Priming

So I think I'm doing something wrong when I prime my coils, I'm putting 5-6 drops in each of the ports then letting it soak in a full tank 5 minutes before I use it, but the coils I prime last half or less than half as long as the ones my more experienced friends are priming, advice?

Depends what coils you're talking about...some can absorb a eye-dropper full of juice.

Kanthal coils with cotton wicking material made for the smok v8 stick with big baby beast tank, and after 5-6 drops it starts running out around the port

Well I'm kinda stuck with my stick for a while, any idea how to make the time less painful? Because I'm a committed vaper but sadly massively ignorant on the topic, so I would appreciate help on how to deal with the almost instant burnt taste and what to replace my mod with when I'm able

Unsweetened juice?

Usually sweet juice is the death of a coil. Try to find something without much sweetener.

How can I find one without sweeteners when it turns out even the juice I use that isn't sweet at all is loaded with them

Prolly have to make your own, which is the best juice, CHEAP too.

Well, I would make my own if I could afford the setup, which is also the reason why I'm still stuck with a smok mod

Honestly my biggest regret is getting rid of my first Vape, it was a kanger of some sort, had silica wicks, tanks lasted forever, clouds were decent, not to mention so thick they looked solid, but best of afford the coils didn't require priming and lasted 3-4 months a piece

Yeah, I hear that.... these low ohm factory coils are usually garbage.

Idk, even if they do I don't have the slightest clue how to build a coil,
Watch a bunch of Youtube videos, it's quite simple when you have the right gear to make um.

You surely don't need exotic coils, just a simple single or dual coils, worked for me for years. Still use single wrap coil once in awhile.

I used to take a safety pin or something very fine and sharp to poke a hole in the side to help the juice prime the cotton inside out from being so compact in those types of coils.

Tbh I don't think I can make my own coils, I'm in between jobs and even tho I'm of legal age to Vape if my parents, who are kindly letting me stay with them until I can afford an apartment, would kick me out if they found out I Vape because they are religious nuts and think vaping will send you straight to Hell

Your parents sound like reasonable people... One of the most important steps to priming is slowly stepping up the wattage to break it in. Firing it at full wattage straight away can fry the coil. Problem with your smok stick is you cannot adjust the wattage so you are unable to properly break in the coil.

Would really short hits at first help?

Smok coils are notorious for badly compacted coils.I remember when I used to use those things baby beast big baby beast and cloud beast those short hits did nothing until I started poking holes in them. Not too many holes though because it will leak.I bought a box of 5 coils only 1 of those worked.Guess which one I poked holes in.

I figure that rather than start a new thread maybe I can just ask since coils are the main topic of this thread anyways, what coils and/or wicking material offer the best nicotine delivery? And if there is one better than what I'm using now is there a pre made version that I can buy?

I've tried three, and it's good for flavor, but six is barely enough for me but my favorite flavors don't come higher than six

Looking to buy a new mod and tank, I'd like too give silica wicks a try again, what brand/ mods and tanks are good for this?

Eleaf HW series of coils fit the Smok baby and big baby tanks. No leaking problems for me, and the HW1 is now stainless steel so you can do temp control with your baby and big baby tanks (although not with your Smok stick). Maybe the Eleaf is worth a try.

I'd say it's the junk Smok coils. They are hit and MISS.

Yeah and I was quite surprised that SMOK’s support is even worse than Pioneer4You’s. P4You won’t update their firmware but SMOK won’t even reply to emails!

Had to figure out on my own and on these boards that the coil legs in one of their prebuilt coils was shorting. I had cleaned it out and hadn’t noticed when I put it back together.

Even if you don’t build your own coils, you can buy pre built coils for like 16$ for 48 coils on amazon. Fancy ones too, aliens, fused Clapton’s, they’ll take you to flavourtown, baby.

I think a dual battery squonk mod with temp control would be a nice start, allow you lots of flexibility and future proof your setup. Even if you don’t squonk, you probably will at some point. And they’re very similarly priced to non Squonk Mods. A Geekvape Gbox would be a solid get.

In terms of attys, if I had to start over I’d make a bee line for a 22ml dripper. Either a drop solo or a wasp.
