How bad is vaping compared to not smoking/vaping at all?

Not trying to be snarky at all. Should have had my butt handed to me when I was a teenager and started smoking- Why even start, because everyone was doing it? Waste of time, money, health, and while vaping is safer- still not 100% safer than not doing it at all.
Sorry if I may have come off as snarky- not my intention!

Well I have been Vaping (4) years, I began when I applied for a job and they wouldn't hire people who smoked cigarettes. I started on Chantix for around (2) months and started seeing roaches or better said small shadows popping under the sofa and dejavu events I wanted off......

Then I saw someone Vaping, and she seemed to enjoy it and I started looking at it as an alternative to another cigarette....... So the journey to learning began.

I got a physical for the job and after the physician looked at my chest xrays he asked me how long you been smoking ? I said quit (3) months ago after 25 years of menthol cigs smoking. He said good because your lungs are looking very bad !!!!!

Well (2) months ago the Doctor completed a follow up and told me my lungs have healed very stable and now a couple of lighter shades of gray improvement...... Which made me very happy......

I was at a 18mg of nic, but now slowly I have cut down to 12mg and currently at 6mg........

So the story is do you have a pack a day habit ? Are you under so much pressure that you need cigarettes to calm down ? Do you have money to buy smokes or to even start Vaping ?

Vaping it's not cheap..... Believe me.....

Vaping keeps my hands busy, gives me the smoking sensation and the nicotine effect........ And it keeps me busy changing cotton, building coils, and talking to all the people I have met here on Vaping Underground that keep me company every day......

You are an adult, and you need to do things that are beneficial to your health and to not only love yourself, but of your family...

Vaping has helped me, will it help you ? If not necessary don't start, if it will help you not put another smoke in your lungs is it worth it ?

Listen to all our stories, but to be honest if Vaping was available back in 1982 when I graduated from high school...... I would of never smoked because I enjoy Vaping...... And in another couple of years with my next physical I will be able to tell you more...... Cool......

That's if the FDA doesn't screw everything up .!!!!!!!!!!

Be carful everyone .... This might me someone trying to shut down the underground...... FDA has been shutting down forums as well! We all don't like what they are doing but don't let the completely shut down the community. That would be a travesty on its own! Please I beg you!!!!! For the sake of new vapers.... We need for all of us to stick together! I have sent many to join the family here in the community. They have always had great reports. Don't change who you are for some unknowing remedial retard. Admins just ban them and move on to those that want to learn to change their lives!!!!!!

Just trying to keep my secondary family within reach for when I need you all. You never know what is next with them and all they have messes up! You and many others help me learn so much when I was in my mediocre knowledge stage. I just want to keep that same ability for those that see people proving that #1 this is safer #2 there are still great people in the world to welcome less then perfect strangers to give the required knowledge they need to be safe while help teach someone else!

One will never stop progressing in knowledge as long as they are will to try something out of their comfort zone and try doing something they have never done!
When I built my first of many box mods after coming to the underground family I felt unsure that i t would be safe to use.
So what I did was before testing it by putting batteries in it and firing it I walked outside with the intentions of throwing it if I had a problem... Lol I know ...... What good would that have done if it was to start venting or worse. Blow up!
But I felt better away from my babies... Then perfect reason to quit smoking!!!! I love my kids with my sole. So I am very much passionate for saving my life! I can't take back the 27.5 years that I smoked 5.5 packs a day but I can help those headed down that same path!
Please correct me if I am wrong but we as business owners can't tell them that vaping is a safer alternative right..... ? However we can tell them it saves lives!
I did have a great idea though! If allowed we can't tell them but they can walk into a shop and read everyone's life story! Making a ledger called vapers life allowing regulars to have a half page to tell their transition from smoking to vaping and why!
Just a thought! For others to decide without little tobacco hehehehe trying to puss them to keep smoking..

Also! Are we able to make a how to book for people with snapshots step by step on how to build coils and a lot of other things new people might not know? Like what you would see on a build video on the tube? Put it at a desk for them to walk in, look at a few snapshots and build it for themselves. Consider we can't help them fiscally anymore?

