When I make a mix at first the flavour is 'okay' then I steep it and it goes muted, and if I add to much concentrate I get a chemical taste.

Usually use high vg (80/20) and 3-6mg VG Nic.

I always go by the recommended steep times too, from the same website.

Thanks, Jamie.

Can you tell us the brand used and percentages? Over-flavoring can totally mute the taste, too.

It's from vapemate, legit just says VM on the bottle.

I've tried 5%-20%.

It's starting to really annoy me because I've spent so much in something I'm not benefiting from :/

Oh that's right, you're not in the States. Do you know what brands might be available to you, where you are? You might even ask some of the people in this thread, what they use, or if they know much about that brand.

Thank you, I have asked a few people on your post & around on sites. It seems chefsvapour is the best.

What do you recommend for me to do I'm on the verge of giving up:/

DON'T. Really, don't. I really do know the frustration that goes along with it. If you think it might be the quality of the ones that you have to work with, then see what you can do about getting other brands a little at a time.

If you come up with even just a couple things that are suitable, you're ahead of the game. Do you know at what % the ones you've worked with tasted best in just a single mix? Take notes on that for each one. Once you find that base number, play around with adding another flavor to it, that would compliment it, but not in an equal amount, just a bit smaller.

Even vaping unflavored keeps some very happy. Not me, I want flavor, LOL.

Brands you might find easily, could be FlavourArt, and maybe Inawera. Even TFA, (the Flavor Apprentice) is one that I see mentioned in the UK. Each of those brands make some VERY good flavorings. But, not knowing anything about the ones you do have, it's hard for me to pin point what may specifically help.

The best thing I can think of is to make small samples of single flavors, starting with a lower percentage, taste it, leave it overnight to calm, taste it again. Too weak? Add a touch more. Take notes til you find the spot you like. Easier to add to, than have to dilute. Patience is the tough part starting out. It certainly was for me.

Try out recipes. Doing that SAVED me, and it taught me about flavoring.

If you haven't asked about that brand, do so. They might be able to help you narrow it down.

That has helped me a lot man, I will take that into consideration, and keep perusing this.

I just can't get my head around how can ejuice from shops stay in the shelf for ages? Wouldn't they all taste different depending on when they was made.

When I buy concentrates should I go by the recommended % & steep times?

Thanks, Jamie.

Go by how they taste to YOU. Some of the brands I use are recommended at 15 - 20%. If I used them at that, I'd gag. Everyone tastes flavors differently. What might be weak to me, is actually quite strong to others. We're all very different in that aspect. If it tastes good to you, after it's had time to rest, then that's the percentage you use for YOU. Really, with most of the flavorings I use, the average is 2% flavor. The max I've used is 10%, in a brand that is very well known to be weak, lol.

Don't give up. Deep breath, start again :)

That seems pretty understandable man, I'll let you know how I get on if it all goes well fingers crossed lol, just need to have that spark to keep me going and realise I don't completely suck at it.

Thank you very much man!

You too, huh? Yep, my mom always said to me, "you're such a gemini!!" when I was growing up. I was moody, LOL. Aw hell, I still am.

And yes, I DO want to hear how things go for you. I promise, with patience and diligence, you WILL get there. We all had help.

Never Give UP!

Ok maybe you could try this; Remember that even if you use a lot of flavoring, once steeped the flavor will change. But for what I am reading on your post's your problem might be a different one.

Try this, if you feel that 20% flavoring is too strong then use the quantity that you feel most comfortable with. What you will change is the PG/VG ratio. Since you said that you like 80 VG that might be the problem. I have found that keeping a good flavor with high VG takes patience and practice. I know that's what you want and eventually you'll get there. But try a few batches of 70 VG and 30 PG.

Remember that the PG carries the flavor a lot better than VG. Another thing that you have to consider is that the nic naturally mutes flavor. That's why I always recommend that when someone is attempting to mix an e-juice with high VG and a toned down flavor PG nic is better. Because since the nic tones down the flavor and the VG does it too at least you counteract some of the nic toning down with the PG.

Anyway change to the 70 VG 30 PG and start from there. You'll see that you will be making your 80 20 sooner than you think.
