Is vaping really helps you quit smoking?

I tried many times to quit it. This pdf gave me a fresh start... It has an interesting explanation on nicotine function http://www.skeftomai.gr/The_Effortless_Way_to_Stop_Smoking_ver.1.23.pdf
I am 9 days smoke-free. No temptations till now. I hope I win this time..

If not, I 'll try an e-cigarette. I never tried it before.

This forum is huge..! don't know where to start. :crazy:My question:

Is vaping really help you quit smoking? Is it true that many return to normal cigarettes after some time?

Yes, I tried many times, but always relapsed.. Exercise always helped me feel good the first days, but my biggest problem was insomnia. I feel low energy when I quit. I am curious how nicotine relates to sleep,

This time I had only one night insomnia (till now). If I loose my sleep again, I ll try vaping. I wonder if e-cigs can be a lifetime solution...

It helped me after 30 + years of smoking. I started vaping the day I smoked last cigarette. It is like anything else, it is up to you if it works or not. Good info and support is a good start and should help you succeed. Who knows you might end up with a hobby like I did and save money while doing it all.

Vaping was the ONLY thing that helped me quit smoking. Smoked 25 years and tried patches, gum, inhalers, and pills. Nothing worked, and vaping did.

I've never relapsed since I have vaped. I'll never smoke again.

I tried the gum. Stuff is expensive. Don't know if it really helped. I think I went thru one whole pack of it and then went to the vape shop. Got a set up with 18mg tobacco vape haven't looked back. 2 years and 6 months without a cigarette.

I first returned to smoking after trying the e cigs that simulate a cigarette (ones with ready made cartridge that light up at the end) for a long while thats what I though vaping was and it was a crap experience for me anyway ... fast forward another year or so and decided to give it another go this time get myself a mod and a tank and do it properly ....never looked back since, been reducing my nicotine steadily as well at 2% now thinking about going to 1% shortly then go nic free

Will I give up vaping this is the question? ...for now no I enjoy it to much as a hobby right now. Maybe when I've explored all the different things I'll wind it back (go the route of keep it simple) which is a common behaviour I've observed from some members in this forum as well

Thoroughly recommend vaping to any smoker once you find the right set up you honestly won't want to look back it'll be the best thing you ever did ;)

Congratulations on going 9 days without smoking!

As for your questions ...

Short answer -- Yes, vaping helped me quit smoking, but not overnight.

Longer answer -- I smoked 3 packs a day for over 30 years. When I first tried e-cigs they helped but weren't good enough to keep me from smoking. For about a year I alternated between smoking and vaping. Now, I haven't touched a cigarette in over 5 years, and even more, while I enjoy it as a hobby, there are days where I don't even vape at all, and I don't miss it. I'm proof that you have to stick with it to make it work, and make no mistake, it does work. Some people start vaping and never touch another cigarette, but others are like me, they struggle for some period of time before it works for them.

HTH, and good luck!

I was one of the lucky folks...smoked for 40+ years, a pack of Marlboros a day. I haven't smoked a cigarette since I had my first vape using 24 mg nic for a few weeks, now I'm down to 6-12 mg nic, 2.5 years later.

Still have a half of pack of smokes on my office desk, I give them the finger once in awhile, and no desire to smoke ever again.

Yes, it does help you stop. However, you must want to stop. Most smokers will say they want to quit, but the desire must be strong. It's not enough to know you should quit, you need more motivation.

I quit the day I tried vaping and it was very easy. I can count on one hand the number of times I felt as if I had to have a cigarette because vaping wasn't enough. I believe one must work on behavioral control as well. I forced myself early on to wait longer and longer to Vape after eating. As we know, this is a major trigger for us. It takes patience and determination to change our habits but it can be done.

