hey guys. I'm moving on up in this vaping thing and it's been a beautiful ride. I recently bought a rta and need my first mod to put it on. I've had a smok Brit one mega and then a vaporesso tarot nano. I need a "real" 200wat mod to "future proof" myself. There are just so many options out there and I've done a ton of research. I would just like to know the general communities ideas on best mods. Thanks a lot guys!

Im loving both my Smok Alien and my Pioneer4you IPV400..Both were under $50.00 and shipped from USA vendors...Two more I have my eye on as next purchases are going to be the Wisemec RX200S and the Sigelei Fuchai 213....Be sure to buy good batteries and a decent charger to use with your mods...Best of luck finding the one mod youll be happy with.

How future proof did you want to go exactly? I'm thinking this will be my next mod...

the alien for sure is a great choice. small , powerfull, good looks, everything you want in a mod basically. That would be the one to go with IMO
other good options are the smoant battlestar, IPV5, G-priv (might be overkill cause touch screen but throwing it out there), H-priv, and I'll tag @Paratech @mjag and @Deucesjack as well for some options lol

I'd stay away from the RX and the fuchai 213 but since you been here a while i'm sure you are aware of the issues with them. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone looking for a future proof mod though

Thanks for all the tips guys. I'm thinking of going with the smok alien. It seems to have everything I need for now plus a bit more to grow into. Does anyone happen to know the size of it? Specifically how it fits in your pocket for a day at work.

Hard to go wrong with the Alien for a pocketable dual 18650 mod. Still waiting for my Smoant Battestar to show up. I have a feeling it might replace the Alien in the small dual 18650 category. @SirRichardRear can answer that better on the comparisons between the Alien and Battlestar, I am just looking forward to the copper version I ordered.

I personally would rather have the Hohmtech Slice with a wrap on it for a pocket mod. I like the FSK chip better than any other chip on the market.

Either of those choices should make you happy though for a power mode mod. For TC there are better choices though.

What is your normal coil resistance?

What wattage or temp do you prefer while vaping?

I thought it was the newer RX2/3 that had battery connection problems?..The Sigelie fuchai 213 I heard the temp control doesn't work very and then again some say it does work lol.

The Wismec mods in general have weak 510 connections.

The Fuchai 213 is a good power mod up to 155 watts. TC is hit or miss depending on which firmware you get which is not upgradable so it's a crap shoot. I woukd not get one expecting to get proper TC though. The 510 on the Wismec mods is also what makes TC hit or miss.

Really either a DNA200 / 250 or Hohmtech mod is what you want for great TC performance. Most other mods are a step or 2 behind.

yes but the older RX still have thin wiring (prone to get hot at high wattage) and bad 510 pins. They just don't have the battery trey wire that snaps off like the 2/3 has. the fuchai 213 only does 155 watts max and the temp control doesn't work (it keeps rereading resistance on every hit so chain hitting causes the temp to be much higher then expected) which is really unsafe with Ni and Ti wire. it also doesn't have firmware upgrades like they said it did. But as a pure watt mod for 150 watts or less it looks nice and does the job. Just expensive IMO for all the not working features it has. if they sold it at as a 150 watt mod with no upgrades no temp control and for 40 bucks I'd consider it a good mod that does what it promises

I love the battle star mods. very underrated. hard to say if i like it better then an alien. i'd just say i love them both equally lol the copper battlestar seems like it's pure metal not painted so i doubt it'll ever look beat up. the paint on the yellow one is solid as hell. you have to try and scratch it off

@SirRichardRear is someone I trust so I am sure I will like the battlestar. It is China mfg though so at the same time I am crossing my fingers. ..lol.

I do like my Alien but the paint has been chipping in the bottom and I am very careful with my mods. I also did the latest firmware update and it has screwed up my SS316L TC, wish I didn't do that. I use a lot of mods in power mode though, the Hohmtech mods are the only ones I use 100% in tc mode. In power mode my Alien has been great, there is a reason it is one of the top selling mods of 2016.

I really am looking forward to the battlestar though, got about another week or so to wait.

Newer vaper here as well. I went with the alien mod using the big baby beast. Also have the battlestar in the mail I am waiting for! But so far I'm loving the alien, super easy to use, looks nice feels great in the hand and can easily throw it in my pocket. Everything I want. Also I just started building and seems great for that as well all the power and modes I need.

Alien is a good mod for the money but if you really want something future proof and something that is going to last then personally you can't go wrong with the Q Mini, not cheap but it's gonna last.. I absolutely love mine.