Depth and fun .....
Head over to flitetest.com and check out the abundance of free plans. For about $4 worth of materials, you can have an RC aircraft. This is as much fun as one can legally have with their clothes on.
Now onto the topic of vape.
While it boasts a risk reduction of as much as 95% over smoking, it would still be irresponsible to say oh hell yeah man, do it twice on Sunday.
I praise vape. I praise it because after a year and a half, I can leave the house without a pack of smokes or a mod and a bottle of juice.
Many of us, and probably most, use vape as a club to beat the tobacco monkeys off our backs.
Along the way, we often find vape enjoyable, but do understand, we'd rather be entirely untethered.

Take up RC aviation, try electric guitar, hell man, get pokemon go if your motivation is simply to combat boredom.

Find a pop wing or a tek sumo. It's nearly indestructible and will give you all the chances you need to figure it out.
Kids you say?
All the more reason to do it

Like others stated, that risk is unknown

The Royal College of Physicians estimates it is 95% less harmful than actual tobacco.

Note, they estimate, not conclude conclusively.

Actually, they said "AT LEAST 95% less harmful".

Cynthia, my opinion is that if you really want to vape, and you're over 18, then vape. It's your body, your choice, your life. Pretty much everyone does things all day long that carry some degree of risk, but we don't stop doing them, unless/until that risk becomes actually life-threatening and nearly-certain -- driving cars comes to mind. Most of us DON'T drive them at twice the posted speed limit, because not only would we face pricey tickets, we would endanger ourselves and all other drivers past any sane boundaries -- but many if not all of us DO drive at 5-10-20 MPH more than posted limits; why? Because we can; because we're in a hurry; because some jurisdictions set them purposely low just to provide cashflow. Is it risky? Sure it is; driving a car at all is risky. Getting out of bed in the morning is risky, but most of us manage. And then of course, there's kitchen knives, and hot stoves. We could probably all make-do with sporks and microwaves, but... why?

As for nicotine... that too, would be up to you. I would suggest a very low level, 3mg or less, because "nicotine naive" bodies WILL respond to nicotine with nausea, vomiting, and other unpleasant symptoms, BUT, nicotine is a very useful substance for some people with certain disturbances, such as anxiety, depression, ADD/ADHD, and many, many others -- it may even prevent or minimize dementia (Alzheimers or geriatic) and Parkinson's Disease. If you feel a need for something to aid or diminish or prevent those types of problems but don't want to go the pharmaceutical route because those meds are too expensive, dangerous, etc, then nicotine might be "just what the doctor ordered." Yes, nicotine can be very toxic, if consumed in high doses, or for small life-forms like pets and children and insects (it's a very effective pesticide!)... but adults, using "standard vaping doses", are not really at any particular risk from nicotine; nicotine by itself, divorced from all the many dangerous chemicals in cigarette smoke, is not even terribly dependence-producing; no more than caffeine is, and perhaps even less.

It seems like you are bored and looking for a hobby. You don't have to vape. Are you good with your hands? Are you artistic? Maybe in the future if you find yourself wanting to smoke for whatever reason, then it's time to pick up vaping and any one of us could help you get started. In the meantime if vaping fascinates you like it does me,you can read about mods and atomizers and how they are built and assembled. I don't want to shun you,I just want to be honest and realistic with you. THANKS for showing a interest in our lifestyle-hobby.

I risk getting run over by a car to go buy a packet of cheetos too, it's just not something I worry about.

I see. I'm back at square 0 then. :(
I never thought about it,but you could definitely get run over on your way to the vape shop too.

I am not by any means new to vaping! I so far have built 54+ mods including lipo mods, tube & box.
Until these regulations I was in mid motion to mass production of 9 mixes! Had it all lined up with my state paperwork! Rented a storefront with massive traffic ! Estimated constant traffic of 77k cars in a day. Right here in hillbilly heaven Martinsburg W.V.! Please don't misunderstand me! I truly have no need for a hobby! I was a 27.5 year smoker 5 packs a day that finally had enough of giving my away! Vaping and mixing 5 years now! I personally own more diy stuff i can open several shops! I have more 4oz flavors then 90% of vape shops around my state ... Not county. That's all I feel I should say in deal of being disrespectful.
Sorry if I offended anyone

You know.. if you want to get involved in vaping, it doesn't necessarily mean you have to vape yourself.

It would certainly be tempting, and "playing with fire" in a sense. But, someone could create a whole business/hobby out of making everything from coils to mods.

