Disclaimer :: This Hohm Tech Slice was purchased and received on March 8,2017.

Well, I must say that I'm not very impressed with the Hohm Tech Slice MOD exterior finish since I purchased it. This MOD gets very very little usage, as it has been strictly a backup usage only MOD and has received maybe a total of 8-12 hours of usage since I purchased it. My go to MOD is my LV Therion DNA MOD, with the Hohm Wrecker and SMOK Alien as my secondary go to devices.

With that said, I'll let the pictures show the rest. However, what does concern me is the warranty statement about their product. I will say that I have not contacted them yet, but that will be my next email once I've posted this.

LIMITATIONS OF COVERAGE:
Hohm Tech provides a non-transferable warranty to the purchaser of a Hohm Tech product purchased from an authorized Hohm Tech reseller. This repair agreement does not cover any accessories used on or in conjunction with the product itself. Furthermore, the repair agreement does not cover misuse, user error, tampering, or improper care. This includes but not limited to: water damage, liquid damage, unauthorized modification or customization of original product. Stripped threads, wear to finish, or any physical wear and/or damage is not applicable or covered in the Warranty Agreement.

This is more a manufacturing defect, no different that the SMOK Alien MODs have. The paint simply comes off while holding it in your hand. In the case of the Hohm Slice, it is coming off from the battery door, and not the plastic housing. The battery door is made of a metal and is not holding the paint well.

One (I have multiple) of my SMOK Alien MODs next to the Hohm Slice.

As the pictures show, this MOD has not been abused AT ALL. This is a simple defect in the paint quality that Hohm Tech has chosen to use.

I will be reaching out to Hohm Tech Warranty department with a link to this post and the attached pictures requesting them to replace this MOD. I will follow-up / document further responses from them.

For the record --- I am still using and LOVE my Hohm Wrecker. My only complaint with it, is the "box" design and "fugly" appearance. Other than that, it is a rock solid MOD so far.

well there is another solution if they dont replace it...get a wrap. Paint finishes peel or scratch. It sucks that on a pricier mod that finish peels off that easily. Hope you get it sorted

Its hard to get a paint to stick to smooth metal...to do a proper finish would require sanding then a primer then more sanding then at least 2 to 3 coats of paint.

Its like painting on a piece of smooth plastic..its just too easy to chip and scrape or peel off.

Id finish removing the paint and either do a proper paint job or just wrap it up.

Unfortunately, the Slice paint issues are well documented here. Check out my garden tool.

Tbh, even with the paint issues I just love the chip and form factor. I own one in every color @SirRichardRear except Teal. Lol.

Yeah the paint on my red Slice's batt door went first, too. The rest of it is slowly catching up. Tiny bubbles form under the paint, eventually becoming big enough to lose cohesion and flake off. It's lasted longer than my first Alien's paint, but the end result will be the same. Main difference is that I still use my Slice daily. Alien? Hardly ever.
Just tell yourself you payed for the FSK chip, and the shell is just a temporary home for it. Build yourself a squonker. That's my plan.

The paint/finish on the G2 sucks too. Doesn't matter though. It's CNCd out of a hunk of aluminum so it's (reasonably) unbreakable. The chip works better than my DNA200/133s and outdated both of them about 10x over...probably alot more than that if you count the months that evolv had either mod and still never could fix. I think I sent them both off 3 times. The G2 can now do 181w and has always been able to fire any build with a 30a limit.
I do realize that the paint issue sucks and the G2 and Slice don't have the same body but with the chips longevity, functionality, power and the mods price point ($60 for the LE G2 BNIB) I'd buy either mod with no paint at all and skin it.

I've had a g1 since the beginning, 3 or 4 g2s and 3 slices (I think) with none having paint issues. I've dropped my first g2 a, few times on concrete and the paint still didn't chip. I've dropped a slice a couple times with no paint issues. Guess I'm lucky.

Yeah, that's the first time I heard of paint issues with the G2. All of mine still look brandie new and I'm pretty rough on my mods.

My battery door wore off where my fingers/palms touch it. Within a week of so it started but I never gave a damn. The rest of the mod is in great shape and it's been dropped a time or six.
I think it was just some runs of the newest G2 or possibly just the LE.

Couple of things...

The g2 (and I presume the original) are anodized, not painted. Anodizing, at least with titanium, and it may be completely different from aluminum (the anodizing process is very different), is a matter of the way light reflects off the surface. With titanium there's no color dye or anything but an applied specific voltage to achieve the preferred color. Aluminum otoh, uses dye in the process. Someone else will know for sure, but I believe it was explained to me, in *seriously* lay terms, that electricity is used to open "pores" on the surface, then dye is absorbed from there. I can FEEL someone correcting me as they read this.

A squonker fsk mod? Oh HELLS yes! I'll buy the housing if it was quality. Make it run on 20700's and I'll wash your carpets, cat AND your wife! Wait, skip that last one. Probably not an incentive.

Lastly, I love the look of the well used mods with tons of missing paint! My white alien has a far better finish than my gf's black alien. I was really jealous when hers started getting beat to shit. I bought her a Benchmade knife a while back and her blade and pocket clip are beat on. My knives look new! Love that woman. Oh sorry, back to vaping!

The g2 uses a porous aluminum and its anodized.
Missed this. Mike got to it before me.

Forgot to mention... I know this thread isn't about the g2, but it may relate to the Slice. Don't count on HT's claims to toughness. I had completely forgotten about those claims and didn't think it was that big a deal when BOTH contacts broke after a 2' slide off my pants and onto the black top. It wasn't 'till I emailed them to find out about replacement parts that I remembered the stuff about the toughness. They replied in surprise that it could have actually been such a short trip to the ground. They did admit that the contacts have broken more twice in the g2.

Not sure if there are any claims that the Slice is particularly tough, but I wouldn't count on it.

Guess I've been lucky. I've dropped all mine and have not issues with any of them. I didn't even break a glass on the rta and one went rolling across the concrete from 5 feet up.

I was really surprised.

Yeah I've beat the ever loving shit out of my Slice a d G2. They still work. In fact I just sent my Slice out to get polished down to bare metal. The guy I sent it to just doesn't know it yet. Well, maybe now he does. Lol.

Nice, call it the Chrome slice, lol. Had the g2 for less than a week and love it, would kill for a squonker with that chip.

Was laughing as i strolled through old threads and found this one..i just got my hohm slice (long time and many distractions but i had to have that chip..) and as i noticed all the fine new white scratches on my three day old Slice i kept thinking..what this thing needs is to be gutted and the guts stuck right into the chassy of an Aegis....i think thats my perfect mod..fsk in a beast of a basher mod..but i still need a tank/rta that has check valves on the in and out flow holes..which waz what i had expected would be geekvapes logical next move after the Aegis..
