit the vape more often which caused the coil to get pretty hot over extended use that was repeated in a short time. I moved to Eleaf and I am using a Nautlalis X tank.

Sorry Andria, not to sound forward, but how do you know what's happening with the body during someone quitting cigarettes, is this personal experience? Or do you deal with this on a daily basis, a career or something? Let me know! :)

Just my experience from my own quitting/vaping, and reading e-cig forums for 2.5 yrs now and seeing all the symptoms that others report. I know that cigarette smoke contains thousands of chemicals, most of them toxic, and quite a lot of them psychoactive in one way or another, to some degree or another. I've fought other addictions as well, alcohol and drugs, and I know how the brain can send all sorts of perceptions just to try and get what it wants; it can be very difficult to sort out what is a "real" symptom, from a "false flag" sent by a brain not getting what it's accustomed to receiving -- the brain controls the entire body, so can make that body feel anything, and if the brain's cells aren't happy, they're going to do everything they can to try and get back to contented status quo.

Then, there are a lot of different ways that vapor can affect people; some are PG-intolerant, some are VG-intolerant; some are more susceptible to dehydrating effects; some are very sensitive to nicotine, despite many years as a smoker. With all that going on, plus probably a lot of other things that are less common, it really can be challenging to try and figure out just exactly what is happening; is it from quitting smoking? is it from vaping? Is it possibly not really related to either, or could it somehow be peripherally related, but not really *caused* by either?

Quitting smoking is very challenging, no matter how one goes about it. Getting vaping dialed in just right for one's individual needs is also very challenging. And sometimes, with human bodies, "shit happens", and it can be very challenging trying to figure out what it is, what caused it, and how can it be remedied.

So something pretty weird happened to me today. I have been trying to exercise more now that I have turned a new chapter in the life. However, today after a 10 kilometer walk I was feeling pretty light headed and dizzy. Walking 10 km is really not that far and I was doing it no problem while I was smoking. Anywho, the feeling didn't go away, I have been feeling really weird as if my lungs were struggling to expand for air. I deal with anxiety on a daily basis and I am starting to think that quitting smoking has a lot to do with my mentality and physical status. I will be vaping for a week and everything will be going generally smooth and then all of a sudden I feel horrible and really crappy. I then bounce back after a day or two. Anyways I thought I would post this as we were all discussing the different effects and thought we maybe interested in discussing this. I honestly thought I may have pneumonia or something. Before anyone says it I will be heading to the doctors tomorrow to make sure everything is fine. Has anyone experienced anything like this from quitting?

Also! It's almost like there is a massive torso sized chunk of tar and cig crap inside of my lungs and my chest is working it loose. Could the tar and crap in my lungs have something to do with the heavy chest? I have been cig free for 30 days now.

Welcome to the world of quitting smoking... Now you know why it's so hard to do.

Yes.... Could just be smoking withdrawl/healing symptoms. Lung can take a few months to clear.

Could also be sensitivity to PG and/or VG. I get heavy chest feeling from High VG juice, anything over 50/50. Others get same from PG. Have even heard of a few people that cant vape because they are sensitive to BOTH.

Lots of people had problems converting to vaping. WTA contains all the alkaloids as smoking would have. That's only for withdrawal symptoms. Not for heavy chest tho.

You get a sore throat from PG? That's really the only type of 'sensitivity' I've heard of, unless it's a true allergy -- which would bring symptoms like itching all over, or throat closing. But the "heavy chest" feeling is very much an artifact of VG sensitivity. But if you had a true allergy to either, you would know it already; both substances are in a HUGE variety of foods and topical preparations.

In fact, I think WTA actually worsens the heavy chest feeling; since I've been off the WTA, my asthma symptoms have slowly, gradually lessened. Maybe the nitrosamines.

Ok so today I switched to 60% VG and 40% PG, this was coming from a MAX VG juice. The juice was Mother Earth Organics as I assumed being organic it would help with my situation, lowering the PG and all. The MAX VG in MEO worked for awhile and then all of the sudden I was getting a heavy chest and every time I went out for a walk, I noticed that I was getting light headed and was out of breath. This went on for a week or so until I went to the doctors last Friday. Over the weekend it became better as I didn't vape as much, just used some nicotine mouth spray that seemed to do the trick but still didn't help with the mental addiction to smoking something. So I was vaping just half as much, OH and I did switch over to my little AIO vape pen. I was using a Eleaf device with the Nautalis X tank. Tried using the Nautalis X tank again today and started feeling the heavy chest again, it's actually bothering me right now. I did however jumped over to the MAX VG juice for a bit tonight to see if it would give me the heavy chest again. So I would assume that MAX VG does effect me in a negative way. Maybe I should just stick with the AIO pen? Thought?

I guess my feeling is, if one is trying vaping as a means of quitting and/or staying quit of cigarettes, then unless one has tried EVERY CONCEIVABLE variation of vaping, one isn't really giving it a true chance; "feeling" certain of something is not the same as *being* certain of it because it's been tried; it's just a rationalization, which is always a very tempting option where addiction is concerned.

When I first started and I read of the various properties of PG and VG, it sounded to me like VG would not really be suitable for me, because it's so thick and sticky... but I didn't really know for sure until I tried using a much greater percentage of it. Unfortunately, as I had suspected might be the case, it bothered my asthma a great deal, causing a lot of wheezing, tightness, a feeling of something that needed to be coughed up but wouldn't move, and one night, being awakened by one of the worst asthma attacks I've ever suffered -- and that was when I tried 67PG/33VG. I went straight back to 80% Pg the next day, and my symptoms began to ease; since then, I've gone to 85% PG, and my asthma has improved still more.

The only real way to KNOW, is to try it. If you never try it, then all you have is a supposition, a rationalization for returning to smoking. Unfortunately, as noted, rationalization is a BIG problem when dealing with any addiction -- our minds will try to find any excuse possible, to continue doing whatever-it-is.

Thought?

Yes, do stick with the pen for awhile. Your lungs might need time to heal.
