What does it mean "DUAL USE" referring to cigar and e-cig?

Hi,all. I am a new comer and have little knowledge on e-cig. when i questioned whether vaping will work to help to quit smoking, some friends answer me to try Dual Use. i wonder what it means, cigarette and e-cigarette alternates?

It doesn't work either believe me, I smoked an used my e cig for months & found I just had to stop full stop. I still get cravings everyday but you just gotta have willpower. People who say "I just stopped no problem, they are just horrible" are full of shit. Why would you smoke if you don't like it?? And I doubt you can just stop without a craving at all!

What it meant to me was, not having to drop cigarettes like a hot rock, but to gradually transition, which worked very well for me. My techniques varied; sometimes procrastination -- "right now I'll vape, and later on, I'll go out and smoke" -- that "later on" kept getting further and further out, sometimes didn't happen at all, as the days went by. Another technique I used was to make a game of it, to compete with myself -- I kept a tally sheet of every actual cigarette smoked each day, and the next day, tried to smoke fewer, or at the very least, not more. That also worked very well. The main consideration is that you just keep vaping, and trying to substitute vaping for smoking more and more often; for me, the end result of that was before a month was up, cigarettes no longer tasted good to me, and I found their smell totally repugnant, and I realized that I wasn't getting anything from those cigarettes that I couldn't get from vaping -- except that bad taste and smell.

But here's the thing: even if those techniques work well for you, at some point, there does come a time when you have to make a choice: do I keep smoking, or do I just vape? If you're serious about it, and really WANT to be a non-smoker, that choice won't seem difficult at all; or, it might require a real act of will that *seems* hard, scary, etc.... that decision, that commitment, is actually the hardest part of the whole thing -- fear will hold you back, when there's actually nothing to fear.

Don't take your particular case for a generality.. Everybody is different. Me, I smoked 3 packs a day for 25 years and I quit overnight the day I tried my first ecig. No cravings, no nothing. I quit, just like that. Or rather, I feel like I never did stop smoking: I just switched to something else and the transition was totally seamless.

I tried the Dual Use while I was attempting to cut down after almost 40 Years of a PAD Marlboro Red Habit. When I realized I was only kidding myself I was cutting down, I quit cold turkey and it was the roughest two weeks I ever experienced. Thank goodness I had a major league supply of cartridges for my e-Cigs and multiple batteries. I still craved a cigarette for months but stuck to my guns and never bought another pack. 3 years and counting now.

The only time I heard the term "dual-use" in the world of vaping is for mods that can vaporize e-liquid as well as herbs.

How can you just quit without cravings??

Well, I did. I didn't ask for having it easy, sorry :) In fact, among the vapers I know, most quit smoking about as easily as I did, and those who still struggle with tobacco cravings are a minority.

I know plenty of people who quit cold turkey and did not have vaping but they sure did take a good whiff of one of my freshly lit Marlboro cigs and said that smelled so good. I would say people who do not experience withdrawals is the minority and not the other way around. Just my opinion mind you as I consider the withdrawals I experienced to a heavy droog user.

Reread what I wrote:

I am not only talking about some inner circle I am referencing what I have seen in real life and on many forums. From what I have seen posted not having craving is a rarity. Just browse some of the threads on here.

Dual use didn't work for me. Cigs have many chemicals, not just nic, that my body/brain craved. I set the cig-a-like aside and kept smoking. Nic alone wasn't enough.

Two years later I tossed the cigs. I tore up the house looking for the cig-a-like to take the edge off. Chain vaped till I was nic sick. Ordered more modern vape gear cuz the cig-a-like wasn't cutting it. Finally got the 'other' cig chemicals out of my system and am now a vaper.

For me, it was best kick the cig chemicals all at once, keeping the nic and the hand to mouth habit(vaping) to keep me busy.

That's what I did too, just vaped & vaped. Dual use to me actually just made me crave cigarettes more!

One of my first threads on VU was asking if others chain vaped as much as I did, lol. I called my vape, my binky.

Instant switch for me as well, hated to hear it when I found out it wasn't that easy for others. I liked cigs, but I like vaping more. It's not a replacement for me as much as it's an upgrade, like everything about it more. People would apologize for smoking in front of me knowing I just quit and I didn't even pay attention or notice they were until they said something.

Others often ask me to pick them up cigs at the store, one day I realized not once did I consider getting some for myself.

