Questions About Wires & Rebuilding Coils

Hey guys, I just joined because I finally hit a spot in researching where I can't come to a decision by myself. I only recently got into mods (bought a kangertech nebox) and before that all I knew was ego-T pens. I've been pretty successful figuring most of it out with the internet and experimenting (watts, tc, all that jazz) but as I'm trying to shop for bulk wire, I am a little overwhelmed.

Does my Nebox only support a certain type of wire? The display only allows for a few settings for ni200, titanium, and wattage mode (which I'd rather avoid), so does that mean I can't use something like kanthal? That is the wire type that seems to be the most obvious choice (I didn't like how 'nichrome' was more difficult to wrap—I have bad finger joints) for me, but I'm nervous to order 100 feet of wire only to have it purn out my coil the second I press the fire button.

I'm also wondering if I need to prepare the wire in any way, such as cleaning or anything? Surely it comes from a dirty factory?

And what are the devices that I've heard rumors of that help you coil wire quickly and easily? I haven't been able to find a name for any, but that would really help me out with my fingers.

Thanks for any help you guys, I only just joined but I've been trying to do it myself. Cheers, everyone!

Kanthal is strictly wattage mode (unless you have a hOHM slice G2) titanium and nickel (ni200) are each for their respective temp control modes, and specifically for temp control. Wire is alot cheaper than you think, I buy mine from lightning vape for a few bucks for a 100ft spool it's well worth it. And yes coil jigs are very helpful and can be found for cheap as well

Thank you so much Diescum88 and Rabbit Slayer! I've started to look for 26-ish gauge ni200 wire to purchase (looking on amazon right now). And a "jig" is exactly what I was talking about, I wasn't looking forward to dealing with drill bits or anything at all, thanks a lot.

Reading about coiling with the Nebox I see a lot of people complaining about dry burns and other types of things, but I've only experienced that if I put too much cotton into my coil build (which I did for the first 4-5 attempts, sadly). I'm excited to try it 100% from scratch!

Are you doing single or dual coil builds? Cuz 26g ni200 is gonna mean A LOT of wraps, like alot

Hmmm... I'm just doing single coil. I think I'll check out a thicker gauge. I have 26 in my cart now on FastTech but I'll probably swap it for a 30 now.

I threw in a jig, too :D Buying things for cheap feels so good.

Yeah that'll work better for you. But just a word to the wise is ordering your wire from FastTech you're not going to get it for at least two and a half 3 weeks lightning Vapes is honestly going to be your easiest way to go for getting it quickly they have both the website Amazon and eBay I use the eBay account and I get it that same week usually within 3 to 4 days just wanted to let you know that you're not sitting there waiting and not having anything for almost a month possibly.

And you won't regret getting a coil jig it'll save you more time I always used precision screwdrivers until I picked up one of the cheap UD coil kits from 101vape about a year ago

Ya...I'm pretty familiar with the snail-shipment of FastTech. I got my atomizers for my ego-t from there for the past year or so. I actually already ordered 10 premade coils and extra cotton a couple weeks ago when I ordered my nebox, so I should be safe with the ones that came with the kit until these new toys get here :D

I'm going to check out Lightning Vape now either way, I'm a big fan of options.

Good looking out Cheers

Hey everyone--I hope people are still paying attention to this.

I got my 30 gauge wire today, and started trying to build coils. I've made 3 of them now and NONE of them give anything close to the vapor production that my nebox kit provided out of the box. Like 80% less vapor.

I used the stock pre-coiled wires that came with the kit and they worked just fine, but no matter how I try to coil these new wires the performance is terrible. I don't get what I'm doing wrong I've tried wrapping 5 times and 7 times and no dice! I bought ni200 because that's what the coils used that nebox came with, so I'm pretty sure it's the right stuff. I can't get anything to work! Wrapping 3 times gives me .06 ohms and so does wrapping 8 times! What gives?!

I just want to build a coil and have it work. I'm wicking it properly (nothing is burning, etc) it's like the coil itself isn't getting hot enough.

Did I buy the wrong gauge? I don't know what else to try, but I'm very frustrated and the idea of spending 4$ on disposable atomizers instead of building my own for months at the same price makes me not want to vape at all anymore.

My nebox maxes out at 60 watts, but I've tried all my coil builds on low and high watt settings and performance is still awful. I don't get what the difference between my wire and the wired coils that came with my kit is, but I'm bummed and at this point just wanna vape (I don't have a back up and all my other coils are dead).

Quite frustrated.

1st off, please tel me you are only use temp control mode. you can't vape Ni200 wire in watt mode.
Outside of that in my personal opinion Ni200 is a terrible wire for vaping. I'd suggest getting some Kenthal or SS wire instead and just using power mode. 30 gauge is fine you can probably use 28 it might be a little better for you.

Ni200 also can't be dry burned so when you get the kenthal or SS wire make sure after installing you dry burn it and remove hot spots. you should get an nice even glow form the center out. then you can wick it, prime it with juice, and vape away ;)

Can you post some as detailed as possible pics of your builds? There could be a few things going on... low battery charge / voltage, the coil leads could be too long, uneven leads.... unmatched number of wraps etc... etc.... Also, are you pulse firing your coils to make sure they are glowing red evenly from the inside out?

You should be able to get your coils glowing red hot no problem at about 35 watts. Unless it's Ni200. You're not supposed to dry fire it.

Hope you're able to figure it out,
Shawn

I agree on the Ni200 not being very good for vaping. I tried my stock Ni200 coil in my TopTank Mini in temp mode and it was no where near as good as my stock SSOCC coil or any of my Kanthal A1 coils in my RBA!

This has been getting excellent reviews! I definitely would like to try this; Daedalus Coil Maker by Avidartisan - https://www.bevapehappy.com/products/daedalus-coil-maker-by-avidartisan -

Yeah that's a nice Clapton maker. Although, $80.00 is a bit steep.
However, I'd like to see an option without the drill since pretty much any standard variable speed drill will work. As would a Dremel with a drill chuck attachment.

https://www.fasttech.com/products/0...master-v3-6-in-1-e-cigarette-wire-coil-winder is what I use. $7.45 but shipping is longer than picking one up at the vape store. Mind you, the price is well worth waiting for. (vs $26.00 from stores)