Hi and welcome-
I gave myself 2 weeks to step down from cigarettes when I started vaping- I set a Quit date and over 2 years later I remain cigarette free! Was it tough- Yes! There were some days I really wanted a cigarette for the first few months(especially morning cigs), but my cigalike and Will Power helped me to fight it off, No Way was I going to let cigarettes run my life anymore!
Just keep trying- If you really want to quit cigarettes, you can! I quit a 30+ year cigarette habit, by vaping and will power!

39 years of smoking... thx to vaping, I'm now over 2 and a half years smoke-free. Vaping is the ONLY thing that has EVER worked, because it's NOT a "stop smoking" product, it's a DIRECT REPLACEMENT. All that snake-oil that pharma sells, they claim that it "removes the urge to smoke", which is total and complete bullshit; if you've smoked for a couple or 3 decades, that urge will never leave you, period. So it's necessary to find something that will satisfy that urge and NOT kill you -- enter vaping.

Some say, you have to really want to quit; some say, they quit by accident, because vaping made them forget to smoke. I found neither of those to be *completely* true, for me, but somewhere in the middle: I wanted to be a non-smoker, for a long time, I just didn't want to suffer to get there -- I wanted to walk across a bridge, not hot coals on bare feet -- and THAT is what vaping gave me. You do have to be motivated to CHANGE, because vaping is not *exactly* like smoking... it's a great substitute, but if you don't go along with the process, then it won't MAKE you do anything; you have to give yourself to the process and do whatever is necessary to make vaping work FOR YOU. It WILL NOT "remove the urge to smoke" -- after 2 and a half years, I still feel that at times; so I vape, and completely forget I ever thought about smoking. This is why when people say they're going to quit smoking by vaping, and then quit vaping, I usually laugh at them, and tell them vaping will still be here when they're ready to quit smoking again. :D

Quitting smoking is really just a great side effect of vaping, but if you go into vaping thinking it's a magic wand you'll wave and the "urge to smoke" will disappear, you're bound to be disappointed. To quote Don Henley: "How bad do ya want it?" If you're looking for a magic wand to MAKE you do something that you don't really want to do... keep looking for the sparkling little fairy. If you'd like to replace smoking with something that isn't deadly, then vaping may be just the ticket. And even if you vape for years, get down to zero nicotine and everything... if you quit the replacement, then you'll more than likely want to smoke again.

I tried to quit, I tried with snuff, snus, dip, chew, and the pen style vaporizers (you know those inexpensive ones that come with the recharge cable that screws into the built in battery). I have been smoking for a little over 30 years, im 46 now, and I have really tried off and on with no real luck.

I am not one to place too much faith in numbers, scientific data, this data or that data. I am a by the seat of your pants type of fellow. If it works, then its gotta work from the get-go, right off the bat or it just does not work for me.

I have not touched a cigarette since this past Saturday at 1pm, when my wife bought me the SMOK AL85 and a few bottles of e-juice that I had the vape shop mix up with 12mg Nicotine. I used to smoke Camels and Marlboro Reds. Yes you can do it, without much trouble too as I am proof of it. Don't sell yourself short, you can do it and believe ME, you do not have to suffer cravings either.

What I attribute a big part of my success to is a GOOD MOD. Those cheap pen style ones were always crap (Well, the ones I bought and tried to quit with anyways) and they kind of turned me into a skeptic as far as vaping is concerned for a long time. A good mod won me over as it properly vaporizes and gives me excellent options for upgrading later should I choose to do so. I cannot emphasize enough how important it is to get a decent mod. Thanks for the support DevAuto!

I was using a cigalike, and 6mg ejuice, to get to the point of quitting. On my first full day of non-smoking, after 3 wks of vaping with that cigalike, I got a variable wattage pen style, which really sealed the deal.

I don't think it's so much that you have to want to quit... but you do have to really want to be a non-smoker. Given that, ANY hardware will work, if you REALLY want it to work.

