Coil is garbage after two days?

NickDalton

Member For 4 Years
So I've been vaping this stky juice since I got it. It's a 30 ml bottle and I've vaped over half the bottle and I bought this coil the same day which was the 11th how the hell is it already bad? Like it's really bad. My coil is best at 65 and I've been vaping at 60. Been letting it cool down and everything. Legit pissed right now. I mean I've got another that I've rinsed out with water so the cotton is white again but it's not dry it's still sitting in water. Like the hell?

2 days is about average wick life for me after 3 years of vaping. . That's why I switched to RBA 2.75 years ago. My coils now last months if I chose.. wicks still 2 days.

How exactly does an RBA work? I can't pay 5 dollars every two days for a coil. Vaping is supposed to be cheaper than smoking. At this rate it's not. I go through a ton of juice and apparently now coils. They were lasting about a week sometimes a week and half. Maybe it's because this juice is sweet? I don't know.

Vaping is cheaper then smoking but if you go into hobbyist level of clouds it cost more. A coil that uses under 30 watts will last a week to a month depending how you vape. Higher watts will take a toll on your cotton wicking so maybe you should buy a tank that can use a RTA which all you do is change out the cotton which is cheap to buy.

RBA. Rebuildable atomizer....... here referee to as RDA dripper or the tanks RDTA and RTA.... these are atomizers with user built and installed coils. Wick are easily replaced and coil cleaned when dirty.

Smok baby beast. I like clouds and flavor. If I don't get good clouds and it doesn't taste good I lose interest for some reason.

What tanks do you have now, because they may sell a RTA kit for one of them.

I believe there is an RBA head available for that tank....

Me i would go with something like serpent alto, ammit or avocado22... I have the avocado22.. flavor is great and clouds also. Note I vape at 25watts or less. and prefer single coil builds.

All
Those i listed will vape at higher wattages..... I just don't do higher than 25 because I hate changing and charging batteries and I don't like having to carry extra juice or batteries.

I use the big baby beast with the rta that comes with it almost exclusively. Good flavor and vapor production. Once you get the wicking down it's quick and easy to rewick.

I was going to recommend the Big Baby Beast, too. Also the Cloud Beast. Both are rebuildable and I, myself, use the RBA on the Cloud Beast exclusively (as opposed to the factory coils). I don't use any tanks anymore that use factory coils -- I love building/rebuilding!

Yeah I'm definitely gonna switch to either that or an RDA. I can't spend all that money on coils. I mean do you ever really need more wire? And a pack of cotton bacon lasts you about how long?

Wire is usually inexpensive and can last a long time and same goes for cotton. If I only had one or two mods my wire and cotton would last weeks but I have 8 or 9 mods so it doesn't last nearly as long. Still, I prefer it for every good reason to factory coils.

Yeah. Sounds like it's a way better way to go. So now I just gotta choose. RDA or RDTA? Haha

RDA means dripping regularly. RDTA is more like a regular tank, as you fill it with liquid instead of dripping.

Awesome. Thanks for the info! I might actually end up going with an RDTA unless I'm over filling this RDA spits a lot of juice.

I just got my first RDTA the other day (Aromamizer RDTA V2) and I love it. I'm used to RDAs, RTAs and RBAs and I like it just as much. It's really easy to get to the build deck and it's just as easy to fill with eliquid.

Is there anything I can do about the spitting juice with the RDA? And does an RDTA spit juice too?

My RDTA doesn't have spit-back. As far as your RDA goes, it could be the way you wicked it that it isn't saturating the wick appropriately and the juice is just sitting on top, waiting for you to inhale it into your mouth. Or it could be the way you're dripping. I like to "paint" the eliquid moderately on top of the coil and wick -- not too much, not too little. And I vape it until I get no more flavor and drip again.

I just do like 6-8 drips in a circle motion inside the mouth piece. Is that wrong? Haha

Make sure the eliquid is getting to the wick and saturating it (especially in the middle of the coil). If not, you might want to take the cap off and drip that way. Also, make sure there is enough cotton but not too much. Too much cotton will not absorb the eliquid appropriately, and too little cotton will probably not give an enjoyable hit.

