How long do you see yourself vaping?

Recently a family friend who knew I had given up smoking asked me when I would give up vaping and nicotine all together. I honestly had never thought of it. We all know that vaping is much healthier than smoking. However the general consensus on here is that if you never smoked you shouldn't start vaping. So obviously vaping is less healthy than not vaping at all and an extra expense. Especially with new stuff coming out every month that has better abilities or flavor. So im wondering do you see yourself giving up vaping sometime? Are you dropping your nicotine mgs as you go? I personally don't see why someone would vape at 0mgs, but understand some people do and enjoy it. For me I hope one day I can vape like I smoke cigars, on special occasions for the only purpose of just enjoying it, instead of using it for the nicotine.

Anyways im interested in everyone else's thoughts. I hope this doesn't come across as anti vaping as it's not meant to. I love vaping. Just curious. Do you think in 20 years big tobacco will be small tobacco and gas stations will sell e juice? 10 or so years back i tried my first e cig and disliked it because it didnt provide a throat hit like my cigarettes but todays technology is so much better. Is it just a matter of time before vaping takes over completely?

Not if the FDA has their way, about it, but I'd like to see it happen.

As for quitting vaping, today, no desire to quit. I've reduced my nic level, partly due to better equipment, partly just because I could. Nice to know I don't have to stay where it starts me. Didn't have that much choice with cigarettes.

I started vaping like most of us did, as a way to stop smoking. I've been tobacco free for almost 2 years now and only vape 3mg of nicotine. If I had been one who never thought of it as anything more that nicotine replacement I might think about giving it up one day. I, however, have made this more like a hobby getting involved heavily into DIY, and doing as much as possible to be "self-sufficient". I'm having too much fun to think about giving it up.

As someone who tried just about everything else to quit - gum, patches, meds, cold turkey - and it was all a major fail, I'm not about to over-think quitting the only thing that finally and successfully got me off a 30 year 2 PAD smoking addiction. Haven't had a butt in coming up on six years and the only thing I plan on is keeping it that way.

Recently a family friend who knew I had given up smoking asked me when I would give up vaping and nicotine all together.

Tip: If you have a busybody know-it-all trying to run your life tell them to eff off and bark at the moon. I grew up a long time ago and don't need a babysitter, or have any desire to fulfill someone else's expectations of what would make them happy.

I never started vaping to quit cigarettes, I thought it would just allow me to get a nic-fix in places that I normally couldn't smoke, like in my office or at a bar, but after a few months, I started disliking smoking and got very sensitive to smelling it, so ended up switching without much thought or effort.

A year or two later my vaping went full blown hobbyist, and it was more power, more clouds, more flavor, etc... by that time my nic intake dropped to around 3mg from 18-24mg when I first started, but was going through 20-30 mls of juice every day or two.

Shortly after, a friend of mine turned me onto naturally extracted tobacco (NET) and that turned me back into tighter draw tanks, then eventually, I started getting into wicking stainless steel mesh in genisis tanks. I have increased my nic level back up to around 12mg, but now it takes a little over a month for me to finish off a 30ml bottle. For me, at higher nic levels, I'm way more satisfied for a much longer period of time and there are even some days that I dont even bother picking it up, but as you mentioned, I do enjoy it now more like a cigar or like an after dinner liqueur :)

I wont ever give it up, but the days of vaping throughout the day are long over for me.

I was one of the lucky ones who managed to quit in a matter of hours after smoking for 34 years. I'll be vaping until I keel over, and I've got enough of a nic stash in order to do so. I chain vape like crazy, and it took me forever to come down to 12mg/ml from 18, I probably wont go any lower. Nic has a positive effect on my ability to concentrate on tech stuff, as well as being relaxing at the same time, I do enjoy it for both reasons. I will hit 4 years smoke-free in September, and I see no negative effects whatsoever, so I will just keep on vaping on.

If the government makes it so hard and overly regulates the market for DIY liquid I might consider stopping as pre made juice is so unnecessarily expensive ....it just doesn't make it viable compared to analogues for me but I enjoy vaping much more than I did smoking health wise haven't missed smoking at all (apart from the first few weeks of giving up)

When the TPD rules come into effect in May 2017 in Europe I may well be going nic free already reduced my nic loads from when I started I'm at 2% now so getting rid of it completely isn't such a big deal ...but all this bullshit with tank sizes having to be 2ml may well prove to be a problem for a lot of people including me...they seem to be focussed on refilling and bottle sizes being a big issue, yet by reducing tank sizes to 2ml I'm having to refill more often it's a complete contradiction

If I can't vape what's the alternative if I don't want to give up? Go back to smoking I guess that's exactly what wankers in big tobacco and pharma wants hence why they lobby so hard

I can't stock up on nic etc like others do 1) don't have the space in the freezer 2) my daughter can open the freezer so I don't want her going anywhere near it always keep my gear well out of harms way on top of the cupboard

I've been vaping 6 months now. Like most here, I smoked 1-1.5 PAD for 25 years. Vaping is the only thing that has worked for me. The day I started vaping was the last day I had a cigarette.

