Good morning ya'll.

'On awakening let us think about the twenty-four hours ahead. We consider our plans for the day. Before we begin, we ask God to direct our thinking, especially asking that it be divorced from self-pity, dishonest or self-seeking motives. Under these conditions we can employ our mental faculties with assurance for after all God gave us brains to use. Or thought-life will be placed on a much higher plane when our thinking is cleared of wrong motives.'

It is easy to let up on the spiritual program of action and rest on our laurels. We are headed for trouble if we do, for alcohol is a subtle foe. We are not cured of alcoholism. What we really have is a daily reprieve contingent on the maintenance of our spiritual condition. Every day is a day when we must carry the vision of God's will into all of our activities. "How can I best serve Thee - Thy will (not mine) be done." These are thoughts which must go with us constantly. We can exercise our will power along this line all we wish. It is the proper use of the will.

This is a good thing to remember. I lost my mom last month, despite a lot of very intense prayer that she just HAD to survive. Apparently her body and The Powers That Be had other ideas, and that was a very hard pill for me to swallow. I don't go to meetings much anymore, I pretty much carry a 24/7 meeting around in my head, but I had to go to a meeting after her death, it was so very hard to accept, and of course that idiot addict in my head begging for chemical numbness and hang the consequences. I did go to the meeting, and put that idiot back in its cage. It still rattles the bars now and then, but mostly leaves me alone. So I'm still on schedule for 25 yrs sobriety, next August.

One Day at a Time.

New member; just found this thread. I haven't read all of it yet, but I will.

I have 36 years of continuous sobriety from drugs and alcohol. I started out at age 26, a young man, and I am now at the other end approaching old age. I've had a wonderful life in sobriety, with many dear recovering friends and acquaintances. I am active in AA and I attend several meetings a week, as I have from the beginning. Used to attend NA too but it's been awhile for that. Local NA has some control freaks that feel the need to moderate every thing that is said in their meetings. 'S ok, there's plenty of room for recovery around here.
