Are you buying or leasing your pet? (Not joking.)

This is a new one on me — maybe you, too. Pet leasing: apparently, it’s a thing. And there are many people who paid money not knowing they were actually renting their new pets instead of owning them. Here’s how that happens.

Since pets can be expensive — even a few thousand dollars — some pet stores offer financing plans. You sign an agreement to make payments toward ownership — or so you think. You may unintentionally sign up to make costly, extended lease-to-own payments that add up to about twice the list price of the pet. As you’re paying over what could be years, the company still owns your pet. When the lease is up, you may have to pay additional costs to actually own it.

If by some tragedy the animal gets lost, stolen or killed, you could still be on the hook for the payments. You might not get a refund – or might still have to make more payments to get out of the contract. And, if you miss a payment, the company has the right to take away your pet — which can be stressful for you, your family and your pet.

So, whether it’s pooches or parrots, understand what you’re actually paying for before you sign anything. If a retailer doesn’t make the terms of an agreement clear to you or misrepresents the terms of the agreement, they could be breaking the law — especially if the retailer runs ads leading you to believe one thing but sells you another. Also, learn more about how buying plans work, including understanding the terms of your purchase agreement. And let the FTC know if you were taken in by purchase agreement terms that were unclear or undisclosed.

There are MANY comments to this announcement at the FTC website.

If any dog lovers are near Ripley, WV we've three dogs in need of good homes. They are Great Pyrenees, Golden Lab mixes. Two weigh roughly 80 lbs, third weighs just a little less. All are of very mild to sweet temperament. All have been neutered/spayed ans are current on rabies vaccinations.

Wife has a lady who can possibly take them for a big rescue adoption run/event. Not exactly sure when she'll be able to get to them though and we're drawing nearer to a moving date. Thought I would post here if any could offer good homes. We can meet someone in Ripley, bring you here to the house to see them/pick them up.

They managed to pull the board away from their "door" in the hut we have them housed in. It was fine though, they stayed in their pen. I'll need to out smart one of them who takes to figuring out that door. *chuckles*

What sedative did she give those dogs? I need it for Duke. He is a big crying baby during his bath.

Right? Mine never get baths unless they absolutely need them (like if they've rolled in something nasty) because trying to keep a 75 pound boxer in the tub who's terrified of baths or an 85 pound bulldog who just hates them in the tub is a nightmare. My velcro boxer always follows me into the bathroom while I pee and guards me while I shower but won't come anywhere near the bathroom for a month after she gets a bath. :giggle:

Understand all of that. Emma, she is good during her baths and she protects me the same as your velcro boxer does. Duke he just follows her around acting like he is protecting me :giggle:
There has been only one time I actually heard him bark. As you know husky wolf mixes don't bark. Emma was going off, her bark was different this time more aggressive. Something outside they did not like. I grabbed my shot gun... go outside to have looksie with a flash light (at this time I didn't have my monocular night vision) and couldn't see anything, but that doesn't mean whatever was out there was gone....we went inside.
I have seen a cougar standing on the wood pile that is behind the fence about 10 yards. So I wondered if that is what they were barking at.(?) I know it wasn't coyotes...deer...turkey, from Emma's aggressive barking.

You are sooooo lucky to have dogs that rarely, if ever, bark. My dogs bark at the molecules moving in the air. If they actually hear something, they go nuts. Doorbells and knocks on the tv make them insane. My bulldog is literally sitting at my feet barking at nothing. I do love to hear when he starts trilling (you can hear it at the end of this video). I just filmed this a few minutes ago.

Thanks, Khassy. LOL. I feel for ya, Khassy. When we go for rides, she barks at other dogs in vehicles...statues...bird baths...cows...horses you name it she barks. But, my moms dogs are little ankle biter chihuahuas, they bark at everything, drives me crazy when I'm there, I'm just not use to it. Parents can sit right through it without blinking an eye  I am ready to :kickbutt: LOL.

I can't view your video. Will you re-post it?

I uploaded it to Youtube. Shouldn't have a problem now. Dunno what Facebook's issue is sometimes. lol

It's much like with a kid hanging off you going "mom,mom,mom,mom,mom,mom,mom,mom,mom,mom,mom,mom..." You learn to tune them out most of the time. :D Kaylee is fierce, as long as she's in the house. When the Culligan Water dude comes every 2 weeks, she goes insane, barking up a storm when she hears the truck backing into the driveway. But open the door and let her out and as soon as she sees him, she bolts back into the house, barking from inside the threshold with her hackles at full attention. :giggle::giggle::giggle: Kai doesn't really bark at people he sees, he just goes tearing off to meet them. Of course, strangers see a very large, squat dog running full speed at them and have a heart attack. :giggle::giggle:

Thank you, for posting it again. LOL. Kaylee's bark is great compared to ankle biters high pitch bark, that's what gets the ears. Even when we talk on the phone, their piercing bark comes right through the phone, I have to hold the phone away from my ear, LOL. I could handle Kaylee's bark, no problem. Just make sure Kai doesn't do that, if a cop comes to your home. They might just shoot him. I would hate for you to go through that.

Oh, that's Kai in the video. Kaylee's the white boxer in the crate behind him. :D We have to keep them separated because a couple of years ago, she suddenly decided she wanted to be an only child and kept trying to eat Kai. So we switch them out every 2 hours. She sleeps in our bed and Kai sleeps in my younger son's room.

As far as Kai running at cops, I hope that never happens. Unfortunately, to get to our backyard, they have to go out a door on the side of the house then go around to the back. They're both pretty good about going out and back, and we always supervise them. But sometimes, if Kai sees someone walking across the street, he wants to go say hi. Usually, we can head him off but once in awhile, he gets past us.
