He asked in another thread if I received any government checks. I told him I'm a disabled vet. This was his response.

I wouldn't expect a vet to act like a school aged kid...Hey everyone look what this person said, even though I know 99.9% of the people are going to be outraged, let me create a thread and quote someone, maybe in context, but if that was the case why did you fail to say you ended the message with "you got a problem with that?"
That makes it sound like things were already heating up by the time of that post, but I could be totally wrong about that

Yes, you are 100% entitled to those government benefits, but I think you already knew that

I have the utmost respect for anyone who serves or has served! THANK YOU!!
And, IMHO anyone that thinks otherwise is a moron.

I am a disabled combat vet. We signed a fucking dotted line, we fought for people's freedom of speech whether it be bashing us or burning flags. You need to calm the fuck down whoever the OP is. You need to learn to take people's words with a grain of salt, some people like rustling jimmies. Just judging from your lunatic ranting, I am pretty sure you where a POG that never stepped foot outside the wire or had a firefight. I might be wrong but I am pretty sure I am right. Shit 99% of the modern vets only danger is the DFAC being out of ice cream or not having French fries for dinner.

Lastly, non-drafted vets need to quit feeling so fucking entitled you're acting like a bunch of libcucks. I get it you think you deserve the world on a silver platter but we signed up for it fruity. We volunteered to be the Sheepdogs that kill the wolves going for our sheep. So show some fucking bearing and carry on like a civilized person instead of acting like a whiny bitch.

Bullshit about Vet's being self entitled and bullshit to 99% of modern vets only danger is the ice cream unless you were in the Air Force, you an AF Vet?

I suggest you get the context of why the OP was made.

I was assigned to other services my entire career if that lets in on what I did....I am also PMC right now hopefully that clarifies and gives you a warm fuzzy sir. Funny you mention the AF like it is some type of pussy branch. They have the most diverse special forces of all the branches but hey wtf do I know since I am just an AF vet right? JTAC/TACP/PJ/SOWT all get assigned to rangers, SOF, seal, STS units. We had to go through our rigorous training then go through the other branches but hey I'm just some pussy AF vet ayyyyy.

I did read it, and he needs to grow some thicker skin. My opinion is my own and I stand firm on it. As of recently with all the flag stomping, flag burning, people speaking out about BS people just need to learn to let it glide off their back like water as we are in America and they have a freedom of speech. I just think its a waste of time to get into pissing matches. It is the same idea as talking politics people WILL NOT change the way they think regardless of the facts.

When was the last time you deployed sir? You don't seem to understand how the deployments work this day and age. SOF types, PMCs and some select groups leave the base. The rest sit inside the wire has been that way for nearly 10 years now. A) it reduces casualties B) lets us hit stuff easier without having to play babysitter to those "AF" types you mentioned...

They served Iced Cream at the DFAC? Where? I missed it!!
I think when I rolled through Arifjan and Ali Al Saleem to Afghan they had ice cream machines, candy bars and junk out. You could definitely tell the ones that indulged as they had that penguin walk about them in the heat of the day.

He wasn't using his status as a crutch, some ignorant self entitled fuck believes Vet's are leeches, that's what he called him out on.

As for flag burning and what not, yes I agree. If someone feels that that is the way to protest Government I support it and constantly speak out against ignorant self entitled pricks who wrap themselves around the flag.

But yeah, getting in pissing contests is useless but at the same time you need to call the ignorant assholes out, say your piece then move on.

VA is a whole different ball of wax right now brother. I can see how some people see vets as leeching due to the bad apples, same shit with welfare. I have seen my shit go through a board and I got low ratings, where as I have seen NUMEROUS youngins' get 100% that have never deployed and concoct some military induced mental stress/panic attacks/PTSD sob story. But alas at least Nam' vets are finally getting their Agent Orange diagnosed only took 40+ fucking years. So with that time frame all the desert storm/Iraqi Freedom vets might start seeing burn pit money in 2050 ;)

gulf war shit I'm pretty convinced it was mostly due to the experimental drugs they pumped into us. Like the Anthrax Vaccine that had never been used on humans before. I remember my ass burning after getting that and most of us pissed in our bedding (took them till well into winter to get sleeping bags to us) that night due to it. Then the P-Tab's, again never used on humans before. Then come to find out P-Tabs was just a mild dose of nerve agent, theory was to build up our immunity to Nerve Agents. If you look at the symptoms of Nerve Agent poisoning it pretty much match's Gulf War syndrome.

Clinton era survivor here, post gulf war 1.
I saw the aftermath, tendons, ligaments nerve fiber, and connective tissues basically hardening and breaking or the body attacking it.
Several friends going from alpha male ass kickers to dissolving desiccated husks in short order. passing it to their wives and children.

Got a friend who's son is the classic DU birth defect. From this current shit.

Yeah I have some effects but still relatively healthy. I haven't filed any claims cause the VA scares the shit out of me.

