Ladies and gentlemen, how you fight against the side effect of quiting smoking?

I had a wicked sinus infection when I started vaping. So bad I couldn't taste the juice I was buying. I had them twice a year when I was smoking. Haven't had another in 18 months of vaping. Never had the cough from switching.

I did...until I found out how to Direct Lung. That pretty much put an end to my coughing fits, until I occasionally hit a juice that's a little off for me, or my coils need changing lol

Well yeah. And I was also coughing hundreds of times a day from smoking. There's no surprises there when someone who has been smoking for years or decades - and coughing - has the very same issue while switching to vaping.

If it's a real problem you just have to lay off the lung inhaling for the first few months while your lungs are settling down from all the damage done from all that smoking.

I coughed pretty good at first. Smoking had me coughing bad, not just a clearing of the throat 'smokers' cough but like bad enough to cause me to black out when it got real bad. My throat was irritated from wicked coughing and my sinuses were giving me fits. Initially vaping made me choke, worse than cigs. Can even remember thinking to myself 'damn, this is the alternative?'.

It was an adjustment period and coming from smoking I expected it to be like smoking. It's just not, similar maybe but it's not entirely the same. Not for me anyway. Unless it was really restricted I found mtl difficult. Even narrow bores on things like cigalikes they're still open holes. It's different from the resistance of a filter/tobacco. Even now I can't really mtl on much beyond a restricted clearomizer. I've tried on kayfun's, I can sort of get away with it on the lowest air setting on a kayfun v3 mini or v4. V5? Forget it, even on the tightest draw settings it's too airy.

Anymore I direct lung inhale. I got an rta that said it was good for both and could be used either way, ie turn the airflow down really tight and use it mtl. Didn't work for me, too airy, too wide of a chimney and drip tip. Necessity being the mother of invention and all I adjusted and learned how to direct lung inhale.

On the bright side the coughing subsided within a few days and within a week or two the horrible cough I had when smoking was gone. My breathing improved, sinus issues went away.

Smoking aided coughing fits in me which brought black yucky tar out of my lungs. I would seemingly vomit although it was gunk being projected from my lungs. Did this around every three to six months for about a week off and on.

Vaping when I started and now usually first drag or few I might cough from a bit of overbearing flavor or the first kick of nicotine. Went through about three days of what has been dubbed vaper's flu. Got sick and expelled a lot of toxins out of my body by coughing stuff up, defecating & urinating it out, sweating.

No more vaper's flu and no more coughing up gunk. I cough yes but it is the clearing your throat kind of cough, the gentle catching the breath full of air cough. I do a bit of both MTL & DL, not really a cloud or flavor chaser, enjoy the vaping for the sake of vaping over smoking. :)

I find switching the width of the drip tip makes a difference when the occasional cough impulse comes back. After I started using wider bore ones, like with the tfv8, I will cough when vaping the Herakles Plus with its long narrow tip.

I cough, or feel like I need to if I haven't vaped in a while, or first hit of the day. After a few pulls it's smooth. It's only been a week since my last cig, I'm sure that has something to do with it, but already breathing better and no more waking up with a coughing fit feeling smothered, fuk smoking never going back.

I had a persistent cough from smoking. The little kind of cough as in trying to clear my throat. I started MTL, coughed the first couple of days and it stopped. As did my persistent cough. What a relief.
Same with me.

I went from cigarettes to dip for a couple years to vaping. So no coughing. Lungs have healed.

Everybody I have turned on to vaping straight from smokes coughed like crazy though.

I switched from Cigarettes to DTL and was ok from the start. Not coughing from the vape. Been off cigarettes for about 1 year.

Been vaping on mostly RDAs on coils ohming out at 0.25 to 0.5 most of the time. Enjoying DTL.

Got curious with MTL recently and was wondering why this way of vaping is causing me to cough. 1.3ohms on a Digiflavor Siren, 6mg juice and even 3mg will make me cough from time to time.

Thoughts?

I smoked for 30 yrs. I started vaping june 2014 and have not smoked since. Doc says lungs sound great. only problem I had was I won a GX350 with Cloud Beast tank. Everyone said to set between 80 to 120 watts. I tried 80 with huge clouds, and I started coughing, and thats something I never do. I sat it down and went back with my Cleito and cough went away. Im 65 so I guess I just cant make the big clouds, and don't need to. Hope this may help someone.

When I started vaping in August of 2012 there were no such things as mods that went over 15 watts and no sub ohm tanks so I started with a "vape pen" type device and the whole MTL thing didn't make me cough.

I just hit it like it was a joint and I was all good.

I moved up to a vamo and a protank then I bought newer stuff until I was sub ohming like a year after starting.
I think the fact that I very slowly eased into it helped.

Now a new vaper walks into a shop and leaves with a Smok Alien and a Cloud Beast so they are at full throttle the first day.
That would make anyone cough.

I never coughed when I smoked, strangely enough. But I did cough for about 3 weeks when I switched to vaping. My doctor told me it's because cigarette smoke contains anesthetics (added by cigarette makers to take away the roughness), while vapor does not.

I also had a host of other health issues that were strictly due to tobacco cessation, which felt weird because I didn't feel like I had quit. They're long gone now, thankfully.

Oh I coughed up black and brown shit for a few weeks but it wasn't from inhaling vapor it was my body expelling 20 years of tar.

All my vaping has been below 15w, so Im no cloud chaser.
As the damage from decades of smoking faded away, my coughing did too.
At first, I could feel a relationship between amount vaped to that cough tickle, but that seems to be fading now.
Im sure there would be a wattage/cloudsize that would trigger a serious cough, but Im happy where I am.

Been doing this for a couple of days. What I figured out works for me was to cut nicotine to 6 or less with a 30 pg to 70 vg blend. Then I adjusted the air flow on my Smoks and hit them trying to produce about as much vape on the exhale as I did smoke with ciggs instead of trying to produce vape like a fog machine at a concert. First hit of the day or first on a fresh filled tank will make me hack or almost hack. I noticed if I fill the tank and let it sit a few minutes before hitting it that reduces the cough, also bumping the power button instead of a constant press helps. I figure alot of this is just going to be trial and error until I find out exactly what works best for me.

I coughed continuously from smoking. Vaping never made me cough. But now that I've been a non-smoking vaper for nearly 3 yrs, coughing is a bigger problem than it used to be, because there isn't a gallon of phlegm in my lungs anymore; it's a very dry cough, so it's harder to cough up. And since I have asthma, coughing up is necessary anytime I wheeze, which is pretty much every few hours.

The "masking" chemicals that BT puts into cigarette tobacco to enable people to continue smoking without feeling most of the negative side effects, kept me from feeling the full symptoms of my asthma. Now that those chemicals are gone, my asthma may be better off, but I feel it more.
