Cloud Kicker Society Icon Review by DeucesJack

Full Disclosure:

I received this mod directly from Cloud kicker Society (CKS) solely for the purposes of this review. This will not in any way, shape, or form affect my opinion or cause me to give this mod a favorable review. As always this DeucesJack review will be honest, straightforward, and precise.

First Impressions Out Of The Box:

Packaging is really nice with a flip open box and a magnetic closure. Pull out the mod and she has a silky, rubbery like texture that feels smooth. It just feels great in your hand from the first touch. Wait, whats this? Where do the batteries go? I see no door or seams. Weird? Oh, here we go the mod pulls apart from the middle. Wow, this thing is light. Warranty card says that it’s good for six months. Not bad.

From Top To Bottom:

This mod has a 24mm platform that houses a gorgeous stainless steel gold plated 510. The 510 is very springy with plenty of travel. Seems to be a very high quality 510. The platform looks great with any tank up to 24mm but because of the bulbous shape of the sides of the mod it doesnt look bad with a 25mm tanks.

This is a three button mod. The power button is easy to locate, slightly raised, and seems to be made of plastic with a nice click to it. The +/- buttons are the same material as the power button and they also are slightly raised and have a nice tactile feel to them. My only very minor complaint about the +/- buttons is that they are kind of tough to get to when pressing them both at the same time to lock the resistance. For those that like to use their mods as maracas I hate to disappoint you but this mod has no button or battery rattle. This things built solid.

As I said in the beginning this mod breaks in the middle. Pull the mod apart in the middle and the battery compartment is revealed. It’s all made of plastic but it feels like a high quality mod. I almost hate to say it’s made out of plastic because I don't want to leave the reader with the impression that this is a cheap plasticy mod because it definitely is not. The batteries load in rather easily. The Icon takes 2 18650's. There is a bar that comes across the batteries to secure them. Everything fits tightly and securely. The bar has clear markings for the battery orientation. All in all it’s a clean no nonsense look.
a674c2fab865c5298a58f0a2d3d3c7de.jpg

The battery cover as well as the whole mod has a smooth silky feel to it. It has a rubbery type of texture that feels absolutely fantastic in the hand. It has wild looking graphic on it that is available in Black and White. Both color mods have black, gold and white coloring. The graphic is the Japanese wind god Fujin or Futen he is the Japanese god of the wind and one of the eldest Shinto gods. He is portrayed as a terrifying wizard-like demon, resembling a red headed green-skinned humanoid wearing a leopard skin, carrying a large bag of winds on his shoulders. I think it’s kind of kool and a really nice touch that definitely adds to this mods uniqueness.

The screen is nice and bright. Easy to read in all kinds of environments and conditions. One of the only cons of this mod is that the screen can’t be flipped. The menu system is really easy once you get to know it.

- 3 clicks to lock the screen
- 3 clicks to unlock
- 5 clicks to enter the menu system
- +/- button is used to scroll through the different sub menus
- Fire button to to scroll through the different main menus

This mod has a few different modes that I will go through. It has Power mode, Bypass mode, VPC (Variable Power Curve) mode, Auto Temp mode, and Normal Temp mode.

Bypass and Power mode are pretty self explanatory but we’ll touch on them nonetheless. Bypass mode is basically like using this mod as a mech mod. Power mode is being able to select just your wattage. The vape in power mode is smooth and consistent almost eerily reminiscent of my FSK board. It feels really accurate and ramps up even the big exotic coils rather quickly.

VPC mode allows you to set your own power via 5 presets. This can only work in power mode. It’s a very nice touch that gives you a lot more control over your vape if you're a power mode vaper. I have used and enjoyed it but as most of you know I am a TC vaper.

Auto Temp mode is made specifically to be used with Sub Ohm tanks that use factory coils. While I use a lot of RTA’s and not many Sub Ohm tanks or factory coils I have to say that this feature works extremely well. I used my OG Crown with the Ni and SS coils. It worked extremely well and gave me a nice thick flavorful vape. I also tried it with CKS’s No. 9 tank with the same exact results. It’s basically an idiot proof way of TC vaping. Slap in a coil, pick your material and vape. You don’t even have to set the temperature. The board is programmed to give you an optimal TC vape and it does a great job at it. Whoever programmed this board did a phenomenal job. It works very well and this mod is a sheer pleasure to vape in this mode with Sub Ohm tanks that take factory coils. It works with RTA’s as well but CKS advises you to use it with factory coils because of the inconsistencies of wicking when using an RTA, RDTA, or RDA.

Normal Temp mode is just a dream to use and it works well with any RTA, RDA, RDTA, or Sub Ohm tank. The difference between this mode and Auto mode is in this mode you get to pick your temperature. Again I have to say this is one of the most accurate boards I have ever used. I own them all from the DNA to the FSK to the Yihi and everything in between. This board hangs with the best of them in TC. In this mode the vape is smooth consistent and flavorful. I am very impressed with this board and this mod has quickly become one of my favorites, bar none.

***NOTE*** In both Normal and Auto TC mode you must manually lock the resistance by pressing the +/- buttons at the same time.

Another thing that has impressed the hell out of me with this mod is the battery life. I have been vaping her in TC mode since I got her and I get almost a full day out of a single set of 18650’s. This board seems to be really efficient. It has balanced 1 amp charging and the board is wired for updates, however there are no updates as of this writing.

