Can't use a scuttle anymore. Went to face lathering and haven't looked back.

Got a One Blade for Christmas for shaping & general beard trimming. It's actually not that bad if you're looking for a trimmer as the straight blade is 5 o'clock territory. Not looking forward to having to buy a replacement blade for it though, shit is pricey

Hey guys, was a bit of reading to catch up on lol. So being new to this style of shaving I'm still learning different tricks. I don't shave my whole face so I haven't tried a face lather, only in a cup. Should I try a face lather one day and just cleans up where I don't actually shave before I take the razor to my face or will I really notice a difference?
Also on another note I've tried a few new blade now that I have found locally. I found the wilkinsons irritated the hell out of my face but the murkers a awesome and I still have a couple more to try out yet.

I don't shave my whole face so I "face" lather mostly on my neck. That's the most sensitive part to shave for me so I focus there and really get the hairs to stand up. I scrub a bit on my cheeks above my beard line, but not nearly as much as my neck because I don't need it.

Give Gillette Silver Blues a shot. They're incredibly smooth and pretty sharp. Paired with an aggressive razor head, I can get a DFS in two passes across the grain, one each way.

Never saying Never.............

I will stick to my vintage razors.

Case in point, when to my barber the other day.

He offers the whole straight edged shaving experience.

He touched my face to evaluate my shave and was most impressed

Whelp, looks like I'm using my Slim Adjustable tonight. Thanks for the inspiration, Uncle!

Truth be told, prior to my visit with my barber, I did in fact use my long handled adjustable "Slim" set to #6 with a Feather blade!

Ha! What are the odds?

SLIM. Get it?!

Anyway I was thinking about the same setting with a GSB. I tried going back to an Astra the other day in my Maggard V2 open comb and the result was less than bueno. Irritated the hell out of my skin. GSBs 4 Lyfe!

IMHO the issue is with the Astra Blade?

Yeah it's definitely the blade. I used a GSB in the same head previously and it was smooth.

I think I can save the Astras for something really mild like my Superspeed.

I'm worried about not having enough weight to the razor... that's my only real reason for considering the RazoRock.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

The only drawback with the Phoenix is, all your other razors will be sad... because they won't be used nearly as much as they're used too.

How heavy is your beard? If it's heavy and thick, go for the 37 slant. if not, go for the Phoenix or a Merkur long Handle 134.

Pretty thick, pretty heavy, and a sensitive neck to boot. :/

I have a 37 and it is quite mild, IMO. It can get you like any other razor but I don't think it is nearly as aggressive as the Phoenix.

Go with the 37 then, BUT use a high tallow soap, like Palmolive Palm Oil, or my fav, Geo F Trumpers Lime or Sandalwood (note: it just take a dab to make wonderful slippery lather). Expensive, but worth every penny. Lasts a long time.

And a blade like a feather or Polsilver IMHO.

And,I wouldn't call the Phoenix "aggressive" per se. I'd say it's efficient. The lightness of it is great for those sensitive areas

I will say I love my merkur 34c. I should have bought that first. That with a feather blade is hard to beat.

Since we are throwing out software, I love stone cottage creams.

Well, despite conventional wisdom as well as wisdom dispensed here, I went with the Phoenix Bakelite Slant.

Holy. Fucking. Shit.

This razor doesn't need any weight at all. Loaded it without GSB, lathered up my Maggard Limes & Bergamot, and went to town. One pass, DFS. Done. No irritation, no burn, no nicks. Perfect.

Next time I might give my Maggard D3 handle a shot on it to give it a little more weight just as an experiment.

Just came across this post and have to say all that use a double edge razor are very smart, been shaving my head 15 years and decided to give a de edge razor a try, saved a lot of money so far and still do cut myself every now and again but not nearly as much, closest shave you can ever get, and blades are next to nothing

It's Taylor of old bond st's Jermyn street and well I must say it's is some very nice stuff and well it smell damn good to lol. Has anyone tried any of their other lines, they got a handful to choose from.

I bought Sapone Di Paolo Cremosa and it has to be the best shave soap I've ever used. The scent is great AND my wife likes it. It is much better than B&M, in my opinion, and many people put them on a high pedestal.

If you want to try an excellent shave cream, hop over to Stone Cottage Soap Works and pick up some samples. Low cost and you get five. Make sure almond flower is one of them.

You will put tobs aside once you try that, I believe.