I deployed to Desert Shield/Storm with the 82nd as NBCNCO and am pretty convinced the nerve agent pre-treatment pills really messed with people but I advised against taking them but a few did and they were messed up....
Spending multiple OEF deployments with burn pits scaredme more...

Yep, gotta love our government who likes to use Service Members as Guinea Pigs then deny any responsibility for their actions. Look at the Atomic Vet's, Agent Orange, now Gulf War Syndrome with the P-Tabs, etc., etc.

Meh.

I don't really give a fuck about personal insults. I made that clear a couple posts down from the OP. I could have started hundreds of threads whining about someone insulting me. But I'm often the one doing some insulting myself. Not a big deal.

I do care when when someone claims that veteran benefits are a free government handout. Especially from a fuck that never served and goes on to imply that his paying tax is somehow is a greater sacrifice than my or any other veterans health/life. This thread was started to discuss that, not some personal attacks by a libtard.

But, feel free to defend the libtards. I think you earned your benefits and nothing was given to you for free. I'll stick with my fellow vets.

A bunch of us from my unit had a 25 year reunion a bit over a year ago. 90% are fucked up.

Taking the pills was not optional for us. They actually made us take them in formation. That and we were exposed to low level sarin.

I was lucky they took my advice because at the time I was a PFC with about a little over a year in... so they gave us the option... after I pointed out that they weren't FDA certified AND that the , FDA and DOD would probably deny all culpability, most opted against taking it. I only keep in touch with one person and they're fucked...

I come from a military family. My parents have always said that if they get sick i better not dare take them to a VA. Father served 23 years, he never asked for a military discount. Once he did get a free carwash on veterans day though haha. I appreciate everyones service, i always wanted to serve but medical conditions have kept me out.

Ive never gone to a veterans day thing. I live next to a few of my battle buddies and its weird they always go out and ask if i want free food.
I feel like if i should get appreciated it shouldn't be just on one day.
Am i the only one that feels weird about that?

Yep and I always get uncomfortable when ever I hear the "Thank you for your service". I don't make an issue or even say anything about it, it just makes me uncomfortable.

lol. libtards/libcucks, only thing they're good for is the sweet refreshing tear drop ice tea they've been providing since November and it will be in stock for the next 8 years.

I used to get spun up on what people say but after awhile I just stopped because the ones talking shit are some fat worthless fuck sitting in his basement rubbing one out to the jimmys he's rustling. Yes he is wrong but don't give him another platform to continue his bullshit spewing.

He asked in another thread if I received any government checks. I told him I'm a disabled vet. This was his response.

I wish he could say that to my face.

I don't know about the rest of you fellow veterans, or even the vast majority of non veterans, but I don't think we are getting anything "free" from the government. I think I earned it. In fact, I'd give every penny back in exchange to have my health back.

How many people think of disabled vets as "takers" getting "free stuff" from the government?

Ugh didn't mean to quote without comment on the last one. (If there is a way to delete it, anyone please let me know) but that user has no idea, i completely agree with giving the money back for our health. At the same time our services for the freedoms everyone enjoys did not cost our lives so I am truly greatful. I have a sister that user can be made at. She lives off of the goverment when she is perfectly of getting a job. People perfectly capable of working that dont are the entitled ones whom are the drain on the economy. I love her but there is nothing i can do. I have tried and the only response she gives is 'they will take away my SSI'. For a 28 year old she souldnt be getting it in the first place. Even though i have been rated at 70% i still work my ass off in every way possible. I guess my point is a little education about the true cost could go a long way.

Alittle bit of "get off your arse" will get you a long way. What I never figured out was, If you sit on your butt and collect benefits, you'll never make any more or go any farter in life then the handout.

Call me greedy but I have expensive habits that I couldn't afford on benefits.

PS I'm talking about healthy, able bodied folks who wont look for a job.

Wow! I too am a disabled vet and am currently living at a veterans gpd program facility where I have access to help for treating my PTSD and other health issues stemming from my many years of service to my country as a proud member of the United States Army.

As to the negative comments I say fuck em and soldier on. Has he every been fired upon? Has he ever had to fire upon others? Has he seen his comrades fall in combat?

The answer to all is no, which means he has no fucking idea what he is talking about
He is absolutely ignorant and a total fool. Congratulations on being a maker sir, while you where making we were fighting for your freedom to do so. If you wish to fight that point, let's each grab an m4 and head to the sandbox and see what happens!

