Looks like your swivels are pulled tight (straight) at rest. Try to leave a tiny bit of slack. Just enough to let the swivels bow down a tiny bit. When you pull the trigger on your drill, it will naturally pull your drill farther back creating even more tension.

If you pull into your swivels, they will bind up and not spin freely.

And, did you try the ziploc trick?

Dang thanks for the heads up on Lightening Vapes...I was about to place an order with them tomorrow! What websites would be a good choice then?

My top 3 preferences in order are:

https://temcoindustrial.com/
http://www.masterofclouds.com/
https://store.coilsociety.com/

Sometimes you can find some spools on eBay cheaper than buying directly from the shops websites.

You're not drinking water are you?! You realize that stuff is found in antifreeze!?!

Am i supposed to have 2 swivels? I used 2 before then went back to 1

Redundancy is good. In case one fails, there's another to back it up.

There are actually 3 there. 2 bearing swivels and a swvl.

I feel better with more swivels.

The swvl tells me if I am pulling too tight. The fishing swivels have less resistance. But the swvl will turn with more tension. So if the swvl turns (or worse, all-out spins) that means I am pulling too hard and siezing up my fishing swivels.

Dude, that wire is gonna fly all over the place.

It doesn’t when you grab the drill. Or, at least, when I do. Pic is of the swivels without my hand on the drill.

If I had it taut when I I am not even holding the drill, it ends up way too tight, and I would, personally, snap the wire at the chuck. Pulling the trigger leans the drill back some.

At least, what works for me.

If your wire is slapping around, it is too loose. Hold your drill hand a little tighter back.

It’s a fine line between flapping wire, perfect tension, and snapping at the chuck.

Crazy Chef has put a lot more miles on his drill than I have. Plus, he was already upgraded to version 2. I am still working with my original software.

I, on the other hand, am a hack that figured out how to make some cool shit by wasting countless hours cussing at lifeless snarls of wire.
Well I still stand by it . You both make amazing coils.

Made a quick unpolished video to illustrate what I was trying to say about how I find the sweetspot with core tension. Probably easier to see it in action than deciphering my written post. The slight wobble will absolutely go away when the wrap wire is attached. You want as little tension as possible on the wrap, but it still does add some tension onto your cores/swivels. So it will straighten out the slack.

I was looking on Lightening Vapes website and they have a tool called the Deadalus by AvidArtisan....is that worth the investment? If so would it be better to just get the coil jig or should I buy it with the drill? TIA!

i got one for testing and found that its great for making fused claptons easily for people who dont want to learn anything passed that (in terms of difficulty). fused claptons are a great vape, and are easy to configure to anything from tubes to series. they are the best balance of performance versus difficulty in my opinion...but the deadalus has its issues as well (its automatic, but there is a learning curve, and always a possibility of a failed build due to random things like poorly spooled wire), and its easy to argue that making them the normal way (drill+swivels) is just as easy after you get the hang of it. my room mate got a working pair on her first try, and a perfect pair on her second. its not as hard as it sounds...and theres lots of info on the forums.

edit - heres a link to the deadalus thread

@CrazyChef v2.0 thats a lovely set of posts/pics man  (save me some chili)

I try to keep as neat as I can. Got some tools coming in mail. Hope there here before Xmas. This hobby keeps me sober, I help and share with my family in the rooms, and here.

Wow, making Clapton’s looks so complicated....what are the basic tools I will need to start Claptons? Not going to start them right now, but want to start getting things together for when I am ready.....

Not really, it's actually pretty damn easy. Here's a great Video to watch which for me was what clicked with me and after a couple of failures it just clicked.

Give it a watch, try it out and you'll get to the point where you're knocking them out in no time.