When I quit smoking cigs over 2 years ago cigalikes and vape pens were pretty much all that was out there, I sure wasn't going to use a mech mod!
Some of you are lucky to be able to get really good gear right now and even better prices and tons of great online stores. Sub Ohm tanks and mods that go over 200w- not out there when I quit cigarettes!
I do not think cigalikes and vape pens are crap! They and will power helped me slay my 30+ year cig habit! Today I am still cigarette free! Not everybody needs or wants a sub ohm experience- some like me still wanted something that felt and looked more like a cigarette. I used that kind of gear for over a year, when I then stepped up to my iStick 20w and my GSAir Tanks. Within the last year I have been enjoying sub ohming and higher wattage mods- I have cut my nic to 3mgs and cigarettes are still repulsive to me! I have to thank cigalikes for showing me I could quit cigarettes with their help- because I really wanted to quit smoking! Ooops and I forgot You Tube also a big help and inspiration for me, since I knew no other vapers- I learned from them and still learn from them, also Vape Forums like Vaping Underground, so helpful and encouraging!
Like Andria stated- ANY hardware will work, if you REALLY want it to work.

The first time I switched over to vaping from smoking, it was pretty easy, they just kinda fell away. But after my post-appendectomy relapse, it was harder; I kept waiting for them to just 'fall away"... and it finally occurred to me, I had to actually make an effort, draw a line in the sand, and not cross it. Coming to that realization, and then doing it and sticking to it, that's by far the hardest part of it.

I can say after a hour + train ride into the city. Then jump straight into a cab to a meeting. Vaping has helped me quit smoking. There would of been no way I could of done that while smoking. I would of been crawling up the wall and or late for the meeting. So that made my day.

I hope it does, as I can't afford cigs anymore on my budget.
My bro, who's still active military got me to thinking about vaping. But now I don't have much of a choice. They bumped the tax's up here in Peru to the point that it's down to a choice of eating or smoking... so after 40 years of cig's, I'm hoping vaping can get me off cig's.

I smoked for over 37 years before vaping and would have picked cigarettes over food - and did a few times, lol

Yes, Vaping can get you off cigs, but you may have to work at it. For some folks it's easy, for me it wasn't, but I did get there. I have faith that you can too.

It was easier for me than opening a packet of crisps, BUT... there were some sacrifices I had to pay in return, which, to me, personally, turned out to be a million times worth it. Up front I got to tell you I don't know anyone who jumped into vaping anywhere near similar to how I did, and neither does the shopkeeper who helped me get where I am today... at least that's what he told me.

What I did is I skipped cig-alikes, skipped tiny underpowered regulated mods, skipped tanks (both small and big)... instead just went straight for a big regulated mod with a big dripper (i.e., what they call an "RDA", specifically one that measures 25mm in diameter), strong batteries, a separate battery charger, Coil Master kit v3, some cotton for my wick, some juice, and two spools of wire. The shopkeeper was kind enough to install two decent coils (that he built for me while I was watching him build them...) into the funny looking RDA. This setup was at .3 Ohms and so I started at 80 Watts. Took exactly three days for me to quit smoking completely. That's after having smoked 16 normal cigs (18mg nicotine) per day on average for more than 20 years. Only smoked one last cig, which was on day three (and that one I could have avoided very easily if I had known my mod wasn't factually broken, but anyway... shit happens). Been smoke free for almost two months now (actually two whole months if I don't count that one last smoke). Never felt the urge to smoke again except that one particular time when I accidentally thought I couldn't vape. Normally it would take a bit of experience with vaping first before moving to such a more "advanced" setup. With the proper guidance and information, though, I believe this to be in fact the single best way to start vaping. This is not because vaping feels the same as or very similar to smoking. It doesn't. It's an almost completely different type of experience. But the key point IMHO is if you want to quit smoking, how much of a real chance do you have if it's going to make you feel bad? Not saying tiny pen-style devices are crap, but then again I don't think I'll want to trade what I have for one of those, knowing what I know now (which still isn't an awful lot, but could be a lot worse, and before I entered the shop I knew next to nothing). So either way it still boils down to the importance of educating people about what's out there, and about what one can expect from vaping so it's about trying to help eachother out with support. This community here on Vaping Underground forum can, and does do exactly that. So big thanks to everyone here, you people are all amazing! :hearts:

