WIHA diagonal cutters anyone who owns those

Hi
I am having difficulty to choose the correct flush cutters, I think I need something looking like those Wiha 32760 ESD Safe Precision Flush Cutting Mini Diagonal Cutters 5.25"

32760__45616.1477336967.jpg

But as one reviewer noted:

"they are not ground flush on the cutting side. There is a slight bevel on the blades"

And not every product at WIHA online store has good reviews....
Obviously I need so called ground flush. How to find those in this mess.

Appreciate any advice

Thanks.

P.S. I have some cheap ones crowing from Fasttech via snail mail.

^That. I've got a few years on mine as well as use them occasionally for trimming other wire if I don't have a better pair of dikes handy and they still work fine. Think I gave like $4 for them.

I can see that they are most popular and probably perfect for a single wire, but about fancy ones or thicker wire like triple twisted 28 AWG or parallel Claptons.
They also don't have a flush ground cut, leaving 1.5mm stand off.

Using occasionally, hm. What about every day use?

I have ProsKit PK-501A Diagonal Cutting Plier in the mail (ordered other things and got those as carpool), now I am looking for high quality and heavy duty ones. I don't mind to pay for quality.

This is just me, but I prefer not to shop in Walmart for political reasons.

Yes. Part of my job is in IT and making cables is a thing, occasionally.

But, anyhow... I didn't spend much on my flush cutters for building because 99% of the time, they live in a small bag with some wire, microscrewdrivers, small scissors, a coiling rod, angled tweezers, ceramic tweezers, and a baggie of cotton pads. They cut fused claptons fine and doubt they'd struggle with an alien, etc. Ymmv.

Thanks for reassurance and quick reply.
Is that 1.5mm stand off not so significant? Some tanks are so tight (single coil with end wires facing RBA top walls) that leaving some wire sticking out from the polls could lead to short circuit. I usually twist and break solid wires in this situation, but I am moving into fancy builds and this technique would not work so well. That is the main reason for ground flush cutters with zero stand off.

I didn't have any issues with my original Serpent Mini which has the barrel notoriously close to the posts and requires the leads to be cut almost flush. On my cutters, one side is flush and the other has the 1.5mm bevel.

I looked to see if there was any branding or a part # on them but there isn't so it must have worn off over the last few years. However, they look identical to the ones Joey posted.

If we ever are in the same area, I would like to buy you a beer specifically for this post.

I just got Serpent Mini 25mm (yours is 22mm) for my single coil portable tanks, so this is one of those I was worried. I just use it for the first time and got strange leak - I filled it (top fill) to the top with closed air holes, opened air holes and juice gushed out from air holes till the level lowered down a bit and then stopped. Now no leak at all.
What the hell was that? Everything looks tight, I used supplied/included twisted coil (single deck) just to get the feeling of that tank. I am planning to put that juice in the other tank (checking new juices), because in Serpent flavor quality is disgusting, maybe something else went wrong....

I definitely will consider those cutters, but after I get Fasttech ones as they are about the same. Does Hakko CHP-170 (posted by joeyboy) are spring loaded, which seems to be a convenient feature?

Sounds like you either lost vaccuum when you were filling and reestablished it after some juice dumped or your wicking was off. If it is vaccuum (what it really sounds like), close the airflow, open/fill, start screwing the top on and flip it upside down, finish tightening the top, open airflow, flip it back over, and fire it/take a drag. That will reestablish the vaccuum.

A lot of the older top fill tank designs and even many of the old bottom fill rebuildables like Kayfuns had that issue.

That being said, you won't experience that problem once you dial in the wicking as the cotton will hold the vaccum when you open it. The above resolution is to use until you decide to rewick.

Yes, they are spring loaded which is not required but it is damn convenient.

This thread has 2 issues I can comment on.
1. I am looking for spare parts for my Serpent 22mm. See my spare parts thread in this subforum.
2. Wire Cutters. The ones that are shown are what you want but make sure they're curved slightly. Great for getting to difficult wire to cut.

I just saw Glass tube on Fasttech, I tried to ask directly Wotofo about some parts for my Serpent, but got somewhat rude answer to look elsewhere.
Your Wire Cutters link has nothing - We are unable to find the product you're searching for.

Does the wick should be loose in juice channels (my case) or I might need more wick to fill juice channels.
Serpent 25 RBA deck looks a bit different from 22 version - there is a metal ring around the base, which covers juice holes.

This is Serpent 22

I can see that you got lucky with someone broken Serpent. The only parts I can see are located in Europe, France and England, nothing even in China, WOW.

Harbor Freight or Amazon. They aren't uncommon.

WOTOFO is a well known vendor. One would think they would have a US service center. Bad service = bad business.
Well, let's keep a running thread for our Serpent parts...or any parts for that matter.

Actually, I was sent the wrong part. I need the original 22mm Serpent's ejuice and airflow mid section or a replacement top bell cap.

I use these.
https://www.harborfreight.com/micro-flush-cutter-90708.html

Got about 1.5 years worth of use out of a pair so far.
Might need another pair before long.
Starting to get a bit dull.
Cuts pretty flush. As good as my expensive ones I use for precision electronics work.