But Deuces. How Does She Vape?:

I have to say that I have not been so impressed with a mod since I first tried the FSK board. This is one badass mod that can chuck clouds with the best of them in Power mode. It also does TC with the best them as well. I took this mod out with me for the Super Bowl and got nothing but compliments. The TC on this box is just super smooth. Smooth enough to rival a DNA, FSK, or Yihi board. Whatever this V.O. Tech is, it certainly is superb. This is one versatile box that can definitely satisfy any type of vapers need.

To be totally honest normally not being able to choose your wattage in TC mode would be a huge, huge con for me but in this case it's not because the board is programmed that well. I know, I know my experience with boards like this that don't allow you to set your wattage has been terrible as well. Trust me on this one though, they got this right.

Conclusion:

If you're looking for a box that does up to 200 watts, performs awesome in Power mode, performs awesome in TC, is comfortable, good looking, and feels great. Look no further, this is it. In my opinion it’s worth every penny. God knows I have spent a hell of a lot more and have gotten a hell of a lot less. Even if you're not sure sure about TC and looking to get into it or try it then this is the mod for you. This mod has my highest approval and is definitely DeucesJack approved.

If you found this review helpful please feel free to give it a like and me a follow. If you're a Vendor and would like a Deucesjack review please feel free to PM me.

Nice review. Just wondering what wattage is it at in TC mode or is it relative to the Temperature that is set by the user.

Thanks!

In Auto TC mode you don't do anything but select the material. No temperature, or wattage choice. You just vape and the chip does everything else. In Normal TC mode you get to pick the temperature you want but not the wattage. Both modes work fantastically.

@Deucesjack I have had my Icon 200 since Monday and agree with everything you have said about it's functionality. Could do without the graphics but they don't bother me really. The problem I have had is when chain vaping with certain atomizers I tend to trigger the devices temperature protection too easily. I get the "To Hot" message at between pull 7 and 10. There is very little metal to help dissipate the heat on this thing. Have you triggered the temperature protection on your's?

Wow, shocked at that. Never once have I seen that message. Funny thing is the only tank that gets really hot when chain vaping is the No. 9 tank they sent me with the mod.

You're are locking the resistance in TC mode right?

Absolutely... Just looking for a second opinion before I contact CKS. The atomizer is most definitely hotter than on my other devices when temperature protection triggers though. So I don't know if it is the one issue with this almost all plastic box, or a small defect in my otherwise perfectly working mod.

I would contact them. From what I hear the CS is good. I got a dry coil message once but it was totally my fault. I accidentally left the jfc closed on my Alleria. If you are familiar with that tank you'll know it's real easy to do. Nice to know the tc works though. Lol. What tank, coil and wattage is it happening on or is it every tank?

It happens in Auto mode with smaller RTAs with SS Claptons at .15 ohms and with my Melo 300 tank at 105 Watts in power mode. I have not had the temperature protection trigger with any of my other, larger tanks or with my RDAs with similar builds or coils. In fact I can use a Melo 300 coil in a TFV8 at the same wattage without triggering the temp protection. The same build in an Aromamizer Supreme never triggers it. The more I think about it the less I think the mod has a problem. The Icon just can't dissipate the heat fast enough if the tank doesn't help adequately for the way I am vaping. A 510 heat sink would probably take care of the problem. I'll call CKS and see what they say, but this is probably working as it is suppose to.

That may well be true. Tbh, I don't run big tanks. I just don't vape that way. I run the OG Crown, Serpent Mini, Merlin Mini, Merlin. Bombertech Pindad, Oumier White Bone Mini, Alleria, and a few dual coil beta tanks with no issues so far. I also rarely vape above 85 watts in power mode or 500F in TC. I have noticed in Auto TC mode I do have to run my tanks at a slightly lower temperature than I do on other mods. I'm talking about maybe 5-10 degrees lower.

Thinking of picking one up.

How does the chip compare to dna?
I cover that here in the review:

I have to say that I have not been so impressed with a mod since I first tried the FSK board. This is one badass mod that can chuck clouds with the best of them in Power mode. It also does TC with the best them as well. I took this mod out with me for the Super Bowl and got nothing but compliments. The TC on this box is just super smooth. Smooth enough to rival a DNA, FSK, or Yihi board. Whatever this V.O. Tech is, it certainly is superb. This is one versatile box that can definitely satisfy any type of vapers need.

Good review, Jack, but I have to say, that is one ugly mod......:goat:

Have to agree, be nice if they offered a 'standard edition' if you know what I mean.

Hi, Need your suggestion about best battery for CKS Icon ? Did you hear about battery detection issue ? Thanks
Haven't heard about that. I use whatever Sonys, Lg's, and Samsung's that I have in my rotation.

Received my icon200 a couple of days ago and I am amazed....:bliss:
By far the lightest mod I ever held in my hand and the board is super efficient and powerful.... vaping between to 90w top on the variable power and the batteries last at least a full day!!! usually they would not make it half a day!!! :D

For sure it's a solid mod. I only recommend the good stuff. Solid chipset as well.

Indeed solid device and worths every penny...
Btw, you have not reviewed the rdta5 so I assume it was not as good as expected?
I think I will get it in any event but would still like to have a second opinion!

Lol, your assumption would be wrong. I'm writing the review as we speak. It will be posted in a few hours. She's a cloud chucker.

Had the same problem. Contacted cks and told me to replace the blue wire connecting the battery door to the board. I followed their suggestion and problem solved!

A mate of mine did the repair for me as I lack the basic skills... but yes, you will need to solder it. On the other hand, if you are located in US then contact CKS and will be happy to replace the mod if the warranty is still valid. I did not get in the process as I'm located in Europe and with the postal expenses would be cheaper to buy a new mod...
