It's really nice. I like it. Surprisingly alot of vapor from it. Very flavorful too. I get a little whistle when air is closed a bit but great airflow

This is the first build I've been able to shoot properly. I'm glad people are noticing.
I'm using a Sony smartphone, a $15 Zomei macro and a $10 tripod.
Thanks.

Yea ... Im a cnc machinist.. I deal with frustrating shit everyday making airplane parts with less han .002 tolerance bbut not even that pisses me off as much as making COILS ... Great time

Crazy! I'm a CNC machinist as well in the Aerospace Industry :/ I currently work in an area where we sometimes have to hold a plus or minus .0002 tolerance (.0004 total).. it's ridiculous!

Knocked out a couple of half staggered staple fused claptons ...haven't been able to build in ages

Run out of 0.4 ribbon so used

4x 0.5x0.1 KA1 ribbon
1x 26g KA1 frame with 36g NI80 stagger
36g NI80 wrap

8 wraps 3mm diameter should come out at about 0.16ohms

Gonna mount them when my new atty arrives (hopefully they'll fit :) ) I'll post the glow shot when I do

I have the dripbox 160 too, another decent. Build I found with 24g is 8 wraps spaced with a 3.5mm ID. An easy way that I make spaced coils is to just wrap around your screwdriver with maybe 1/4inch spaces between wraps then once u put the last wrap on and even out the leads I just use my fingers to push all the wraps together against the base of the screwdriver and then I let go of the coil and the wraps just spring back out with even spaces in them. Hope this helps

Thanks brother! I'll give it a try.

Just rebuild the simple coils with a smaller ID. if you have to wait for something to heat you're draining you batteries and heating the atty. Plus 4mm ID looks way too big for that atty. I'd do 3mm.

Yea I was barely able to cram it in there. I knew I would be pushing it but just wanted to give it a try. Thanks for the pointers. My last was 3.5 at 7 wraps and it was ok. I'm going to be finding a new RDA soon with a squonk pin so I can build different builds. It does drain a lot of power. I mean there is about a 1 second delay on it when I hit the button. I do find I have to vape at way higher watts and the vape is cool with not a ton of flavor. How many wraps would you suggest at 3mm ID? Thanks again.

3mm ID works in about everything pretty well. There are a few attys that like 2.5mm but yours isn't one of them.
It's hard for me to tell you how many wraps to use because you're probably using a regulated box and I can't figure out how many wraps of whatever = good vape. I use mechs so it's pretty easy for me to tell someone else with a mech what works for me.
Since I don't know how much power you have or want to use, I'd try the same amount of wraps just with a smaller ID and the same power then work your way down till you get something that's hot the instant you hit the button.

Thanks brother! I'll give it a try.

Not a problem bro, it has good flavor and cloud production, and with fewer wraps a smaller ID and being spaced u should really notice the difference in ramp up time.

It's the one that came with the Kanger Dripbox 160. Not a great one really I'm going to get a better one but just starting building so wanted to crank out a few builds before that.

I actually like the little RDA that came with the dripbox 160 lol. It's not all that fancy but it does what it's supposed to do and works well in a pinch. I also have the tsunami 24 and velocity clone squonk ready. I don't care for the tsunami all that much. The coils sit above bottom airflow of course, which is usually great for a RDA but with squonking it makes it waaaay to easy to flood for me. I like the velocity clone for squonk RDA but I had to make the hole through the squonk pin wider because it wouldn't work with the dripbox for some reason

thats about all ribbon is good for in my hands.

Hehe had the same thing just happen to me threw away a build I had spent last hour making had almost finished it ribbon twisted and collapsed ...poxy hate 0.3 ribbon it's a bitch to use so much more than 0.4 and 0.5

@KingPin! yeah I was trying to work with .4 right there. it was second attempt and after prep I tightened the chuck of my drill down and it went to hell. im horrible with ribbon tho, short of tiger coils I cant do shit with ribbon. I had like 1 successful normal staple coil that a posted here about a week ago but other than that im horrible lol. that was an attempt at a framed staple that I want to do before tackling a ssfc. honestly I was not impressed with the staple coil compaired to a 3 or 4 core fused clapton or a 3 core alien.

When i stack my ribbon I try to do what whiteowl suggested now makes it so much easier

1) Once you stack it ...lick your fingers or use VG and run it along the ribbon this allows it to stick together and stay in place >
2) pinch it at the mid point folding it in half (can do this around the swivel) should still be stacked >
3) Holding it flat tie it off with thing gauge wire or ribbon >
4) up the other end tie the stack flat
5) Then put the frame over the top of the ribbon loop (first fold in half as per above) >
6) Pinch it flat then tie into place >
7) Then glue it
8) do the same up the other end leaving the frame legs longer length than the ribbon
9) tie the legs together so the can sit centrally in the chuck

You'll end up with something a bit like this (not the neatest glue job I've ever done but you get the idea :) )

Which holds it onto the swivel
IMG_1071.JPG

Now up the other end the frame legs that were longer put these into the chuck . Have some ribbon that you can use to slide it along as you go this keeps it in check as you wrap it

