Odis 16: authentic vs clone

I pretty much love everything about my authentic Odis 16 except the retail price, lol.

Big flavor in a small attie. Deck size leaves enough room that you are not stuck running teenie 2mm diameter coils either.

So, finally got the FT Odis 16 clone to compare the two

You get the same room on the deck with the clone, but there are striking differences that are easy to see and is probably why the clone is not as flavorful to me.

To keep it a level playing field, both are sporting single-coil 32.3 twisted fused claptons, six wraps, 2mm diameters. Also, both are being compared on identical CopperVape aluminum squonkers.

The authentic costs $116 plus shipping from Canada

The clone being compared is from Fast Tech in China, and costs $6.39, so $110 less, lol

My first and biggest complaint about the clone is the fact that the drip tip is threaded to screw into the base of the attie - a standard 510 drip tip does not fit into the base, period

The drip tip on the clone is also open wider than the authentic so you draw in more air

The authentic Odis 16 easily accommodates regular 510 drip tips. The stock drip tip it comes with is a nothing special shorty.

The regular pin that arrives stock in the Odis 16 is a flathead, but only a Phillips is included. You have to switch the stock pin with the included bf pin for squonking.

The authentic comes pre-squonkified.

The flat head slot on the clone spans the entire head of the pin so leakage is likely.

Also, when torqued in as far as it will go, the squonk pin protrudes out a little more than the authentic. It was much easier to squonkify the Odis 16 clone compared to the Odis 24 clone

This photo easily shows the difference between the squonk pins

Here is where the cloners blew it the most: the air channel on the authentic tunnels is bored at an angle, which ensures the air hits the coil direct when you draw from the drip tip.

On the clone, you get the equivalent of a barn door: much of the air you draw into the attie does not move through the coil before it is drawn up through the drip tip.

The authentic is on the left

I see the air hole on the base of the clone, is milled at 90 deg. to the base.
Is the authentic airhole milled at an angle, like the full size Odis?

Edit: never mind, was typing while you were posting.
Great write up!

The post screws on the clone are a little further apart than the authentic

I'm assuming this is so the user can install a wider coil or a spaced coil. Not sure it matters that much, but it is a significant differenceIMG_0772.JPG

Here you can see how much wider open the clone drip tip is

The clone top cap (remember, the DT screws into the top cap ) does not accommodate an 810 thread or a 810 to 510 converter. It's kinda in between the two. But, it forces you to accept the extra air.

Would also be a bummer if your build snaps and crackles a lot. It hasn't been an issue for me, but for someone that has issues with spitting, I can see a lot of little splats of lava shooting into the mouth

EDIT: The clone dt is on the bottom

Great writeup yes! I finally got rid of the gurgling and juice in my mouth by lifting the 1 ohm coil. Wasn't much of a problem with the 0.5 ohm coil I had in it a while ago, as I can remember.

What setup do you like the most? Close to the airflow, or as far away as possible?

I'm liking it best air hole on the cap aligned with it on the deck - but vape it however it makes you the happiest :)

I have a double twisted fused clapton in mine and it is firing away very happy. Can't remember the ID, but it looks like it's probably at 2.

Bet it will be fine with whatever will actually fit :cloud:

@JuicyLucy I just saw a picture of a different cap someone had for the authentic, made me think. The garbage 510 makes the clone unusable to me, but the missing airflow angle is livable.

For science would you be willing to drag the clone out of the junk drawer I'm sure it's occupying and try the authentic top cap on it?

ETA: I can afford $36 for a good vape. $116 is a bit out of range.

ETA2: meant DT, not 510

You mean try to fit the OG odin cap on the clone?

I'll look around

I'm using the Enushi ultem on the OG - every single day

That's it exactly.

I'd be willing to buy one of Odis's own Ultem or Delrin caps if it might work.

Didn't know Enushi made their own, I'll have to give that a look see.

They are on the Odis website, Enushi doesn't have them anymore

Here is a crap photo of the ultem on the clone

It fits but: the air hole on the cap is tear drop shaped, like the authentic. The air flow hole on the clone is just oval, kinda pill shaped

Sorry, used the computer camera cause I don't feel like doing it the harder way, lol

Anyways, that is how it looks with the cap flush with the bottom of the clone's deck

On the other hand, the cap on this one can slide down past the bottom of the deck if you wanted to do something elaborate like push the cap past the bottom to keep the air from being restricted, then adjusting your mod to accommodate that

So wonky, probably livable, but not winning any beauty pageants. Good to know. Thanks for taking the time!

ETA: in case it didn't get clear in the question, I meant the built in drip tip was the no go for me, not the 510

Oh, misunderstood I guess

Standard 510 DT will not fit in the clone's stock cap - I tried a lot of different ones, including friction fit, etc

The hole is just a tad too wide
