How much does wattage level matter for new vapers?

i gave a friend of mine who's really cheap my old vaping gear so,she could try vaping. It was an Evic VT and a Vaporesso Gemini with a couple of Kanthal 0.9 atomizers.

The thing is, when I start vaping it was a Kanger Protank with like 1.6 ohm atomizers that I vaped at around 12 watts.

I've got her set up on 0.9 ohm atomizers I told her to try vaping around 32.5 watts.

She had to leave before I could finish showing her everything and she was having trouble inhaling without coughing before she left.

Now I'm wondering, is 32.5 watts just too much for a new vaper?

I don't think it's simply a matter of wattage. Googling the Gemini, it appears to be an RTA that is suitable for direct lung vaping and not mouth to lung like most new vapers start off with. You might be able to build a set of coils that run over an ohm for it and close the airflow down to make it more MTL friendly, but I'm not sure if this RTA will deliver a good MTL experience. Also, you made no mention of what type juice (PG/VG ratio and nic level) she was using. All of these factors can have an impact on how harsh it can be to inhale for a new vaper.

But I see what you're saying about the mouth to lung stuff.. And I remember that now. The wide boar on the drip tip makes it hard for her to do a mouth to lung...

But the wattage she really don't have much to do with it for new vapers?

It's start to look like I didn't save her money on a new tank, but I did save her money on a mod.

reccomended wattage range 20 - 35 watt so have her start of at the lower end and a small bore driptip

Watts = Heat so the higher the wattage the warmer your coils get. Always start low and work your way up. You can always increase wattage but you can't unburn a coil. lol.

Mouth to lung usually uses a lower wattage, low air flow, smaller drip tip and higher resistance coils. (they heat slower). You kind of have to do a balancing act to get the vape you want. For example, if you want M2L but more vapor, you increase the power a little and a bit more airflow until you find the sweet spot you like. M2L you want a lower airflow, but you don't want to cook your coil so you use lower wattage, You increase the wattage to get more vapor but you have to counter the heat with airflow. You probably have 15w to play with. I generally M2L between 25-33w. on a kanger toptank mini with the RBA coil that came installed. (0.53 ohm I believe)

Get your friend to lower the airflow and wattage, and the smaller drip tip will help. Keep lowering the wattage until she is happy with the vape.

Remember.. Vaping is not smoking, so vapor is different from smoke. You have to get used to it, just like you did when you first started inhaling cigarettes.
Also keep in mind, higher PG = more throat hit, higher VG = smoother vape.