Which are expensive (if they flush), because I have cheap ones (actually not so cheap compare to yours) coming from China, maybe another week or so. I just want to have heavier duty ones, just in case, and/or just another extra pair

Actually, considering free shipping, Fasttech @$16.10 could be no so bad.

I needed a pair fast so went to Harbor Freight and they are still holding up fine.
Hard to beat for $4.
Best part is how long they are holding up and not needing to buy a really good one.

Hubby is a HF freak. He knows practically everything they have in their stores. I also got a compact hex/allen/screwdriver set. Comes in handy for several things. Better than using that cheap allen key. The nippers work great!

As I stated previously, I am getting something similar from Fasttech already and wanted to get something more durable and convenient. I am not saying that HF pliers are bad, they are just about the same as I am expecting.
For the better screwdrivers I am getting WIHA 0.9mm hex, 1.27mm hex and 1.5mm hex, those sizes should cover all most common ones, I think, I like small handle with rotating hand piece (I might get longer versions to work on the stand). Allen keys included in tank's packages are awful, so difficult to work with.

Lindstrom 8142 Cutters for me...if they havent dulled or broke for me in the past 2 years Ive used them for building and wholesale coils...they'll last anyone else a lifetime..

They are completely flush edge to edge at the teeth and will cut the pubies off a tick forever.

Ebay is the best place to get these, normally they are 60-80 bucks a pop but I got my last pair for $28 shipped on ebay.

Sounds like the perfect tools for you, Kisianik. I don't build elaborate coils, so this one works fine for me. Can be found on eBay.

Yep. $4 for 1.5 years use of a fairly decent pair of cutters is quite acceptable.
Going to get another pair next time I am in the big city.

$50 on amazon.

Seems like those are for me. I am going to get Hakko as well (due to my limitations I would not able to spend much in the future, my finances will be very tight), will compare. There is a difference in the price between Erem models, I think $62 is not much more expensive than $50, so I am planning to go with Erem 822N model instead Erem 2422E, both of them are Flush cut models with the same head shape, but 822N is approximately 20% tougher.
I am just that kind of a guy, I checked toughness for both (page 38), 2422E can cut 1mm 800 MPa (tensile strength) and 822N can cut 1.2mm 800 MPa. Kanthal A1 has 670 MPa rating and Stainless Steel 316L around 500 MPa, I am not planning to check other metals I am not going to use.

Thanks everyone for suggestions.

I can buy an awful lot of 4 dollar hakko for that price. I'd probably be dead by the time they all wore out.

The average builder would do just fine with a cheap pair.

The builder who does it for a living or does it professionally will benefit from a pair that costs a lot and doesn't wear out. Think about it a professional makes at least a 100 coils a day. Those coils consist of at least 6 wires which gets cut a few times before the coil is made whole which gets a few more cuts till it's mounted to an atty. Now times those cuts by 100 and that's how many times the cutters are used daily.

That being said if you have the money and don't ever want to fool with another pair of cutters the rest of your life then buy the better ones.

I understand your feelings guys, I was like that half year ago (I was using heavy duty nail clippers for wire), however I was presented with opportunity to get extra crispy things for vaping. June 2017 is my first upgrade month since Summer 2014 or so. I also got completely new inventory of mods and tanks and extra RBAs to most of them (where available). I don't know when my next spending opportunity will come, but I am sure that this will not happened in the next 3-4 years, at least. After I finish with this purchasing spree, I will have funds only for a juice and occasional wire (I also bought not so expensive 100 ft Clapton spool, UD ready Clapton wires and Stainless Steel wires various AWGs), I have enough cotton left from 2014.
So in this sense, I am trying to get tools for life as much as possible. My screwdrivers are from WIHA (not some crazy priced MIP or similar).
Basically, I don't want to think about it next month and after, enjoy what I have and spend time on other things.

EDIT
P.S> The only thing left for me to learn from the scratch is Temperature Control (that is why my main wire would be SS, since it is OK for VW and TC), but that will wait till I master coils and wicks for all my new tanks.

Well if they ever do break or dull out give the Lindstrom 8142 cutters a try...I would not suggest any other number from them because they have different type cuts on the blades or beveling. The 8142s are made from HRC 62 Hardened Ball Bearing Steel and build with the same "box style" swivel section.

This would be my second choice for sure if Erem fails (I am going to pick them up now). Amazon local delivery was extremely fast.

Keep salivating

WIHA screwdrivers are cheaper, pliers about the same as Erem, maybe a bit cheaper.
WIHA catalogs are a bit confusing, as they use order numbers, not model numbers.

I did contact them [email protected]

Hi
I am looking for spring loaded small diagonal flush cutting pliers like Wiha 32760, but they are not ground flush on the cutting side. There is a slight bevel on the blades, and I need to cut wire as close to the holding screw as possible. The head should be pointed, for working in the tight area.
Also the size of wire can be up to 14 AWG.
Also, from which material those pliers are made from.

Can you please help me. If you can provide item numbers for me to choose from it would be perfectly OK.

Appreciate in advance