Seems nice but if he isn't interested in tc and such then there are plenty of mods out there that are on par or even better for a fraction of that price. Though it comes down to what he wants and likes. Personally I would never spend more then $90 on a mod and it better be mighty impressive for me to spend that much alone lol. But options are plenty ATM. I would say go to your local vape shop and play around with all the mods that catch your eye and see what you like. Shops I go to let you hold and use the mod displays to see if you like it.

Yeah Lacey, if your not into TC then I agree it's a lot of money to spend but compared to some of the high end mods it's not so bad..

I get it though, if it's something just for work then the Alien is a good choice but I wanted to put the Q out there as it's a dam fine example of a mod and in a different league.

All good, sooooo many options, not to mention all the DNA mods, Hotcig (abalone one, forgot the name), the Smok Marshal is a beast too..

One I will put out there which should be mentioned is the Minikin V2, awesome battery life on that mod, touch screen works well, nice feel to it..

Then there's the matter of do you go 18650, 26650 or Lipo...... o_O

Triade DNA 250 might be another or the Therion 166w.....

Best advice is just to search google and see what suits you best I guess, it's a dam mine field lol

Alright guys so I decided to go with the battlestar. Now my next question is what are the best batteries to get? Samsung? Lg? I do know a decent amount about batteries and battery safety. Also if anyone could recommend an external charger too that would be great. I finally got my geek vape ammit in the mail and got it all wicked up. I have a fused Clapton in there reading at .44 and it is absolutely amazing. Going from a pre made coil like in my Brit one mega to a real coil the vape is just hands down amazing. Clouds and flavor. I love it. Eventually on to dual coils. Also it seems like it takes the coil a decent amount longer to ramp up then I'm used too. I have it at 45 watts but don't know if I should up that or just chock it up to the internal battery not up to snuff. It's on a vaporesso tarot nano. Thanks so much for everyone's input!

Still love my Sony VCT4's true 30A batteries just watch out for fakes, genuine ones are still about though. Depends what wattage / voltage you vape at, if your in the lower range then the Sammys are good too.
Charger, I've got 2, 4 bay chargers that have been excellent, never had an issue with them, they are the Nitecore D4.

That fused Clapton needs more power, even a single 0.4, just go up in 5 watt incriminates, but I'd say 55 watt will work out great, you'll no when it's too much with how hot the vape is.

Congrats on your new mod (when it arrives)

Awesome thanks for your help. I usually order from Elementvape.com just not sure if the batteries they show actually come in a pair or just one. Thanks for the tips on the watts also. Will go up to 55 and start from there. Thanks!

Samsung 30Q if you don't vape over 150 watts. if you wanted to go higher then that all the time i'd suggest the Sony VCT5a
only buy from good sites like illumn.com liionwholesale.com and IMRbatteries.com
Luckily I just made a video last night explaining everything

At 30A continuous the temperature rose to 97°C. This is much, much too high a temperature to set this current level as the CDR. It is clearly not a 30A cell.

I wouldn't do that personally. running your batts at almost 100c is asking for trouble.
my video was made for safety guidelines not to push the absolute limit. if you want a 30 amp batt just get an HB6 for for that matter a VCT5a which is at least 25 amps and runs longer then the VCT4 and will at least run a little cooler 92c but again I'm not gonna recommend anyone doing so but if you feel you know what your doing i'm not gonna berate you for it either

I wouldn't say "Safely". Mooch says they will handle 30A but also that the risks are higher when you go above the rated CDR and this only applies to mechanical mods. However, CDR doesn't actually matter much (in regulated mods) as long as you are in the vape zone. 20 to 30 CDR and to be honest, 20A batteries are better for regulated mods, due to the higher MaH. I couldn't find a link back to the batteries you were talking about, but I am figuring they are not true 30A CDRs.
Either way.. for regulated mods, your top 2 batteries are:
Samsung 25R at 20A CDR and 2500Mah. (these run cooler than other 18650s by several seconds..(seconds being the time they take to reach 100C.))
and
LG HG2 at 20A and 3000Mah (longer run time than the Samsung 25R. These heat slightly faster, than the 25R but last longer, since you don't have to recharge as often.)

Meh vaping360 is often out of date
for instance the newer HG2s were de-rated by mooch to 18 amps and the 30q outperforms them. they also fail to mention the sony VCT5a which is a 25amp 2600mah battery. You are in the ballpark for sure though but the large amount of misinformaiton out there is why i made this Anthony Vapes Presents: Vaping Safety 101
