It's been quiet do u have any updates for us?
Hey-

I should've let y'all know I've been concentrating on a couple stands that are overdue... Scary expensive wood, so I'm being very deliberate (slow!). The Christmas season put our house in full "host" mode. We're Grand Central Station this year - we have all the kids home, grandkids, etc... Not much to report unfortunately.

Here's a quick pic of the blocks I mentioned:

Still haven't had the time to properly shoot them.

I have another friend that wants to help with soldering & assembly (not local), so we'll see how that goes. I've gotten my iron out and have been practicing as well.

I plan to finish the two large holders by year's end, then back on the Mods!

Hope everyone has an awesome Holiday Season & New Year! See ya soon!

Hi Rick, we would love to see the video, but at least I can not see it, I get a "This video is private" message.

You can make my mod out of that black and gold piece.

Yea - some sweet blanks there. Another "little" project I have is making a motorized turntable for photography. I'm still waiting on a couple parts. Should be a great way to show a complete view of a blank or a finished Mod - a quick 360 degree rotation video.

For our Second Amendment Fans, the "Skull" Faceplate

SKULL FACEPLATE DNA75 ASSY
Still need to order plastic first run parts to check fit, finish and resolution (3D Printed).

Not much luck working in the shop the last few days - H O T - 106 today, 104 yesterday...

Ready to clear coat the Rosewood Mod II Proto. Hope to take it with me on Wednesday when Jim & I will assemble the first proto - a Mod I. Might get started on the second one too.

More news and pics as they happen!

Rick
Yeah I like this what are the pricing going to be like?

Well, not the post I was hoping to make ... Actually, not the last few days I wanted - shortly after making the previous video, I had a flare up of my med condition and ended up in the hospital - got home earlier today, it's still going to take a couple days before I'm back to vertical.

I was hoping to have soldered on one of the first Mods, and maybe have gotten it assembled. Well, spent the last couple days in a morphine haze...

I'll try for a meaningful update on Monday -

I haven't gotten an acceptable 3D print of the pieces yet. But, if I can get a good SS 3D print and get it Cerakoted - It'll probably be a +20.00 faceplate option. Mods will run from about $170 on up.

Hooe you get to feeling better soon.

Seriously. What do I have to do to reserve the mod that's coming out of that black and gold blank? The one lying flat? PM me.

Hey everyone,

Well - I missed making a post Monday... Tuesday... Damn it! This getting old shit really sucks! :blech:

Just as I was getting back into the swing of things, I got hurt and am just now feeling better - not 100% yet, but better. I pushed a little too hard earlier today (feeling better), and overdid it - gonna bite the bullet and ease through the rest of the week (I hate being idle).

I have all the parts for the first two Mods - and am itching to work on them!

Look for a post in a couple or few days -

Hey everyone-

Well, I've not been too idle since last week... Still hurting some (probably shouldn't be flopping around on an MX motorcycle still) from the activities of the previous weeks.

I'm still finishing up the building of two large display stands going to Japan & Saipan. I need to continue with modelling the new Mod III Squonker body before moving forward with machining it further. This will help update the images of the Model III & VI Mods as well.

And, we will soon have a new thread, for a new Mod - a "different" Mod V just starting it's journey. A few visual clues...

Within a few days I'll start a new thread that will go through the process of creating a custom Mod with a theme...

Later,

Rick

When will the Mod be available the scarier the better ..

Actually the new Mod is not "new", just a Model V for a customer with a modified body and some higher end options. I thought it would be cool to follow the build. I'll start the thread soon - most the parts are in.

Quick update everybody,

The dragon continues, and I've been doing some modeling on the squonker body. Some of the 3D printed parts are being redesigned to the new body, and test prints will be made soon.

I've got the first two proto kits, a Walnut Mod I & a Caribbean Rosewood/Wenge Mod II, but haven't had time to sit down and assemble/solder them. Hopefully soon. For those of you interested, I'm considering also selling some Mods as a self assemble/solder kit. Just solder, glue parts in & vape. I can produce great assembly instructions with the 3D models.

I'll try and get a pic of the new body with parts assembled into it by the next post -

There are video updates with the Dragon Mod - I also continue to bang away at the keyboard with the squonker.

The latest anti-vaping commercial?

Hey Rick, I would love to talk to you about doing a box for a DNA 200 with a 1,300 mAh LiPo. It souldnt be much different than the dual 18650.

Hey Mark - thanx.

The Mod II (2x18650) is available as a DNA200 w/ LiPo. I don't have it in the pulldown as PayPal tops out at ten choices (I need to figure a workaround), and couldn't fit it. It's 249.00 compared to the DNA75 version @ 209.00. That's with an Oak or Walnut body. Other body materials are available, as well as a plethora of options.

You can PM or email me at: rick (at) absolute-wood (dot) com if you like, and we can put together exactly what you want.

Cheers,

Rick

Well, crap...
33075107790_f48d09f2af_z.jpg

This is our water meter (water main) coming into the house. Also the trunk and roots of an older city tree. They don't get along so well... Root intrusion somewhere very near the box. Not the first time for root problems with this tree -

Just above the box in the pic, when drained, it is a solid mass of roots everywhere. Our plumber / friend needs a big, 12" deep chunk of roots removed to make an interim fix. I save a bunch by doing the excavation myself... (can't blame him - lol)

So...

