Gonna need to dry out before I get rid of the excess salt. Looks like the logo should be fine. Just gotta figure out how to get all the Vaseline off of it before I clear-coat it.

Sweet looking job. Hmmm as far as the Vaseline I'd say maybe a qtip and roll the gunk off as to not hit the patina. Good luck man. Hell if you're still looking to sell it. It may go quicker now. A chef custom patina authentic Purge. That's a headline right there. Ha ha

Yeah, it'll probably sell much easier now. A one-of-a-kind custom patina Purge. But, depending on how it turns out, I may just want to keep it.

I'l thinking I'll just wipe the salt off the logo with a Q-Tip or maybe a small screwdriver, then give it the first clear-coat. After that dries, there should still be enough Vaseline in the logo to give it a better cleaning, then continue with another clear coat. Sand it down a bit, then another 2 clear coats to finish it.

Sounds like a good plan. Yea you might want to keep it for sure.

Not too bad, I guess. Time to start the clear coating.

Is all the salt washed off? Looks rough texture still. I usually wash all the salt to where it's just the color

Nope. I just sanded it down after 2 clear coats. It'll still have a bit of texture, though. Should be ready in about an hour after the 3rd coat dries.

So I have a brass Broadside clone in an egg "bath" right now. I boiled the eggs, and let them set at room temperature for 2 days before breaking them up for this patina. They didn't seem to have fermented at all when I cracked 'em open, and there's no noticeable gas forming in the bag. I'll open it tomorrow and hope I get good results.

After about 18 hours in the egg, I'm a little disappointed in the weak patina on this mod. Even after aging the eggs for 2 days before use.

So I'm gonna try something a little different. I added a bit of kosher salt and white vinegar to the egg just to see what will happen.

I'll leave the mod in here until either later tonight or tomorrow morning. Kinda nasty looking, but maybe it'll be worth it. Worst case scenario is I have to buff it out if I don't like the end result.

I really like the subtle effect. I would have polished a bit and been quite pleased with the looks. Curious to see next result.

So @anavidfan was nice enough to gift me with this Terra mod set and this Ignition base mod/atty connector.

So after a little chit-chat, I decided to put a patina on the 18350 portion of the set to use with the Ignition base.
Here it is after about an hour into an ammonia/sea salt fuming:

And overnight:

Let it dry, and gave it a quick brushing to get rid of the excess salt and then gave it a light rinse to get rid of any residual salt:

First clear coat and close up:

Sanded with 3,000 grit and applied a 2nd clear coat. Came out pretty nice I think:

I see you know the trick of sanding back and re-clearing. Works well to build up the surface for a deeper, smoother shine. These mods look amazing. Such a neat idea. I've done the rusted look on a hood of a car, but the oxidation looks so much more interesting with the different colours and reactions.

I've never actually rrsanded after a clear coat but I'm pretty lazy. I just do small increments of clear coats as to not get build up. But it happens sometimes.

Partially successful "Porn Mod" patina attempt. Didn't come out nearly as nice as I had wanted. There should have been much greater variations in color. Maybe it was cheap brass? It's a Roundhouse clone (but the RDA is authentic).

Chef, I'm in awe at your talent. It is jaw dropping. The mods are above gorgeous. The work you put into this work of art is long but pays for itself. And a lot of labor.

Not sure if this'll work, but trying yellow mustard and Vietnamese chili/garlic sauce on a couple of mods. Using sea salt and ammonia also.

The mods are a previously (crappy) patina'd copper tube from a Fat Daddy Noisy Cricket upgrade kit, and a copper SOI Shorty clone.

I was hoping more for all metallics, but now I'm hoping some of the blue stays on. But I have to give it a heavy rinse/light rub to get rid of the mustard. Might wear the blue off in the process.

Got tired of waiting, so I took 'em out of the fume box and will let them dry/set for an hour or 2 before rinsing.

Gettin' kinda excited - I think they'll look pretty good once they're clear coated! Managed to keep a bit of blue. Looks a little like a vein of turquoise.

Aww you had me all excited, I was hoping to see a massive JCM head or some crazy vintage cab :D Cheers tho. I've used the Line 6 with good results and I bet that Carvins got a sweet sound :D Are there many players on the forums? Haven't ran into any threads yet, but I'm new. Here's my latest project, yet to be finished. A 2 piece mahogany hardtail stratocaster. Should make for a good sound.

They're looking beautiful. I know a few people that would pay good money for pieces like this. Especially considering you've been playing with so many different colours and effects. This stuff is right up my ally. I'm JUST starting to get into air brushing. The idea is all the same, take something bland, and make it beautiful!

Shwiing. I figure you jump all over those mechs for sale last night. Some nice copper. I tried for the Vt 75 in the regulated sale, but got beat to it.

If you decide to part with any of them I'd like dibs on the smpl mod. I love that full blue.