I found it *almost* that easy, the first time around, though I had to work up my courage to actually lay down the smokes and leave them down, but it seemed pretty easy, once I did. The 2nd time, after my month-long relapse to dual use, was a good bit more challenging, but I'm not sure it was all about my "addiction;" it was immediately following a really nasty appendectomy, and apparently my innards actually needed some of the other tobacco alkaloids -- at least, when I added WTA, the cravings vanished and never returned, which allowed me to wean slowly from the WTA. I think it was the anti-inflammatory properties of some of the minor tobacco alkaloids that I needed, and once I could supply those, my urge to smoke disappeared completely.

switch from smoking to vaping. I wonder whether vaping is addictive? I am not sure whether to begin my vaping journey. thanks a lot and best wishes.

If you smoke cigarettes and desire an alternative which reduces the overall harm of that dependency, then vaping kind of fits. We cannot tell any that vaping is tobacco cessation product or method, nor can we technically say it is safer than tobacco use. We may say it reduces harm.

If you vape using nicotine, yes vaping can be addictive as nicotine itself is addictive. This is what many vapers do too. We've found a better alternative for ourselves. Some are stepping down on how much nicotine they use, some are not, some are going to quit nicotine and some not. Regardless, we've found a way that works for us. It might work for you, or not.

You can also vape without any nicotine, simply enjoying all the lovely flavor profiles in our juices. I'm using a nice six to eight fruit blend which is cut with unflavored juice to make it last longer. It is a rather tasty flavor I stumbled on and had help in mixing up for my private use. Others can use it if they like, I call it Nirvana juice. I do not sell it, will give out the recipe freely ... once I recall where it ran off to. :)

The standard advice is if you're not vaping already, or using tobacco products, consider not vaping. Nothing is more healthy and allegedly poses no risk than breathing fresh, clean air. We offer this not to discourage anyone from vaping. You can vape as merely a hobby even. We do not genuinely judge one another too horribly as fellow vapers, unless you go acting all totally stupid, even then you'll at worst be called stupid. Understand many of us strongly dislike of stupid.

We can admit dumb mistakes though. Everyone has those moments of fumbling, it happens. Learn from it, try not to repeat it. If you choose to not learn from it then, you start stepping toward being stupid. Understand the only dumb or stupid questions are those left unasked. If I'm not around here, someone will be and someone will try to help, answer your question/s. :)

Well, at least welcome to the forum. :)

I guess I'm one of the lucky ones. I smoked 2+ PAD for 50 years and was able to quit cold turkey. Every time I craved a cig I vaped and found the craving went away after 2 - 3 hits. But I was vaping 24mg in a CE4 type atty (gas station crap) so lots of nic. At one point I occasionally used 18mg in an RDA just for the nic rush but it's harsh as all get out. Worked my way down to 3mg in a short while. When I relisted it was the ceremony of smoking that I liked the cravings stopped. Good luck quitting your body will love you for it.

It is the 6,999 other chemicals in cigarettes that are truly addictive and added by Big Tobacco to keep you addicted. Just my opinion............
so your opinion is to switch from cig to e-cig? thanks a lot and best wishes to you.

Thank you very much for your patient reply. The analysis is very objective and realistic. I do have read in detailed and studied carefully, and have been benefited a lot. Best of luck.

Okay, I must be one of the lucky few then :)

I was one of the lucky ones, too. It was completely unexpected. I was born to a smoking mother, raised in a house full of smoke (both parents and all adult friends and relatives smoked, it was the socially acceptable thing back then), and then I started smoking them myself when I was 13. So I've smoked my entire life, until two and a half years ago when I tried my first cigalike. I went six whole HOURS without a cigarette (until the cigalike died), and I thought maybe I could do it. I had always told myself I loved smoking and I'd never quit, but it was because I was afraid to try and fail. And I knew I'd fail. However, a silly Ego pen vape and some 18mg liquid got me off cigarettes immediately. The day after I started using my new vape, I lit a cigarette to see if it was nice or nasty, and I couldn't smoke the whole thing. That was my last puff of tobacco. Apparently, I didn't really love smoking, deep down I REALLY wanted to quit, and vaping allowed me to do that. It was a miracle. :)

For me, when I go out with friends and drink some beer and stuff, theres nothing better than a marlboro Red hanging out of the mouth.

For me, thats on bad thing in vaping, I cant just hold it and fire without using my hands, and I love the taste of marlboro golds and reds.

I am nearly chain vaping at 6mg and still I need that softbox of reds when I go out

You "need" it because you tell yourself you need it, because you want it. If you told yourself you didn't need it, and meant it, and repeated it often enough, pretty soon you wouldn't. ;) Give yourself permission to not need it... you'll be amazed. ;)