We saw someone at a bike show smoking some kind of shiny tube, asked them what they are smoking. We had never heard of vaping or that it even existed, they educated us a bit on vaping. Next day my wife went and bought a couple of clearo/ego kits and some 24 juice. That was 4 years ago and we both quit ciggys the day those kits showed up. Bit of research and the willingness to learn all I could. Spent hours on forums, google and youtube figuring out my gear. I was rebuilding those clearos within my first month of vaping then protanks, kayfuns and now subtanks with a few other attys mixed in. 2 years later I began to DIY my juice and now today I look back to my wife's and my exceptional vape experience. We wanted to quit smoking and tried patches and gum but couldn't kick smoking.
I use to be a avid downloader so I totally understand sharing and others shared their knowledge that made my vape experience what it is today so I share my experiences and knowledge to help others get past their problems..

Was there about 5 years ago...what I remember the most was the weather.......:)

https://weather.com/weather/tenday/l/PEXX0568:1:PE
Love it there, used to go every year until I my Dad's health turned for the worse and had to focus on him. Now that he's gone I'm planning on moving down there in a couple of years after I tie things up here State side. I love it down there up in the Andes, of all the places I've been there's where I feel I belong. I've been eyeing around Urubamba or around Calca. It's nice around TipĂłn also just the weather isn't as nice as down in the Valley. I've built some friendships around Urubamba so we'll see where I finally end up ;)

Fuck I miss that place ya know

Ecuador is an itch I've got to scratch and plan on visiting there, Columbia also down around Patagonia. I spent about a month in Caracas back in 2002 before the shit really hit the fan there. I love the people and Culture in S. America and fed up with the plastic culture here and rest of the 1st world countries.

I actually would rather jump in the deep end to start. Already found the battery charger I'd like to get. The rebuild kit that I'm looking at has pretty much everything. I was thinking of also getting this coil kit.
While to start, I'd prefer something that hits/draws like a cig.... meaning MTL, I don't want a great big mouthpiece to suck on. The pen type/size are perfect, but haven't seen a rebuild-able with one. Rebuilding doesn't look all that hard. not with the stuff available today. I work with small wire and stuff doing the little bit of RCA that I'm able to do.
Later on, I know I'll even want to get into mixing my own juice. But I can only get a little bit each month. I live here in Lima, because my disability check affords me just enough to pay the bills each month. But at least here i can have something that resembles a life.

Anyone know of a rebuild-able tank that i can draw off of with a narrow chimney ?

In all honesty, What I have found is nothing helps you quit smoking! It is something you really have to want to do by yourself. If you think some vape from one of these will help you stop smoking.... "there is no easy way to a beneficial ending" great quote

You do realize your personal experience has no bearing on anyone else?

Also, when someone qualifies their statement as being honest, there is some dishonesty in the statement. Just saying.

You're wrong. What is true is that nothing will MAKE you quit smoking. Vaping, however, is a HUGE help, by being a direct replacement, once you have made the decision and commitment. But without the commitment... vaping is no more useful than any of BP's snake oil; it won't do it for you, it just makes it easier to stick to.

It helped me although I had no intention nor the commitment at all to quit smoking. In fact I didn't allow anyone of my family or friends to advice me on quitting as well.

I smoked for 14 years till one day my younger brother told me "try my vape device instead of having this particular cigarette now" and it was cool then I decided to buy a vape mod just for the sake of cards night or when playing on my PS.

Huh 5 days latter I hatted the cigarette and stopped.

That was April 14, 2016
2 weeks later I have seen the tar coming out of my lungs and my general health become much better

The moral is don't try to find a cause to quit or stay away from cigarettes. love the vaping experience more and you will not come back to smoking.

Good luck

I think you must want to quit, only then can vaping help you quit.