I'm having to take a couple days to get that done - I know it'll be a a tough, dirty job. Then we have our marathon tax appointment on Friday - so much for having time to get prepared for that. Might have to hold the roots till after I'm ready for the tax guy.

I hope to be back on things this coming weekend.

Yay

Rick, just an idea....dig a pit away from the tree, dig a pit directly below the water meter, have a plumber directional bore a hole from the pit away from the tree to the meter box, you shouldn't have any problems in the future if done this way.

Oh yea - this is a "low dollar" temp fix. Found the leak, at the connection just outside the box. It looks like regular PVC connects to the brass in the box. Our plumber said several houses in this neighborhood (1989) have this. Probably not to code, even at the time. There's copper pipe exiting the ground going into the house, turns to standard PVC somewhere before the meter.

This starts about 8 years ago when we had a drain backup, and a camera showed a root intrusion and crushed pipe just past the curb, under the street. Location meant the city paid for it. Their tree btw, not allowed to remove it - paperwork, etc... A couple years ago, backup again, camera showed the main line (ABS) badly crushed from under the house slab in the center of the house, all the way to a spot in my shop. It was 40' of trenching in the house and under a couple walls through the concrete to replace the line because of 3-4" roots wrapped around the line. Probably should have replaced all the line and petitioned the city to remove the tree then. We had to pay for it, damage was on "our" side of the curb.

Our plumber tells us that after some pushing, the city has reimbursed homeowners for damage caused by their trees that they fight you from removing. Hope so, the trenching episode was a bill over $15k just for the plumbing repair. I have pics of the 10' long root pieces pulled from under the house. Now this. They may listen now.

I see it all the time, and it's a costly repair. Good luck with the water problem.

Just a note, rant, whatever - it's important - many may have gotten the CASAA email about this.

My thoughts on the matter, you're welcome to use any or all of it if you like -

The measure that keeps existing vapor products on the market (Cole-Bishop amendment) is seriously being considered for the new fiscal year budget. This saves the vapor market and thousands of small American companies - notably mine. Millions of lives are at stake. Everyone will be affected. Our representatives need to hear from us.

Favorable data from scientific groups around the world is pouring in (consensus of 95% safer than smoking) and overwhelming the cries of those entities that will lose billions of dollars if vapor products are widely adopted as the safer alternative to tobacco use.

State governments receiving payments from large tobacco companies (Tobacco Master Settlement) and pharmaceutical companies making stop smoking aids will lose the most. The tobacco companies seem to know this is their future and are quietly supporting parts of the vapor industry.

Elimination of the vapor market will have a direct, negative impact on more than ten million individuals in the US, and many more will experience indirect negative consequences. More than 99% of the products will disappear from the market in August 2018 if this is allowed to transpire. Many jobs and small businesses lost, many who will reluctantly return to smoking. Removing the right to choose for future tobacco users. A billion people are expected to die from tobacco use this century. Vapor products might cut that number in half.

If this is "whined" or complained out of the budget by a group of politicians and activists, the possibility of the most profound boon to public health in decades or even centuries will be nearly choked from existence.

This seems the equivalent of ignoring the promise of great good coming from something new, not generally understood and almost magic like with it's ability to save lives - like penicillin.

We can't let money and power win this time, it hurts us all.

Hey Gang - No real news - Wanted to fill 'ya in.

Had a couple feeling crappy off days, and we've had the last few days with temps just below 100f (last day today, possible rain this w/e). Too hot in the shop to work - can't take the heat like I used to!

The Dragon Mod will come off the mill shortly; sanding next... The new Oba Mod (custom Mod II LiPo) will be introduced to the bandsaw!

Trees are down from high winds and rain. About 1/4 of our privacy fence destroyed, garden shed crushed, mom and dad's porch swing destroyed, and still have another monster tree that could go at any time. This sucks out loud in seven different languages.

All is now taken care of except for the fence. I've got a temporary fence up to keep the dogs corralled until the privacy fence can get fixed.

Good to hear that things are getting back to normal. I've never dealt with significant damage from weather or other - well, marauding tree roots don't count ;) .

We've only had some heat, and a couple times of 60-70 mph winds with a scattering of big trees down. Luckily, we (I) only had a big mess to clean up a couple times. We have a few big (70-100'+) trees we always keep a watch on during these winds with all the rain this year after years of drought.

On the topic of progress and wood chip pile diving...

Again, I've been experiencing some off days mostly horizontal... Also, I have been trying to get a couple holders clear coated so I can send them on to their new homes:
33136242204_5cf7bd5de0_c.jpg

There are two, almost twins. Very special wood, months in the making (September); they really need to go home. It will take a couple or few days with the right temps to get them sprayed and polished.

I will construct a jig to sand the radii on the side of the Dragon MOD, and should post some pics / video of the ongoing process soon.

Expect to see occasional pics of a new MOD just starting production as well -

Toots!

Hey everyone,

Lots of cutting foam and cardboard to cover all the holes before clear coat for the large holders pictured above - almost there.

Wanted to show you guys the design and finished assembly of a jig to sand large radii on Mod bodies - works with an oscillating drum sander: (three minutes)

Back to work!