Thank you for your service brother, stay strong and soldier on. Things get better and we can put our lives back together with the help of the caring folks at the VA.

https://fivethirtyeight.com/datalab/what-percentage-of-americans-have-served-in-the-military/

With only about 7 percent of the population having ever actually served in the military, we are a very small group. If all you have ever known in your life is Momma's and Daddies house, then an apartment or house and a 9a-5p M-F gig, you would have no conception of what its like doing things lik e Combat duty in the sand box or serving on a destroyer pulling radar picket duty. (Speed bump is what most picket ships are referred too on the Carrier )

Also consider that an Army or Marine member serving on or behind the front lines of a wasteland 3000 miles away from home is going to have a different experience then an Airman schlepping 500 pounders or fixing fighter bombers.... MY "Combat experience " was a 3 mile box off the coast of Beruit. The jets were real and the missiles were good and true. Thank you Ratheon Marine for true radars and The workers at General Dynamics for good missiles.

But truth be known, only 3 months of my life were spent there and it wasnt the most dangerous part of my Naval Adventure. As flagship on STANAVFORLANT we got caught in a North Sea Squall leaving Scotland on our way to Iceland. The 40 year old hull had to float up the face of then down the back of 60 foot swells. We were taking blue water on the bridge and listened to our screws (propellers) slap air for 3 days not being able to make more then 6 knots and left almost 42 million dollars worth of antenna's, wave guides SONAR dome and other assorted ships fitments there. How do you explain to a front line grunt what that felt like?

So, if we cant agree and compliment each other for service that only 7% of the country has "participated" in, how do we expect the other 93% to have so much as a clue as to what our reality was during our time in?

I couldn't agree more! All members of any service deserve the same utmost respect and admiration.

I have the pleasure of living with 96 veterans from all branches of service and periods as far back as vietnam. Not a day goes by that I don't learn something from one of them, even the Marines! Lol.

But seriously, thank you for your service! I can honestly say I would have shit my pants and been throwing up everwhere if I had been on that ship!

It's ppl like that way I don't tell anyone I'm a disabled vet. They look at you and say you look fine to me, or say some other dumb shit. It's only the ones who have never served that say this shit. Spoiled ass kids these days.
The new generation expects disabled veterans to be wheelchair bound or missing limbs. They also stereotype people with PTSD will act out like Rambo, when in reality PTSD is self destructive behavior from survivors guilt and you really don't give a fuck anymore until you come to terms with what happened and coping with triggers. But hey they accept the 350lb person that can't control their eating as being handicapped riding around in the grocery store on the scooter knocking chips ahoys and twinkies into their scooter cart thingy with a cane. I guess my rant just boils down to a double standard with disabled veterans and non veterans disabled people in the eyes of society; with the Veterans they want see some cool scars for their tax dollars otherwise they think we are bullshitting them for money.

I myself am a dual service vet. Started as a Marine (comm.) then, when being denied a cross train, I left the Corps and became an Air Force crash rescue firefighter......give the Air Force some slack will ya? Even not counting the special ops (like cct, with the highest wash out rate of any sec ops of any service), some jobs are inherently dangerous in and of themselves. And about the service members who never had to cross the wire....well, there is plenty of danger there as well. I came the closest to dying, not in Baghdad, but ON BASE (Ballad air base, OIF '03), when an rpg hit the roof over my head...only reason I am here today is the LN's were too stupid to know the difference between a live round and training round. But they sometimes got it right. We had to deal with mortars and rockets every day, to varying degree (found out our tent city was directly hit just weeks after I left theater). Sure, that was towards the beginning of OIF, and things have changed dramatically (found out from another vet who served the same location many years later that they had fast food restaurants, coffee shops etc :p ), but they still had valid experiences that a civilian who never served would not understand.

edit: sec ops was supposed to read spec ops.....fingers too fast I guess

Vets should be taken care of for life . They risked their lives many return without limbs , burnt , crippled many scars not seen they are owed our respect and care .

I'm an Army veteran from so long ago that the recruiting pitch was along the lines of "show up Tuesday or go to jail." I estimate that I spent 40 minutes total, in two separated full-time Army stints, in contact with armed enemies. One small wound, not disabling. Lots of education in electronics (MOS 33s). And nowadays, in my 60s, I try not to overuse the VA health system because I have Medicare as an alternative, and the young guys don't -- and believe me, some of them are in rough shape and need a lot of care. (And no, not all wounds are visible.)

There's a sign at the Bay Pines VA hospital (St. Pete FL) that says something like "Here is where you see the true cost of war." True. And fellow vets can attest to the fact that you meet more amputees at the VA hospital than anywhere else. It's humbling to be getting physical therapy for an arthritic shoulder and the guy next to you is learning how to walk on his new prosthetic leg.

One thing about the VA: my late father-in-law, who was black (I'm white) and a WW2 Navy guy, always said the VA was the only place you could meet people worth knowing in a doc's waiting room -- and the the only place you and some others might end up going out for a drink afterwards.

Yes, I vape. In my home office but not the rest of the house. At the VA I only vape in smoking areas. Why cause conflict? I'm down to hardly any or no nicotine depending on mood, so no urgency. A pleasure, not an addiction like cigarettes were for over 40 years.
