What am i doing wrong???

So i have been vaping for about 12 weeks, cigarette free 10 weeks.
The problem is i go through coils really fast. If i am lucky a coil will last 5 or 6 days. My set up is a istick power max 80w with a vengeance tank that i run at 35w. with juices 60vg 40pg. when you factor in the cost of juice and coils i am spending nearly as much as i would on smokes.
Anyone have insight as to what i am screwing up!!!

How much are you using it? The more you use it, the faster it will burn out.

You could do some research, build your own coils on a different atty, and make your own juice....doing both brings the cost of vaping down to about nill.

Using on breaks at work, commuting to and from work and with coffees in the evening. Not chain vaping. One other thing is that i get quite a bit of residue (unburnt juice) and needs to be constantly cleared up in order to enjoy the juice.
don't really have time to DIY

I could never get coils to last when I used to use them. Couple things that come to mind are...
1. Juice has too much sweetener.
2. Running coil above recommended wattage.
3. Make sure to prime the coil so you don't fire on a dry coil.

When I first started, I was burning through them really fast. Then I started using 70/30 or (preferably) 50/50 juice and being careful about not spilling juice in the wrong tube, and they started lasting longer. The ones I have in my tanks now have lasted 6 weeks thus far.

Also the residue you're talking about. Do you mean juice is leaking? U could try a higher VG liquid or turn up your watts a bit. (If your coil can go higher)

5-6 days is a little short on time frame. Possible solution would be to turn up the wattage a bit. if you are vaping at 35w on a coil that is capable of 80w, maybe the coil isn't getting hot enough causing the residue. I agree with an above poster about sweeteners. Personally, DIY coils aren't that bad or time consuming. I've moved over to RTAs. Basically a tank with a DIY coil and wicking. Much cheaper and better flavor. Takes some time to get used to building but isn't too difficult. You could always buy a cheap RTA to practice on while you have the tank as a daily, too.

sweetener was an issue initially - switched juice but still killing coils.
never have gone above recommended wattage
always always always primed and waited for coils to wick.

can you recommend an RTA that is newbie friendly.......
not a cloud chaser..... i do wanna taste my juice........ nicotine is important as i recently quit smoking......
looking for an inexpensive RTA that is large enough for my not so nimble hands can work with.

i think this is a nice and good rta kit and great for tasting, has a big tank(6ml) + spare tank, airflow control, i guess it works up to 60watts

I've had the griffin 25 mini for a long time now. It's so good I never have the urge to buy another tank.

I use a digiflavor siren(single coil) as my MTL rebuildable...only one coil to deal with so building on it isn't hard and wicking is easy, and it has very good flavor.

If you don't have the interest or time for coil building, then I would suggest you buy another tank from another brand and see how that works for you in terms of how long those coils last. Unless your COV Vengeance tank takes coils from another brand, then try that brand instead. At least this way you can tell if it's the COV coils or not.

Also, darker juices kill coils faster just like sweet juices. By dark, I mean iced tea dark. If the darkness of the juice is even just 50% the darkness of iced tea, it doesn't seem to affect my coils. But different coil heads will have different outcomes.

I can go over a month on a Kanger Toptank with an SSOCC coil if the juice is not too sweet and not dark. But if it's sweet or dark then I'm luck to get 5 days out of it. But I also only vape at 8W max.

Lastly, sorry to hear you fell for the "vaping is cheaper" lie. If you're buying factory coils and vaping expensive designer juice, that's expensive depending on how much you vape. Vaping is like cigarettes and everything else. The more you are willing to do yourself, the cheaper it is. The less you are willing to do yourself, the more expensive it is. Vaping is best to switch to for getting off of cigs, not for saving money.

However, if money is extremely tight and your vaping is really that big of a strain on your finances, to be honest, quitting is the only thing that will cure that unless you are willing to DIY everything.

That said, if you are willing to learn making your own coils and wicking your own tanks, then I would say the Kangertech Toptank Mini or Subtank Mini is the easiest route. You can use SSOCC factory coils on them but they also come with an RTA deck and those decks are by far the easiest decks to coil and wick IMHO (horizontal coil, not as easy for vertical coils IMHO). I like these tanks because you can use them as a regular tank with factory coils or as an RTA. Whichever floats your boat.

I agree with all of the above, it all seems quite good advice.

I somewhat disagree yet do comprehend your point and might flex on
disagreeing a bit. As you point out to some degree it is in what you do
for yourself. That noted I know that smoking tobacco cigarettes I would
spend over 15 thousand dollars per year The last two years with vaping,
I have only spent around 400 dollars, and am now at a point I'll likely
spend 200 dollars per two years.

Granted, I build my own coils now and very nearly DIY on juice. Still.
I am saving hand over fist in direct up front cost. The residual back
end cost, or lacking of it for vaping reducing risks? That's priceless.
:)

If and/or when you decide to switch from RTA to RDA you can then use the
Velocity style decks if you use a Griffin 25. It is the same basic build deck.
I have a few Velocity style decks used for squonking at times, although
of late it seems I'm remaining a Goon, Gus. :)

I change mine every two weeks in my main device and just changed coils in my two backups that have been in service four months.

