Average number of coils per build session?

So, I had the day off work and not much to do and got the urge to sit down and enjoy some quality tv time along with tinkering around with building some coils. I'm marathon watching some Netflix when my girlfriend comes in the room...she shakes her head and says that I had definitely given up one habit for another...and not giving up smoking analogs to vaping, but giving up analogs to coil building.
Granted, I got a bit carried away and made a few more than I typically do when I sit down to build, but as I started stating my case that most builders do the same thing, I realized I have no facts or numbers on just how many coils your average person building Coils for personal use (not for selling or anything) builds per "session" and figured I'd hop on here and see if I could get an average "guesstimate".
I know the answer varies widely from person to person considering different variables like time issues and materials along with skill and yada-yada-yada...I'm not trying to figure this out for posterity or anything, just kind of curious as to how widely the answer is from person to person and if there happens to be anything of an "average" that comes out of the mix of answers.
Right now my go to coils are triple core Alien Coils (26ga/36ga Nichrome 80), so, that's all I've been building. Typically I'll prep enough stuff to make 10 coils because if I'm really off my game, I'll need to make sure I have at least two useable coils, but on the other hand if I'm really on my game...it's nice to have plenty of backups to stockpile for a rainy day. It got a bit out of hand today and I ended up with I think 22 coils wrapped and ready with another 15 or so made, but have yet to be wrapped around the screwdriver yet.
So, just tossing the question into the void of how many coils are you left with when you scratch the itch to build some coils?

Well seeing as I'm still new to the whole RBA scene the only coils I've actually built are a dual parallel and pair of twisted coils. I've thought about wrapping a handful in one sitting for practice and backup but never have the extra time. Plus I'm still learning about what kind of builds I like. So far, prebuilt spools is good enough for me.

I actually drew inspiration from the show I was marathoning to throw back at her, lol. Pointed out that during down time one of the main characters spends his time in the basement building boats to keep himself busy...so, I'm doing the same thing :)

Is the the show with Gibbs and the Gothic punk rock girl? My wife used to watch that religiously until she went to SVU

While Enjoy the NCIS franchise my wife is totally bonkers. She owns all seasons on DVD. And has at least one NCIS coffee cup.

Hell, if they could slap Ice Skates on the cast and crew, she would be the first to purchase tickets to "NCIS on ICE"

Anyway, back to the subject at hand.

I am a lazy old fart and I purchase SS Clapton coils and just install them.

And since I am really good about dry burning and replacing the coils after running 30 ml of E-Liquid between cleanings, I am on month #3 on my present coil.

Coil per build session?
About 8-10.
But I only wind simple round wire coils.
Takes about 15 minutes from start to cleaned up.

I only build what I am gong to use. With my two "little helpers" just wrapping two coils is a adventure. So I now buy spools of fused Clampton wire to use. Most time it is just a simple SS coils though.

I use AVS prebuilts. Keep spools of wire to change it up occasionally. Honestly I'm just lazy & love 3core fused clapton from AVS. The building side of vaping not really part of my vaping hobby. Do love lurking on vape porn threads, what you guys do with wire is beautiful.

If I am using single wire I will do like 8 coils. Since I make my clapton wire now I only do three or four coils. That will increase once my speed increases.

Note: My last spaced 26 SS316L was used a good 1.5 weeks. When I check it, it only had a couple of marks in the middle. I rewicked and kept using it. No issues. My kanthal coils, on the other hand, looked much worse and needed to be cleaned or changed. Based on that I may start sticking with SS coils.

Umm. I had no idea I was supposed to have "build sessions." I wrap a fresh coil when I need one, mount it, and vape. In a month or so, I do it again. Been doing that for over 3 yrs now. First I've ever heard of "build sessions." You cloud chasers have the funniest ideas.

It has nothing to do with cloud chasing or flavor chasing or really even the act of vaping at all. If the FDA for some reason tomorrow banned all vaping products, I'd probably still sit around and build Coils just because I enjoy building them and perfecting techniques and tinkering around with them.

They will never be able to ban cotton pads, resistance wire, propylene glycol, glycerin, or cooking flavors.