I was down to 3-5 ciggies a day (from a pack a day) before I switch to vaping, and was able to quit smoking completely after 3 days.

I was down to 3-5 ciggies a day (from a pack a day) before I switch to vaping, and was able to quit smoking completely after 3 days.

Quite a few of us have just disproven that theory. The thought of quitting smoking hadn't entered my mind in 20 yrs, when I started vaping. A month later, I didn't smoke anymore.

What IS necessary, is the ability to stick to a commitment -- if one DECIDES, ok, no more smoking... you have to stick to it, if you want it to stick to you. If you decide to quit but then run for a cigarette the first time it gets challenging, then no, it won't work. Maybe that indicates that the person didn't really want to quit, I don't know. What it indicates to ME is that vaping is not a magic wand, it won't do it for you -- commitment is still required.

And then, there are some for whom nicotine is not and will never be enough to get them over the bad cravings... those people need WTA, or without it, no amount of commitment is going to be really successful -- it's hard to remember a commitment when you're in the middle of what feels like a psychotic break from withdrawal, and people who are dependent on the MAOIs do feel that way -- I've had my family members BEG me to go back to smoking, in the past when I tried cold-turkey. Only vaping, and adding WTA to the vape, allowed me to finally make the commitment stick.

But some have quit because vaping made them forget to smoke.

Its an opinion not a theory, so I'm not sure exactly what you're "disproving".

That there is no one sure way that vaping will help you quit. Some people switch over to vaping because they forgot to smoke, thx to vaping. Some people walk in a vape shop and lo and behold, quit smoking. Some people vape for years and may or may not ever be able to make it stick. The only thing that's surely true is that vaping helps more people to quit or drastically cut down than anything else that's come before, which is why all the ANTZ are having 18 hissy fits a day about vaping -- because their livelihoods depend on people continuing to smoke, no matter what kind of smoker-hate they spout. They can't stand that vaping may deprive them of jobs, deprives them of a way to persecute those of whom they disapprove, or that vaping deprives wannabe-quitters of a lot of the suffering that formerly went with quitting.

You basically said what I said in a much longer, self-indulgent post. Again, explain to me how you can "disprove" my opinion about my own experience in vaping?

My theory is that the better you like the vape that comes out of your setup, the higher chance you'll have that you'll like it better than smoking cigarettes, and that you'll keep liking it better. So if vaping makes you feel like shit, then either you are just an unlucky person to fall in that category (it happens), or you are doing it wrong... which nobody can disprove to me because starting to vape has got me off smoking instantaneously as well as has been keeping me completely off smoking, right off the bat, by completely thoroughly eliminating my wanting to smoke again. Ever. Sounds too good to be true? Not after I tried it!

That's a good strategy indeed, though I only happened on it with my 2nd go-round, trying to get back to vape-only after a month-long relapse to dual-use. My first time around, I insisted that I needed something that was at least similar to the taste of my cigarettes; everyone told me I'd never find it, but I did -- MyFreedomSmokes' Virginia reminded me very strongly of Virginia Slims -- so much so, that sometimes when I'd take a hit here at my desk, I'd be all "OMG, I'm in the house!" Then "Oh, but THIS is allowed in the house!" :giggle: That 2nd time around, though... actually it was "cool pineapple" that did it for me, closely followed by Blueberry Muffin flavor; after about 2 wks of vaping that, I had zero use for anything tobacco-flavored anymore. :D Then a couple months later I started trying out DIY... made my strawberry & cream flavor almost right off the bat, and that was that; it's so tasty that I simply couldn't get enough! And now that I'm so accustomed to this yummy sweet flavor, I'm pretty sure that cigarettes would taste even worse. But that relapse to dual-use cured me of ever wanting to tempt my habit again; damn cigarettes got their hooks back into me within about 2 days, and it was much harder to drop them, that 2nd time. That was when I came to realize that vaping really isn't a magic wand; commitment is necessary, and the stones to stick to it -- which ended up, in my case, requiring WTA.
