Hey everyone. I'm trying to figure out how to make a creamy custard not like the Capella's vanilla custard that we all love but more like a pudding custard. I'm trying to make a blueberries and cream and I can't get the cream just right.
Thanks for any help.

Damn that's expensive. I'm sure I'll get it anyway. Thanks Teresa.

Worth every penny... ;)
Vaperstek used to sell 2ml samples of flavoring, that's how I tried several of theirs. The cost was minimal, especially compared to the risk of buying a full bottle and ending up not caring for it. I just didn't like paying for priority shipping, ended up costing more than all the samples.

Single flavor 5%. In mixes of course, it's a matter of taste.

I can't get the cream just right.

Which Creams have you tried so far?

Mixing Vanilla+Cream helps but really depends on the brands and amounts IMO.
Or use less Vanilla Custard, like 1-2%, mixed in with cream.
Several different creams can also be mixed together.
Add 1% FA Meringue + 1% FA Marshmallow for some sweetness and body.
Even Vanilla Bean Ice Cream might work.
Fruits can cover up the creams pretty easily, for me anyway.
Or should I say, some have more trouble tasting creams.

I could never get Vanillin to do very much for me, thinking you need something stronger.
INW Shisha Vanilla, INW Vanilla Bourbon, FA Vanilla Classic, or CAP French Vanilla.

Vienna Cream isn't sweet or creamy enough for me either.
1-2% FA Fresh Cream might be better, although it's not sweet either.
TFA Dairy Milk, CAP Sweet Cream, and FW Milk are sweeter IMO.
(3% TFA Vanilla Swirl + 1-2% CAP Sweet Cream is a good combo)
Yogurts are a type of "Dairy" also...

Not really a fan of Bavarian, I'd drop it completely, or lower to 1%.

I didn't have it in at first but added later. I really like caps Bavarian and figure it will mellow the Vienna out. I thought I heard someone say that Vienna cream was more like American custard but maybe they were talking a something else.

Lol. If they add the confetti maybe it'll be worth it.

Inw shisha vanilla to me is exactly like a cool creamy pudding. It might not be "thick" enough so might want to add tfa vanilla custard.

Im confused why Caps VC is everybodys go to custard. I personally dont believe its that good at all and im sure premium juice makers dont use caps. Theres many Grants vanilla custard clones and most say Caps custard with ddl and that is NOTHING like Grants. Im gonna do an experiment and purchase tons of small samples of custards and mix at 7.5% to see who truly is king custard. I wonder if somebody else has already done this and posted the results online. Anybody know of side by side diy custard flavorings compared to each other?

Well, the hard thing about that comparison will be that taste is subjective. What is king for you may not be for anyone else. I was the same way about cap's custard(s) but I found in my case it was because of two things. I was using too much of it, and I was very impatient. It will drown out other subtle flavors if you're not careful, and if you try it too soon you get the chemical taste everyone complains about. For me, a couple of weeks steep at no more than 4% in a mix with other flavors makes it pretty damn nice... But that's just me.

Totally agree. You cant judge a custard until steeped for at least a month. Im vaping a custard now that is two years old. I mix caps at 5% as a base for many of my recipes. I dont believe premium juice makers mix much higher then that. You see many recipes with insanely high %'s but the key is steeping with a lower percentage. Im in the process of buying many off brand custards to mix at 5% and then do a side by side. Taste is subjective but since im only making it for myself im not concerned what anyone else thinks. Is caps your favorite custard? What others have you tried? Thanks!

Admittedly I've only tried both of cap's and FA's custard. I like v1 better than v2, and FA is a different animal; more of a lemony taste but good. I've got a few in queue for my next order, always willing to keep learning. However, I've been using cap v1, and once I got used to using it and letting it age it became a bit more appealing. I rarely use it at more than 4% anymore and I've found it works best (for me) with other flavors complimenting it.. I try to think of it as a rich filler.

TFA Vanilla Custard reminds me of TFA Vanilla Bean Ice Cream.
More Vanilla than Custard IMO.
I get the same thing with INW Custard.
Well at least when compared to CAP v1 anyway.
I've found using lower amounts of CAP than many others use also works better for me.

I mix a 100ml bottle with 40% caps vc (very concentrated!) so as to have it steeped and ready to go to put in other mixes. That way all i need do is add 5ml of the 40%mix to 35ml of vg or pg to make a 40 ml mix thats 5% vc. and other flavorings ive added: usually a cream or what have you. Im in the process of testing several creams side by side as well by mixing 2-5% cream without nic so as to taste all the creams on their own.

Is there really a difference in this two year old custard versus that same custard at say 3 or 4 months? Assuming you sampled it over the two year period.

That particular custard got lost in the shuffle but i assume it would have been the same at 4 months out. What surprised me is that it was still vapeable at the 2 year mark because other flavors in the same hidden stash were nasty.

Admittedly I havent bought any juice in over two years now but in the UK I am certain the vast majority of vendors were using Caps Custard, just from the smell. I do really like Caps custard but I will go through phases of vaping a tonne of it and then get sick of it and not touch it again for months. I like FA Custard but it really isnt like custard to me. To my tastebuds Vanilla Classic is very much the taste of a vanilla custard without the cream. Flavorah Custard is a nice very neutral custard with a light eggy taste and Inawera Custard is a really strong full bodied custard but needs a good 3 weeks to come alive. Personally I am not a fan of all these custard using ny cheesecake and/or DDL. One of the custard I really liked was an old one on here called "Very Vanilla Custard" by Curly or something to that effect, I remember it had Caps Custard, Vienna Cream and Vanilla Classic as some of the ingredients. I do think going down a Caps Custard and/or Inw Custard + Cream + a vanilla flavouring like Vanilla Classic and/or Inw Shisha Vanilla is a good starting point. I did post a custard recipe on here ages ago, called Flustard I think, used just about every custard I could think of. One that needs an eternity to steep and weird results. I could vape on it one minute and it tasted awesome and then an hour later pretty dull, dont know if it was too much flavouring or just not stable but I gave up at that point reaching the sick of custard phase I still not quite out of again.

According to a few sources from just about every diy site with a forum, cuttwood uses caps flavors... specifically for Unicorn milk. I'm one of those that swears by caps vc v1 it is my favorite custard.

That is the one, he had a few good recipes from what I remember. There was also a doughnut that was pretty much bronuts with caps doughnut rather than chocolate doughnut way before bronuts. I expect some of his recipes look pretty standard now, at the time when I started they were quite innovative though. Funny looking at it it has DDL in though, I forgot that haha