Well. I decided to grab a coil I rinsed out under the sink and I'm using my baby beast again. The RDA was trying to hit at 4.80 ohms. So instead of potentially blowing my face off I decided to switch to something I know. All the high end stuff like RDAs, RBAs, RDTAs scare me still haha.

I was cautious when I first started learning about building coils and putting them in my RDAs (etc.), too. If you still want to learn about it I recommend searching on YouTube for videos on building coils and how to put them into your RDA and how to properly wick it. I recommend starting with micro coils.

Just buy the RTA coil for the baby beast and never buy another regular coil. Wire and cotton are cheap.

I would urge caution with buying a Baby Beast rta. I love my Baby Beasts and have been looking forward to buying the rta so I can build my own coils. However, I have run into a problem with my Big Baby Beast rta and have since discovered that it's a quite common issue that many others have found. It shorts out and will not be useable sometimes because of the way the base of the rta, where it fits into the bottom of the tank, is designed. Some people have found that sanding it down on the sides helps, others have found that using masking tape helps. I don't want to keep going through the same frustrations I went through earlier today, though, so I don't think I'll be buying any more BB rtas.

I do have an OBS Engine rta and I absolutely love it. Building coils for it and wicking it is so easy even a dumbass dork like me can do it. I really, REALLY want to get a couple more, now. :)

I have had the same problem with my Beast tanks shorting or reading too low of ohms (when it isn't too low), be it the Baby or Big Baby or even the Cloud Beast. Still, I like the RBAs when they do work and vape on them regularly.

One more thing -- I don't think that the RBA works with the Baby Beast, only Big Baby or Cloud Beast tanks.

They make an rba for the BB, as well as the BBB. :) Different units but they make 'em.

IMO the best bet as far as cost and convenience is to get a Pharaoh RTA and a pack of prebuilt staple staggered fused Clapton coils. Super easy to rewick a single exotic coil. Gives the cloud production of a multi coil build. A pack of 10 coils costs $12 and will last a year.

$50-$60 for a year of high quality vaping.

I really like the pharaoh and the Griffin 25 plus. MyFreedonSmokes has all of the geekvape products 20% off right now.
I ordered 2 avocado 24 RTA and a peerless. Great price.

The code is either geek20 or 20geek.

Enjoy

The pic of cotton that theclaw20 posted is what I use, works pretty well. Even for bigger coils 3.5-4mm inner diameter each piece of cotton easily makes 4 wicks. It's muji organic cotton, unbleached and 180 pads in a pack from amazon runs under $6. That's almost two years of wicking for a single coil or 1yr of wicking for dual coil builds.

Most of the time the factory coils don't go bad as in the coil itself isn't burnt out. The integrated cotton wick either burns or gets gunked up or flavor changes of juice cause a nasty mix that never quite goes away. Something a simple changing of the wick would correct and start fresh but because there's no easy way to rewick a factory coil head the whole works gets pitched and yes it's expensive.

Rinsing it in water doesn't seem to work for me. Some people boil them, rinse with vodka, have some sort of cleaning ritual but imho there's no replacement for a fresh clean wick. Seems once a wick goes funky, that's all she wrote. Most of my coils are simple twisted coils with 2 strands of stainless 316L then wrapped on a coilmaster v4 jig (easier than using nails or drill bits).

If you're not big into building more complex stuff they sell it premade like what theclaw20 showed a pic of. Some folks build nice custom coils like raymo2u. They charge a bit more, I think somewhere around $10-15 a coil or something but you get nice coils that are tested, built well and should last months with a bit of rinsing and dry firing to clean them. I got into rta's and diy coils for the same reason, premade coils are expensive. Sometimes you get a dud that something goes wrong with it in a couple days and it's like oh well, try another. A bit pricey when they're close to $8 a coil head.

Depending which route you go with diy, you can either go simple and it can be really cost effective or you can go all out fancy with everything and really sink some money into it.