Futur clone from Aliexpress for $6.59 with free shipping. Got to me in the East Coast in 9, count 'em, NINE days. Why doesn't my vape gear ever get here that fast?!

I'll give it go tonight and report my findings. So far the quality is outstanding for the money. Keep in mind I have no authentic with which to compare.

I have way to many razors and I've been using my Phoenix Bakelite slant religiously (one pass across the grain for DFS), but for the price I couldn't pass it up. Always wanted to try one.

I have one. Used it five times. I've considered selling it many times. I also have an RR German 37. It works really well but not as comfortable as my Rockwell.

I even stopped using my 56 red tip.

It does look nice and is supposed to be similar in settings to the 6s. I looked too but I don't think I need it.

I mainly use plate 4 and 2, if I miss days and only 2 if I shave daily. I can do two passes and have better than a DFS with plate 2 with daily shaving. Plate 3 is good too but 4 and 2 are on the same so it's easier.

Okay, so I put my first shave on my Futur clone. It was a very different experience than I expected!

Pros:
Very aggressive, which is good for my face as I have a sensitive neck and thick whiskers. When paired with a good blade (for me, Gillette Silver Blues) I can get a one pass DFS with little to no irritation. Aural feedback is amazing and helps correct technique. I found that my angle of approach needed to be much steeper than I'm used to. The Futur glides perfectly with the ultra smooth head.
Cons:
Balance is top heavy because of the gigantic head on this razor, which leads me to my next con. The head extending 2-3mm on either side of the end of the razor blade makes it difficult to set lines on my beard. In combination with the razor being heavy, off-balance, wider than the length of the blade's edges made for an unwieldy, difficult, and harrowing shave. Managed to get no nicks whatsoever but it was due to my personal awareness of technique with regards to a new razor.

This is just initial impressions and I'll use it a few more times to see if these problems persist for me. I think I require something smaller and more precise because of the way I keep my beard. If I don't find myself getting used to shaving with it I'll see if I can sell or trade it. Glad I didn't buy the authentic!

Should have waited! I may wind up getting rid of mine if I'm not happy with tonight's shave. No waiting on China shipping! Haha!!

When I went shopping for this razor, I found 2 listings for the same razor on Ali Express.

The first listing I found had a warning written in Chinglish that seemed to allude to QC issues and asking folks not to purchase at this time.

"Hello, my friends! Due to the general logistics information needs 3 to 5 days or so to have Internet tracking information query. Can not accept this time friends, do not buy. We do not accept the result of this problem caused by poor evaluation. Thank you very much.

Note: the parcel arrived in Turkey can not have a blade, due to customs security can not be passed, arrived in Turkey will not be the distribution of the blade, please understand the buyer!!!"

I would be interested in how you interpret it.......?

The one I purchased had rave reviews for the most part (I even translated some of the reviews where needed).

But for just over $7.00 including upgraded shipping, I just figured, what the hell and bought the thing:D

BTW and I hope you don't think I am a prick for asking, have you ever used any adjustable razors before getting this one?

I own both the Gillette "Slim" as well as the Gillette Super Adjustable razors and while they provide great BBS shaves, they are a bit "Quirky" and its like you need to adjust the way you shave with each different setting.

Anyway, I am looking forward to reading your report on tonight's shave:)

I purchased mine from the same vendor you did. No QC issues whatsoever. Love the finish on it!

The way I read the other listing is that tracking will take 3-5 days to appear and if you don't want to deal with that, then don't buy from them. They're also claiming no responsibility for customers who are unhappy because they somehow missed this information. And they can't ship the razor with blades to Turkey because it's illegal and they'll be confiscated. Good call going with the one you did, but be warned that I received no blades in the package I received. No big deal to me!

No offense taken on the adjustable razor question. I have a Slim that I used quite a bit, but never had to use such a sever angle with and of my other razors, including the Slim.

I'll post later on with my second impression of the razor. I shave after my 4 year old goes to bed so there's less chance of distraction.

Personally, they can keep the no doubt crap blades that are included.

I will be using either my Personna Med Prep or Feather blades.

With the upgraded shipping I chose, it is supposed to arrive in 9 to 12 days.

As always with shipments from China, it will arrive when it arrives and not sooner.

But I still get a kick watching the tracking info when it becomes available!

I wish you the best of luck on both your shave and getting your four year old to settle down and go to sleep:giggle:

Shipping was really fast! I had it in 8 days on the east coast which must be some kind of record. Why do my vape packages take so long?!

Thanks for the luck... I need it!
