How to get a good low wattage vape?

hi guys,
i have been vaping for about a year now. First I started vaping at 40 watts with an obs ace. Slowly, I shifted into higher wattage vaping (70-80 watts) with 0.2 ohm resistance and it was good. The vape experience of high wattage vaping is very satisfying, wet and flavourful vape, tons of cloud and tons of flavor.

One day, i visited my friend who also vaped and he has this wonderful tugboat v2 rda. I asked him how does his rda vape, then he said go on have a vape. I tasted his tugboat rda and at that very moment i fell in love with it, very flavorful satisfying vape!. I said to him wow what a vape, what wire are you using right now. he replied saying that he used regular wire, no fancy clapton or alien or fused clapton, etc.

Pity that i didnt pay much attention at what watt did he vape, neither his build. Because now i am trying to replicate the very same vaping experience that he has without success, and now he is unreachable (changed his phone number or something).

Now i know that to get a flavorful vape, you will need as much of the wire touching the wicking as much as possible to vaporize the juice. As they said more surface area means more flavor. So i have been building my coil as follow:

dotmod petri v3 rda
kanthal a1 26g
10 wraps @ 2.5mm screwdriver
coming out at 0.56 ohm
vaping at 40 watts

With this setup, the vape that i get is very dry and dull. No flavor whatsoever! and it is very frustrating :( i have tried doing 14 wraps at 2.5 but no luck. Help me guys! i need that vape experience

but how? im not getting any flavor whatsoever. ss 316L 5-7 wraps will come out at around 0.3 ohm, with 15 watts the coil wont get as hot plus slow ramp up time. at least thats what i know.

use smaller gauge SS316L.
Faster ramp up and better at lower wattages.

yes i am using dual coil, as the dotmod petri has no single coil option
The Dotmod petri is not really a low wattage device.
Attys are designed for a particular application.
Hadalys and the like are designed ofr low wattage applications.
MOST RDA's out now are not designed for low wattage applications.

Im no expert but you may be over doing your cotton..shouldn't be stuffing leaving no room for airflow..just sayin ;)

All mine vape fantastic Airflow is directly under the coil there is plenty of room under and coming up both sides, these are extremely loose fluffy wicking
I tend to take a while fluffing my cotton out before wicking so i use less but looks more it holds more Juice due to being very airy inside the cotton
and these are restricted DTL to MTL vaping so not Designed for tons of Airflow in above pictures .

Where as these below
Are higher wattage bigger wires

First 2 pic ,wasp nano side Airflow ,
3rd pic Supreme lite rdta side Airflow
4th 5th Side Airflow Supreme plus RDTA 3pmm postless deck

If these are not wicked as i do they leak , the airflow is fine within all of them , the pics are from the top so you cannot see how much room there is under an to the sides for Airflow which there is plenty ,

yes i am using dual coil, as the dotmod petri has no single coil option
Then dual uses more power due to running 2 coils ,
Single uses less so longer run time from cells , not much can do unless it has single coil option by blocking of one side of deck if no single coil adapter available only option is to then buy a single coil rta . sorry

If your looking for a cheap MTL- restricted DTL , type RTA cheap the Hussar RTA , or Taifun GTv3 are cheap enough as clones , authentic versions are 200euro or 120 euro depending on which , skyline is 180 euro ,
But clones cost 15-20ÂŁ each , and if choose right ones they are just as good TBH ,

Hussar has nano tanks ,spares + airflow pins for MTL , or top caps
as extras

I bought this rda quite a while back (about 5 months ago) with investment in mind. I thought this is gonna be the one expensive rda that im gonna have ($110) and i want it to be the flavor machine. And it did perform beautifully with small fused clapton wire running at 0.25 ohms 70 watts.

But then i met that tugboat rda.. damn! Now im bewitched by the simplicity and the performance of it. So i think im gonna go and buy the tugboat v3 clone from my local store tomorrow

If you want to use low wattage, then you should be using higher resistance, smaller-gauge wire, and tighter airflow.

I vape at <10w, 2 ohm coil, using 29ga kanthal, 8 wraps around a 3/32 drillbit -- I think that's 2.38mm, not sure, I don't really speak metric. I also use an Achilles RDA, which tragically aren't available any longer, but they are the absolute KING of low-wattage vaping. My vape is absolutely SATURATED with flavor -- when I first started using the Achilles, I used to feel my lips, thinking I was getting ejuice in my mouth -- I wasn't; the vape is just that flavorful.

You're on the right track if you use an RDA, and especially, an RDA that has airflow directly beneath the coil. There is no reason to need 2 coils; that just gives more heat, not necessarily more flavor. The only exception I can think of to that, *might* be a Magma -- which is an OUTSTANDING flavor atty, but I use it with a single coil, and use only a single airhole, the smallest one. Still at less than 10w.

It also depends on if his RDA can do single Airflow otherwise has wasted space an Airflow that dilute the Flavours down.

If you want to replicate his build, you should call him and ask him what his build was.

So far you know tugboat and not a fancy coil. You don't know if it was low watts, or what watts.

Since you are picking up a tugboat you are 1/2 way there to replicating his setup. Now you need to know kanthal or SS, what size wire, what size coil(s), coil placement inline with airflow or slightly higher than airflow. Temp control or power mode.
Edit: add to that, what wick material and how was it wicked.
Maybe it was just a better juice.

If this is a friend, take your new tugboat to their house and have a build session with them (bring a 6 pack)

That's why I suggested the Magma; the original model clones are dirt cheap, and great attys for low-wattage vaping, either dual or single. Outstanding flavor from those. I've never been able to get any flavor from attys that have the internal airhole beside the coil(s); only below the coil.

Because it really does depend on the atty, more than the build -- each atty is built and optimized for a certain type of build, a certain type of vape. If I wanted to huff my vape, I'd probably think the beside-the-coil arrangement was fine, since huffing doesn't provide much flavor to your tongue anyway -- it's going straight into your lungs, which have no tastebuds.

Update guys! Turns out i have been using the wrong rda, wrap count and the type of wire.

After desperately chasing that simple small 22 atty setup, i finally made a purchase on tugboat v2 slamcap edition and finallh the setup was replicated successfully. :)

All i did was use the tugboat slamcap, put in ss316 26g wire with 8 wraps around 2.5 screwdriver, coming out at around .3 ohm and vaping it at 37.5 watts.

For wicking i used muji cotton wicked just right, meaning it has enough tug on the wire but not bending it.

With this setup, i get the same exact flavor that i know this juice is meant to produce, for i have vaped this juice for quite a while now so i know how its supposed to taste.

Thanks for all the help guys, im never going back to high wattage vaping again ;)

Thanks for the response :) but smaller gauge wire is just too flimsy and break easily. I had experience with my goon lp using 28g nichrome and it was just a pain in the butt.

My cotton keep burning and the wire itself is just too thin to work with.

But i finally found my solution though :D so thanks for the help

Dudee thanks for helping me with all the details and the picture, it helps a lot!

I finally found just the right setup with the tugboat slamcap. Turns out i just have the wrong atty just like you said, the dotmod is just not meant for low wattage and simple wire vaping. :D

That might be nice, if only i hadn't lost contact with him since i moved out of town. As i said in earlier post, he perhaps changed his number and i cant contact him, while i am in another town since i moved a few months back

Thanks for the advice though!
