Atomizer popping

I'm new to vaping, got my first mod and atomizer a week ago.
The mod is sigelei j80.
The atomizer is Geek Vape - Eagle Tank.
The problem is when I hit the fire button and take a drag, I start getting some snap crackle pop. I figure a little crackling is normal. However the pops scare me. I probably took no more than 20 drags total when I first got it. Then I stopped vaping because I got a really sore throat, but it turns out it's probably just allergies, I've had post nasal drip all week, and a sore throat and cough all week.

Today, I tried vaping again, there was a huge and scary pop, it was like a fire cracker. The moment I removed it from my mouth, about an 8th of a second after I let off the fire button, I got a huge pop, like a fire cracker. The tank is still in one piece, I wasn't injured, I can't say for sure that it would have injured me, but now I am scared of this thing. There was a little bit of juice that came out of the bottom (probably through the air vents) after the pop.
I am vaping at 40 to 45 watts, the Eagle tank has the top and bottom air flow wide open, and the juice flow wide open. The pre-wicked coil & deck I am using says for 40 - 70 watts.

The juice I am using is Naked 100, Lava (30/70 pg/vg)

I'm wondering what the problem is.
Also, I let the tank sit for 7 days without use, while about 2ml of e-liquid was in there. Is it possible the big fire cracker pop was the result of water build up over the past week of not being used?
Oh, and 3 more details:
1. Even when I hold the fire button for a couple of seconds, and hold it away from my face, it does the snap crackle pop thing with what appears to be a drop of juice shooting out of the dropper (I believe this is called spit back)
2. I would try temperature mode, but I found out after I bought this mod, that it is notorious for not having a proper temp control and will burn a dry wick in half (according to a couple of videos I've seen)
3. When I pre-soaked the wick, I added a lot of juice, and onto the coils as well. Could this all be the result of a flooded tank?

Let me try to assuage your fears. We'll start at number three on you list.

If you get a 'flooded' tank or RDA you'll find you suck nothing but juice out of it. There won't be any popping. The coil/s will not heat at all.

Yes, wick can be burnt in the coil/s. It isn't a tasty joy to experience. That noted it is not tasty to suck juice only either. This is a subjective matter. We each need to find our own levels, with each device we use & each various wick material.

For example, I am currently using Muji cotton as wick. I used the Scottishroll technique to wick the dual coils I build for a mech. This dual coil set up is running about 0.28 (R) ohms for me. I cannot accurately tell you what wattage I use, I'm using a mechanical mod. The cotton will stand up to about 6-12 fair duration hits, until I need to give a squeeze or two on the sqounk bottle, if you drip, it would be dripping to wet the wick. In a tank you don't worry about either of those. your wick will draw in juice as it needs, no more or less.

You're correct, a bit of popping is 'natural' and it is due in part to the juice heating and in a sense boiling up. Try blowing on your first hit instead of taking a draw. This might help cut down the noise and spit back. You can find drip tips what protect from spit back. You also may want to decrease your top airflow. That might help give you a tighter draw, which will help in ensuring your juice gets fully atomized and less spitback happens.

ETA: Here's a few tutorial videos which might help.

I suggest using the Scottish Roll method of wicking. In my own experience doing that works out well. There's little if any dry burn hitting. You will eventually 'learn' the taste at the point right before your wick goes fully dry. I'm looking over here at the tank you're using. Goodness, it says capacity is a bit over 6 ml, well you'll have roughly about 1 ml in the wicks.

That gives you an estimated 7 ml in a tank with satuated wicks and filled up fully. There's a guy on Youtube too that uses the Scottish Roll method. Look for 44 hits on a Scottish Roll in a Kenedy. If he's hammering like that off of dripping, you with a tank ought not hit a dry burn for quite a while. :)

I simply got seduced by RDAs and cannot emulate their preformance in a tank. I though do not like the notion of having to drip. So, I squonk which is dripping inverted. I got a bottle which can theorectically hold 10 ml, I only fill it to about 9.5 ml, need to account for displacement of the sqounk tube. I usually do get 6-12 good hits before needing to squonk and refresh my wicks. They start developing the 'no taste', taste, ergo I figure more juice can be used. :)

In my experience, those loud pops are from an oversaturated wick. After the first couple of hits, it subsides. I'm not familiar with the Eagle tank, but a couple of mine could very well wick too much juice, if I didn't have enough wicking in the coil(s). Try using a tiny bit more wick and see if that helps, and if all else fails, that first puff of the day, just hold the mod at arm's length and fire it until it goes bang. I used to have to do that with one of mine, because I never could figure out precisely how much wicking it wanted. ;) You and your tank aren't in danger of injury from those pops, unless you get a spat of hot juice. I never did, just that loud pop, but it sometimes startled me enough that I bumped my lip on the drip tip and got an owie. That was the one I had to hold at arm's length when I first fired it for the day. You'll get the hang of it, don't worry. :D

Great news, the popping is gone.
A guy on YouTube said if your wick is over saturated, hold the atomizer upside down, blow into it hard three times with a paper towel around the bottom air holes to blow out the juice.
Well that helped a lot, but it was still a little “poppy” and gurgly.

I just got some new e-juiced today, and re-wicked my coil. It's perfect.
The draws are smooth, no popping, not even sizzling. It's just the smoothest, most silent, draw.
Also, I took your advice, MyMagicMist, and closed the top air vent so that my draws would cool the coils down faster.

And the new e-juice I got, 88% VG, and only 3mg nicotine, it is much smoother, I only get a throat hit when I blow a real big cloud. Otherwise there's virtually no throat hit. I guess the nicotine level makes way more of a throat hit difference than I originally thought.

Anyhow, I want to thank you guys for your help.
Also, squonking, didn't know what it was, had to look it up, now I want to squonk so bad.