There really isn't much technique in 8-9 wraps of 29ga kanthal around a 3/32 drillbit.

I may have emphasized the wrong part of my comment...wasn't saying that the FDA was going to ban anything...I was just saying that I've become addicted to building coils whether I'd use them or not. When I need to replace coils I typically setup to build 10 of them just for fun and use the two best that I make and typically give away the rest or keep them saved up in case I need to swap out coils but don't have time to build. If it was just for cloud chasing, I'd be going with the simplest build I've ever done but got massive clouds from...3 spaced wraps of 20ga

I am not into stuff like building cool fancy coils
For those that are enjoy.
I have too many things to do.
Now if I was an apartment dweller I might get into such things, but think i would prefer to design circuits and such.

I never knew a build like that could work! But then again I'm the kind of guy that gripes if my leads aren't straight. As in, the length of my coils need to be as close to the width of the posts as possible. Well I used to think that until I figured out that life doesn't work that way. I really need to try a spaced build.

It's not a build I'd recommend. It is insanely hot and ohmed out at, I believe, .07 so it's not battery safe except in quick short pulses and even then it evaporates all the liquid in the cotton at once no matter how saturated they are. That was on an X1 Copper RDA sitting on my Copper Able Mod and I was just testing out the mod because I had just purchased it that day and wanted to kind of benchmark how it would handle.
As for spaced coils vs contact coils, I'm in the middle of testing out an idea that seems to be working well. I was thinking along the same lines as you that I hate misshaping the coil trying to get it from post to post, so, I was throwing a 6th wrap into my builds

Well...I was using all Nichrome 80 for the coils and the 6th wrap was slowing the ramp up time way too much, so, I switched to using SS316L which helped the ramp up time, but still left me with a bulky coil that I had to cram into the space. But a couple days ago I thought I'd try taking one of my all Nichrome 80 builds and pull out one of the wraps and then space the coils and it works great so far...without the 6th wrap the ramp up time has gone back down and the coil still makes it from post to post without having to cram a bigger build into the small space

After building for over 4 years, I just build when I have to, the novelty wore off eons ago. I'll let all my attys burn out before I clean them then one at a time over several days rebuild or rewick them. The only atty I really consider important is the one I take to work, that one takes priority and soon as its funky it gets replaced and all my other attys can wait till I feel like rebuilding them. I have lots of clapton wire I've made so its a matter of coil, wick then go, 10 minutes to rebuild a atty.
Criminal Minds, Law and Order, CSI and other crime shows like that are great. We get full use out of the Kodi box and watch so so many shows that I can't keep track any more. Don't watch many movies but marathon watching TV series and other shows that I use to download to watch but haven't since the kodi box showed up. The only TV that is watched now is PVR soaps that are unreliable through kodi so we kept the basic cable to keep my wife happy.

Interesting topic. I don't have coil building sessions, more like wire building sessions.

I used to build when I needed to, even as I got more and more into building exotic coils. But life has gotten hectic lately and the drill would wake the kiddo up at night, so when I have time I go nuts with it.

I'll usually wrap up some spiral, Clapton and fused Clapton wire at first because I know I can nail it first try. After that (if I have time) I'll attempt something more complicated. I'll keep at it until life demands of me again and then go about my day. I make sure to label all of it and then build coils out of all of it as I need to.

Sucks when a label falls off and I have to guess what the hell I wrapped up, but that's what regulated devices are for, eh?

i make about 3 foot of staggered fused at a time and leave it like that till i wana wrap it. Prob takes half hour once a month. Otherwise ill make random stretches about a foot long when i get the chance just to play with wire and experiment. 4 strand of 30 awg rapped in 40 awg and mushed flat to make a catapiler track was laat play time hahaScreenshot_2017-07-13-17-57-56_1499986705855.jpg

Good ole caterpillar coils...a blast from the past!! I haven't built that since Christmas 2015...8-10 strands of 30g was actually much easier to keep parallel than I thought it would be. I still remember neighbors poking their heads outside wondering what the "ting ting ting ting" sound was when I'd hammer it flat outside
