Smok TFV8 Baby Beast Quad coil trouble

Hey guys, I'm obviously new to this forum. I'm having some trouble with a new set up. I recently got the Smok alien kit and I'm using the quad coil that comes with the kit (0.15 Ω). My problem is that I'm getting a lot of dry hits. I've had the coil in for about 24 hours, I primed it with juice on the cotton before installing it and I started at 10 watts, increased 5 watts every 5 hits until I got up to about 60 watts. Smok says the coil is best from 50 - 110 watts so this should be fine. After the first tank, I'm getting a slight dry taste in my puffs. I wouldn't call it a true dry hit because I'm still getting a tiny bit of flavor but the dry taste is certainly there. If I do a short puff it isn't as bad but the other problem is that I'm having to pull really hard as if there is really bad air flow, but there is no blockage and everything is screwed in very tight. I'm not sure what is wrong here but I wanted to get a tank that had great flavor and clouds and every review I've seen about this has stated this is a great tank. I've been looking through the forum for a similar issue and I've found some similar but none with this tank and coil including the air flow I mentioned. If there is one please redirect me.
Also, the only juice I've used is Reign by Cloud9. I believe it is 80/20.

I have been vaping for a while and I can be a bit of a chain vaper so this is quite frustrating for me. If anyone has any insight on this or any advice on how to fix the issue I would be VERY grateful. Thanks.

are you sure your airflow is all the way open? 60 watts should be fine but you can try a lower wattage and see what you get

Yes the airflow was all the way open. I read some reviews stating that this tank should have very good airflow also so that is why it's quite confusing. I did turn the wattage down to about 30 watts and it was still fairly dry and it was slowly getting worse. Because of that, I figured the cotton was probably toasted and the coil was bad. Luckily I did buy some extra coils with the tank so I had some on hand and I put a new on in. I made sure to prime it very well and take some dry pulls without firing. I also read that some people who have struggled with getting dry hits have taken a needle and poked very small holes in the cotton on the outside of the coil and kind of move it around to make sure its not packed to tightly to help it wick better which should in turn reduce dry hits. So far on this new coil I've taken 40 puffs and I'm up to 35 watts and I've had no dry hits and the airflow has been MUCH better. I think that I've concluded the coil was bad and something must have been obstructing the airflow.
One of the reasons I came here for help was that my friend got, literally, the exact same set up at the same time I did and he had this same problem right before I did. That made me think there wasn't anything wrong with the coil, but I think that may be the case.

I've heard where some people poke a couple holes in their cotton with a needle. They say it helps, but I have no idea if its accurate as I have yet to purchase my own Alien/Baby Beast kit. I'm ordering it on Wednesday... so excited!

The "needle trick" was a prerequisite for the square Kanger coils, but it works on other tightly packed pre-made coils. Too bad you cant get the Alien tonight. I saw it for $36.00 on eciggity and the full kit on Vapenw for 51.00( I got the gold one). Ordered it on Thursday, and it came today. Priming the T8 coil right now as I type. Device seems pretty sweet, and the screen looks even better in person.

You could do this to make it wick faster as well. The tfv8 baby doesn't wick that fast like a tfv8 would

Thank you, I'm compiling as much knowledge as possible by watching reviews and reading as many threads as possible to make sure I won't screw anything up too badly. This is the first time in my three and a half years as a vaper I've bought anything that's the "in thing"!!! Kudos to me for having the cash on hand to be able to put in the account on time!!! :D

Nice! Don't always worry about the it thing though. Hype doesn't always make a great vape plus if whatever you have makes you happy then it's good enough

One of the coils that comes with the tank is what Smok calls an Octuple Coil or T8, the coil wrap is doubled though it looks like 4 coils. The other coil is a dual coil, double wrapped called Q2 but looks like a single coil. No big deal just clarifying their nomenclature for conversation sake..
I have several BB and like them a lot but find Smok exaggerates their wattage range substantially, perhaps as much as 30%.
Also, though I like high VG liquids, I find these best suited for something like 65vg/35pg as a max and probably not the best set-up for chain vaping, just my experience, ymmv.

the T8 is 4 chambers each with a paralell dual coil in them
the Q2 is a single chamber that has 4 parallel coils in them

The Q2 in my opinion is the best so far for me for flavor and air flow. I did do the "pin hole method" as I was getting an average of only 3-4 days before huge taste dimishish and burnt taste. I actually used a syringe needle to put one hole on each of the 4 juice slots and it is working great! I don't think you could use this method on the quadruple, sextuple or octuple coils since they are more tightly packed in there. Time will tell how long this coil lasts but so far is wicking much better, flavor is better and air flow improved