I think you are using it too much that's why it is burning so fast.If you are aware of the cost, you can make your device.

one of the main reasons that RBAs became the norm in the vaping world was.the disposable cartomizers and disposable dripping atties made by the chinese had horrible quality control and it was common to buy a pack of cartos and have 3 or 4 of them faulty..it made vaping alot more expensive.and annoying.

Only adding on that the ProTank type/style of coil assemblies also suffered likewise, even the Smok brand ones despite being some of the better to use. Granted these only cost about $1 each, those single bucks can add up after a little while. I attempted learning to rebuild this kind too, it was a very frustrating exercise in often futile results for me. They are simply far too small, tiny for me to deal with. Glad I have switched to using RDAs. I can use 3.5 mm inner diameter coils in most RDA I use and that is indeed handy.

One of the easiest rta's I've used is the ehpro bachelor. Runs around $30 from the u.s. most places or around $20 from china if you don't mind waiting a few weeks for shipping. Comes in 2 versions, a taller bachelor with 4ml capacity and shorter bachelor nano with 2ml capacity. They're 22mm tanks so should fit fine without hanging over the sides of the ipower mod. Both are single coil and they're 'postless' decks.

No tails from the coils sticking out the other side of a post, getting caught in the wick or potentially hitting the side of the chamber walls. The ends of the coil slide down into two holes until they bottom out then a small hex screw on either side tightens them up. Another perk is the way they wick. There are 2 slots in the wall of the deck at either end of the coil. Roll the cotton up, slide it through the coil and snip just past either side of the deck wall. No fluffing, no odd angular cuts to the wick tails, no tucking.

The juice flow opens up when the tank is fully screwed down to the deck, when unscrewing the tank the first thing that happens is the juice flow closes. You can remove a full tank and set it on a table or counter without it spilling in the event you want to change the wick or put a different coil in, make adjustments or whatever. No need to run the tank dry or dump it out.

I'm not sure how it compares to the tank you've been using for airflow, the bachelor is more what I'd call a moderately restricted direct lung inhale. It's not like mtl tanks but not as wide open as others. Not a cloud beast so if that's what you're looking for it won't be a great fit. Still produces sizable clouds but it has good flavor. If there's any downfalls, it can leak a little. By that I mean the top swings open to fill it and swings closed so there's a silicone gasket at the top. It doesn't screw shut. I could lay it on its side and leave it that way overnight on a regular basis with no puddles but every now and then there might be a single drop of juice around the top where the lid swings closed. Not like running down the tank or anything.

Seriously hard to screw it up, if anyone could I probably would have. The only other leaking issues I had were running coils too small in diameter and not using enough cotton. Seems to work best with 3.5mm to 4mm diameter coils. I used a 16d (16 penny) nail to wrap my coil wire around for several months before getting a coil jig. It forms a coil around 4.2mm and works well. I opted to get a coilmaster v4 jig set, runs around $17 on amazon or $11 from fasttech (china). They also have a cheaper one that's almost the same, the v3 for around $7 from china. Seems the only difference is the silicone holder for the coil rods in the v4, otherwise they look to have the same pieces.

A jig isn't necessary, just makes the coil winding easier and more consistent. Most wires can be had for a couple dollars per spool, I've never used anything fancy just ud/youde wire. Personally I tend to use 26g ss316L the most, works in both temp control and wattage mode. A single spool is usually 30ft of wire, enough for anywhere from 2-4 dozen coils depending if you twist them or not (2 pieces twisted together) for around $2-3 depending where you buy from. Something like muji organic cotton pads off amazon run $6-8 a bag for 60mm x 50mm pads (140 count). Each pad's good for 4-8 wicks. $10 worth of cotton and wire and you've got wicked coils enough to last you a year or better even if you rewick every day.

Juice is subjective based on flavor preferences. Some inexpensive places to check (u.s. based, not sure where you're from), verde valley vapes, broke dick ejuice, vapewild, mt baker vapor, the sauce la, vape moar. I'm sure there are others but those are off the top of my head. Not all are winning flavors (just being honest) but same goes for premium ejuice as well. Just as a quick comparison, a premium company like halo sells ejuice in 30ml bottles for $22. 30ml of vapewild juice runs around $7 for 30ml or less if you buy more. For instance if you buy 4 bottles (120ml) it drops to $5 for a 30ml bottle. 4x the juice for the price of halo. Vape moar sells 132ml for $20. Broke dick sells 2x 120ml bottles for $22. Depending where you shop the same $20 can get you anywhere from 30ml to 240ml of juice.

Hopefully some of that helps, it's info I didn't have right off when I started vaping. Finding good tasting ejuice is a personal journey. There are less expensive options though for both juices and wicks/coils. I was a 2pk a day smoker and smoking an inexpensive brand in literally the cheapest of all 50 states for tobacco. Vaping is easily cheaper for me so I know it can be for anyone else in the states. I'd have to vape 30ml or more a day to get close to matching or exceeding the cost of smoking (not including poor health when smoking).

If I'm not mistaken the 2 ml "nano" version has a kit available for restricted MTL vaping, but the 4 ml can't be converted for MTL air flow.