I've fallen into the rabbit hole, as most of us here have done as well. That being said, there are times when I wish I didn't vape. I find that it takes up too much time, thought and effort. I've got other things I can, and should, be focusing on. Smoking cigarettes is effortless, no doubt about it.

During the day I vape at 5mg in tanks. After 6pm I switch to RDA's at 1mg. However, I chain vape at night so what I lack in mg I'm making up in volume. So, to answer your question, yes. I do want to stop vaping. I've stockpiled enough nicotine for 3.5 years at my current level. I really don't want to be vaping by then. However, if I am, that'll be ok. As I've told my wife for years, I don't drink, do drugs or have a girlfriend. All I have is cigarettes and coffee, my two vices. Now it's vaping and coffee. In today's world, that's not so bad.

Considering after 2 years not smoking I still use the same 60 mg nicotine per day. I did when I started vaping. I will always vape or return to smoke..... I started vaping using 20 to 24mm juice today I use 6mg ml or less.... but same 60 plus mg per day.

I don't plan to stop anytime soon, and I will continue to vape at 18mg. Eventually they'll probably ban high nicotine levels but until then I plan too vape at that level as it keeps me satisfied, I don't find any point in going to lower levels & chain vaping. Normally I go through 2ml a day, I tried 6mg in a 30ml bottle with a cleito & it lasted two days.
Mtl & high nicotine is & has been the way for me since I started vaping.

I never started vaping to quit smoking, I started vaping to try it out.

When I found that I liked it and realized that I no longer smelled like cigarettes, I never thought of cigarettes again.

My point is, I am a smoker who found something better than a cigarette (IMHO). Quitting was never a thought and still isn't.

I suppose it would be best to quit at some point, but it's not something I care to even bother with right now.

I started to quit tobacco. It worked. I stopped tobacco completely the day I started vaping. I kind of enjoy it now, screwing around with the gear and such. I'm starting to do some diy as well. I find that even at 3mg, a little nicotine goes a long way towards managing my mental instability. So as far as self medicating and being reasonably stable, I've no plans to quit at this point.

This exactly. Vaping is a REPLACEMENT. If you remove the replacement, then the thing you're replacing comes back. And nicotine is more beneficial than harmful, particularly for older adults, a group I seem to be entering with alarming speed. Anyone who still considers nicotine the greatest evil since EVER, is merely ignorant and parroting the group-think of all the control-freak smoke nazis.

That said... *sigh* As an asthmatic, I do have to consider that I actually would be better off without vaping, IF it didn't mean the return of smoking. With the nasty cold I'm currently enduring, I'm seeing that my "addiction" has decreased dramatically; as a smoker, a cold would mean nothing except a whole lot of pneumonia-sounding coughing and yarking, but no decrease in the amount that I smoked, but I find that I'm not vaping much at all, since I can't actually *taste* my vape -- I'm in my THIRD day on my current LG HE2, and it's barely half used. So, the day might one day arrive in which I might seriously consider giving up vaping... or at the very least, giving it up as a regular activity, and just keeping it as an occasional treat. I really can't say for sure.

As for what becomes of vaping in the future.... The truth remains true, no matter what anyone says about it. Vaping will remain at least 95% safer than smoking, so I feel reasonably confident it will endure, and smoking continue to decrease. Beyond that, I really have no idea. Humans are always surprising.

I don't see myself quitting vaping though that's what I said about cigs too. I swore I'd smoke til the day I died but that was back when I could smoke and still function.

Once the coughing became chronic and extended well past just a brief 'smokers cough' in the mornings to something that negatively impacting my life I had no choice really. Coughing fits were causing brief blackouts from time to time (at least once a week), had trouble talking for any length of time, couldn't laugh without a fit coming on, my throat hurt like hell and my abdominal muscles felt like I got used for a punching bag day in and day out.

Vaping became an alternative and so far my coughing fits subsided. Throat doesn't feel like raw hamburger, no blackouts, can laugh and hold conversations like a normal human being. The way I feel now I'd say I'll continue to vape indefinitely. If that changes then I'll deal with that fork in the road when it happens. Never say never I suppose.

I'd hate to give it up because I do enjoy it and though in the past year since I started vaping I've reduced from 18mg to 3-6mg as I switched from mtl to dl I'm not on any particular journey to get to 0 nic. I guess for the same reason I still drink reg coffee instead of decaf. :p

Yes, its an incredible replacement at that, especially if you look at all the other failed replacements that were tired and never really worked. However, if vaping was taken away from me today and there was no way to bring it back by any means, I still find it really unlikely that I would take up smoking again. First off, I cant stand the smell of it anymore, in the air and on a person after they smoke, so it would actually be something that I would have to put effort at getting used to again. Secondly, I probably had a throat infection and/or flu maybe once in the past 4 years, whereas it was normal to get strep throat or a lingering flu at least 2-3 times a year.