Tension is key there shouldn't be anything flopping about when you go to wrap it

Had my first attempt at a fused staggerton variant today not that pleased with it ...did make two but the other one was shocking so it went in the bin this one isn't all that much better either

Really struggled to keep the frames in shape as I was wrapping it think they slipped round half way through :( was trying to use the floating technique

Used pretty much the same materials Raymo posted a while back obviously his is flawless lol

If I had the choice would have used 0.4 ribbon but had to use 0.3

Anyway

it's got single 26g core with 36g staggered wrap
2 lots of 4 ply 0.3 x0.1 ribbon
2x28g frames
40g wrap

Keep at it man! Im not tring to float the cores of stags anymore. Do you have a vice? Cause raymos suggestion to me worked wonders. After staggering the core leave it on the swivel. Bend the frames in half and attach to lose end with wire and glue put it in the vise pull it tight and wrap the frames around the swivel while pulling. Finish securing the swivel end with wire, slider and glue.

Anyone here think of starting a new thread? One maney titled "It worked for me" with tips and tricks eg. aliens, ribbon stacking, staggering. Its kinda tough for me to find descriptions of techniques on this thread. Often the pros out there are answering questions multiple times. Mabey just keep the coil porn thread for pics, recipes, congratulations & encouragement? Whatcha think admins?

That's a great idea. I'm interested in getting going on building beyond claptons, but going through this thread is difficult. As Jriley just suggested, separate threads for different builds would be good. Perhaps by type or difficulty would work.

Get one that has jaws wide enough grab your drill but can also hold wire tight too. I use two diffeent ones heres what u use for holding wire and coiling.
http://www.stewmac.com/Luthier_Tool...JbySy2byBp-XeYkhKgAoFtdCsnCp07xmZphoCZxvw_wcB
Its tiny but clamps wire great and also serves as a rest for thw coil master mandrel.
And heres what i use for the drills.

Its very heavy so holds drill and wire tight without having to clamp it down.

Finally had some build time and finally had some success with SSFC. Made about a 5" length. Think I have a grip on how to do it now. But took about an hour to make this piece.

welcome to the thread @Roger_Ripps98

got moved in to the new place today, but i work long days from now till tuesday so i prolly wont be set up any time soon. some of my daily setups need new coils bad. i have been hitting a magma clone in mtl mode with plain 28g coils in it at .8ohms. im dying to put something nice in it...im really thinking of trying a @Johnny VapeStand 32/42 alien, but im not sure if my balls have dropped enough to hit that build yet...

yeah, i had a couple days last week i could have easily made a few feet of fused claptons or a couple alien builds for my daily bangers, but i was all stressed out about moving and the timing of everything, it felt like i should be packing up all my tools if i touched them at all. i also hate to just settle for using my limited build time for easy maintenance builds like fused claptons or aliens, when i might be able to do a build i have never tried...but thats a risk in itself, because if i fail, it could be days before i have another chance to do a build. its a crushing existential dilemma man...

How the heck do keep the cores straight mate thought I'd take it easier to start with and just use 4 cores but for the life of me can't keep it flat it's enfuriating!

The clamp end is fine it's the swivel end I'm having probs with ...also did you use a key ring or something?

i agree with @Dustyjeans @Jriley and @bobnat. this thread is a couple hundred pages too long to find all the good advice hidden within it. it might be a good idea to make threads for techniques, like a whole thread on how to do alien wrap (for anything, 3 cores, staple, framed staple. it doesnt matter what the cores are, the alien wraps always work the same), stacking ribbon, setting up swivels and hand vises, making spaced claptons for stagger variants (as staggering them), keeping many cores stable while wrapping, working with 40+ gauge wire etc...there are a lot of separate things that are discussed in here at length, but its hard to dig up the info now...

agreed @whiteowl84, but its not very organized or easy to find. im sure lots of us have already answered most of the questions in this very thread, but good luck finding it when you are in the middle of a tough build and suddenly come up with a question. this way, people can go talk about it and share all the tips in one (hopefully smaller and easier to digest) thread.

nice start @Johnny VapeStand hopefully others will follow. if i have time later ill try to step up to the plate and start some too...

I forgot what thread it was where I mentioned the paraclap thing and you said you were paraplegic so I'm posting this here.
Thus is how I paraclap:
2 sandwich sized ziplocks about 1/3 open with the wire poking out. Just let them feed you wire as you paraclap. I use the box to hold up the baggies.
You can also dual spool with 2 spools in one hand but it's hard to do across 18" or so.

I'm experimenting with my Obese Buddha I got yesterday. Coils are kinda jacked, but I was a frigging idiot and lost my coil jig, and lack the dexterity to hand-wrap a decent coil. *Le sigh* I used 24ga Kanthal to start out with.

Forgiving the fact that it looks totally ridiculous on my RX250, it does put out some great clouds. I'm not in this game for looks, plus I'm too cheap to buy a Hammer of God V3, which is what RDAs like these were practically made for.