I find it enjoyable even without the actual act of vaping, and sometimes that disconnect from the industry itself can yield fantastic innovations.

There are quite a few connected industries that could be branched into as well, like flashlights.

All of it is connected through electronics, so if you have a strong interest in these things, there are some great, free educational resources from simple Google to free courses from MIT.

Wallethub is strictly Clickbait

They spam my business email account with ridiculous phony reports.
This is an article from reddit and I get no spam from it, very good article would it be better to copy the article instead of the link- pretty long article?

Just because the vaping blog on Wallethub is news vapers support, we should be very leery of citing dubious sources - even when they are correct in this instance.

I am letting everyone know that Wallethub is Clickbait - it doesn't matter where it was published, Wallethub is clickbait. Being on Reddit does not improve it's credibility.

Several times Wallethub has included my hometown in their "rankings" and were 100% wrong and their conclusions poorly researched- they claimed at one time that Valdez Alaska was the seventh cheapest town in the US to maintain a home - I could go on and on about how wrong that is.

The "articles" and "studies" they publish are designed to encourage you to go to their website. The content may or may not be factual. While this Wallethub blog supports our side, the info is available on non-clickbait sites.

Here is a small snapshot of Wallethub spam from my deleted files on gmail.

I just want people to know that Wallethub often spreads gross disinformation on other topics.

They spam me because I run a website about my town and they think I'm stupid enough to link their website with their often-dubious "research"

A little off topic but please help: Ok so I quit smoking about 3-4 months ago, and I started vaping with an Ego AIO for a month or so no problems...so I wanted to move up and bought a target pro 75W mod and have been vaping 70/30 vg/pg. About 5 weeks ago I came down with bronchitis like ive never had before, my lungs felt heavy and they ached on top of the what feels like a rock in your chest that you cant get out. Went to the Dr went through a round of antibiotics, an inhaler and a breathing treatment which now (week 5) is better but not gone. I am realy stumped because I enjoy vaping much more than I did cigarettes, but cant hardly touch it now because ive been sick and im worried that vaping caused it, because anytime I try to after 1 draw I get that heavy feeling and my chest feels tight again....I mean I guess I should just put it down until this passes, but ive never had anything like this linger on this long...could it be the flavor of juice? (The Dude by Alpha Vapes 6mg) or something with the VG/PG but never had bothered me before...only thing I can attribute it to is one night not long before I got sick I chain vaped while drinking and would say that's the most I have vaped in one day but I see guys and girls vape like that all day on 200W mods...anyone have any similar issues...signed one frustrated vapesta

I stopped using TC on ni80 (2) weeks ago but feeling better and pain is gone....... I don't know if it's psychological or if it was really the ni80 on TC doing it.....

Welcome and sorry that you have been ill! Glad that you are under a Dr's care. I have never experienced anything like that since vaping- but I used to get bronchitis so bad when I was a cigarette smoker and would take months to clear up. Maybe another trip to the Dr is in order, just to make sure there is still no infection and that you are on the mend.

Glad you are feeling better Manny! I do not vape in TC at all- to many seem to think it is not safe, so I vape in wattage w/ kanthal coils. I have some Ni coils that came with some of my tanks but I have never tried them for fear that I would do something wrong.

Sounds a bit like an intolerance to VG to me; if I vape more than about 15% VG, it feels like a hairball or something in my chest that i can't cough up no matter how hard I try. Using 70% VG, I'd be in the emergency room after about 3 hits. Although Pg intolerance is more common, it's not at all uncommon to be intolerant to VG, and it does cause symptoms like those you describe -- heaviness, choked-feeling, can't cough it up.

Unfortunately, the whole damn industry has gone apeshit for VG, so if you want high PG, you may have to start making your own -- needing 85% PG as i do, that's just one reason why I'm forced to DIY my ejuice.

We see a lot of bucket-listers during the summer, lol
Thats for sure- I wouldn't want to be there during winter- even though we can get some brutal winter weather here in Ny- I live between Buffalo and Syracuse, right on the Lake Ontario shore and we get slammed with lake effect snow and cold in the winter, nothing compares to Alaska!
There have been so many TV shows like Deadliest Catch, Gold Rush and others, the views and nature of Alaska are just stunning!.