Lastly, feels like a huge freebie that I was able to kick an incredibly difficult addiction without even trying to do it, so I would feel incredibly stupid going through the same path again with cigarettes knowing that something as simple as vaporizing flavored glycerin would be very difficult to replace with something just as effective.

Unfortunately, I'm pretty sure that I would at some point succumb once again to cigarettes. I say this because when I had my dual-use relapse after 4.5 months off cigarettes, it took only about 2 days before I was every bit as hooked as before I quit... and because even now, after nearly 3 yrs smoke-free, I still have the occasional thought of smoking. Those thoughts never progress to full-on cravings, because I have vaping as a replacement... but if I didn't have vaping...? Pretty sure the cigarettes would make a comeback. :(

I guess it has become a bit of a hobby to me as well. Although I am trying to taper down (not look at new stuff on the market). The other day I looked at everything I had and was a bit overwhelmed. Not saying that is a bad thing but I saw all the mods I have sitting around and said to myself "why do I need all of these". Cigarettes were a lot less noticeable (if you dont count the smell). I had a few packs at all times but they were put away with one pack in my pocket. I certainly dont miss reaching into my pocket and finding a crushed pack. My kitchen counter now has probably around 20 bottles of juice sitting out. My mods all tell a story of where I was at in my vaping knowledge. I dont think id go back to cigarettes if i quit. Ive made the mistake too many times of quitting and thinking I have control and someone offers me one and repeating the whole process again.

I'd prefer to live to maybe 85ish. But, if I ever get a terminal diagnosis before that age, cigarettes, booze, and all the other fun stuff is gonna make a big comeback. :giggle:

20 years. If I make it to 70. I'm gonna smoke a pipe and hit Jack Daniels again :D

I'll turn 76 in about two months, so there is no point to quitting vaping now.

I was at an AA meeting last night. (so no Jack Daniels for me) I think I saw about every box mod/RTA combination ever imagined, and there wasn't a single smoker in the crowd.
What surprised me was none of them were into DIY , and some admitted to spending up to $20/day for juice.

Damn I wish the AA meetings were like that, here. They have a sign in the Gwinnett Room: "No smoking, and that includes e-cigarettes!" Fuckheads. Which probably tells you why I've gone to exactly one meeting since I started vaping.

Vaping and a nice peach optimo. Gutted and rolled with my favorite Buds here n there and I'm a happy man. Im in California so the flowers I smoke will make you an astronaut in the next Interstellar movie

But yea never. Maybe 0 Mg one day but I gotta be puffin something. Only way keep keep me off cigareetes.

I'll never stop vaping, or eliminate nicotine.
If the worse were to happen, I'd go back to cigs.

I learned long ago that nicotine helps my anxiety and temper.

I don't know how much really. But, I do know I carry my addictive behavior everyday. I still tell my wife I want a keg of Guinness Stout on my death bed. :giggle:

This August will be the 25th sobriety anniversary for both me and my husband. We're planning to mark the momentous occasion by driving up to Anderson, SC, on Aug 21 (his sobriety date -- mine's the 14th) to see the total eclipse, directly in the path of totality. Probably the last one in our lifetimes, so it seems a good way to mark something as momentous as this.

Without sobriety, we'd have none of what we have; I don't know about him, but I wouldn't be alive.

As for vaping... I'm not addicted to nicotine; going from 10mg to 3mg was like falling off a log; the only reason I went ahead and lowered it from 5mg to 3mg was to make my nic stash last longer. Given that both Alzheimers and senile dementia run in my family, I'm going to continue nicotine use forever; even if I quit vaping, I'll then stick patches to myself. But addicted to nicotine? Hah. I drink 2-3 cups of caffeine tea daily, and I'm more addicted to that than I am to nicotine.

If I stop vaping, I'll go back to smoking. Nothing to do with the nicotine; everything to do with the behavior. When you do something for 39 yrs, it doesn't go away. Maybe you're addicted to nicotine, but I'm not. Nicotine without all the other junk isn't anymore addictive than caffeine, or else all those folks who've participated in trials of nicotine for this or that would start jonesing for a smoke or a patch or piece of gum when the trial is done -- but they don't.

No plans to quit vaping for me, it's my insurance against a smoking relapse.
I've eliminated nicotine some 2-3 yrs ago just to show myself that I could, but as Andria said nicotine [w/o the rest of the junk contained in cigarettes] is very easy to drop..

Yes, that other stuff is a great deal more addictive -- weaning off WTA took 15 months, and was very difficult, every step of the way. Decreasing nicotine has been NOTHING like that.

It's also quite humorous to suggest that a person who's been in recovery from alcoholism for nearly 25 yrs, and in recovery from hard-drug addiction for 29 yrs, doesn't know what addiction or denial is. Very amusing indeed. :giggle:
