Help! I keep burning out coils!

I have the Smok Cloud beast TFV 8 and 12. I buy the 0.15 ohm coils for both and use the Fuchai 213w mod. I usually Vape between 55 and 70 Watts depending on the tank. I am a heavy vapor but I’m changing coils every 2-3 days consistantly. I’m thinking it may be my juice since I tend to use the candy flavors but I was thinking I should at least get 1 week out of the coils. Any advice is appreciated.

Smok coils are hit or miss. Sometimes they last, sometimes they don't.

How are you priming the coil?

I get an average of 5,000 puffs out of my X4 Baby Beast coils vaping them at 30W or less. Doesn't matter what e-Liquid I vape even creamy desert or fruits. Proper priming and break in by slowly increasing the wattage helps.

with the smok tanks and coils i feel 2-4 days is an average length to use it 5 if your'e lucky but they tend to last about 800-1000 puffs depending how often you fill it. If you let it go like halfway below the cotton barrier then they're going to burn out faster but if you keep enough liquid in there to keep the cotton submerged i feel they last longer i have the tfv8 baby beast but i feel the same applies to the tfv12. Which coils do you buy? cause I've used the m2 which are the weakest coils that have a a resistance of .25ohms and a wattage variation of 0-50 with a recommended range of 35-50 for best perfomance and those are the ones that tend to last the longest because of the low wattage i also have the t8 quad replacements which are the ones that have 4 coils in them and they seem to go the fastest from my experience at 40-50 watts and they have a resistance of .160 ohms and a wattage variation of 0-110 with a recommended range of 60-80 for best perfomance and one thing ive noticed about these is if you chain puff with one of those, it heats your tank up to 130degrees at times from what i noticed using my mod at 40w that has a temperature gauge that can tell you how hot the coil/atomizer is getting, and that definitely makes a difference on coil lifespan

the longest ive had a smoke coils last was like 5 or 6 days and for like the last day or 2 of using it, it started to get a harsh taste and it was kind of burning my throat so I really pushed that coil to its breaking point. Its better to spend a bit more money and replace the coils more often than damage your throat using a bad coil in my opinion. One way you can kind of tell when the coil needs replacing is you open up the swivel cover and then you take a flash light and look down in the hole if the top of the coil starts looking really dark brown you want to start considering changing the coil in the near future but if you see black its time to change the coil. Another thing i do that i think helps extend the life of the coil is I take a q-tip peel off most of the cotton but leave a little bit i stick it in the hole and if it doesnt fit in with space i peel more off because if its too fat and is resisting when you stick it in, its going to damage the coils placement and possible pull the coil out of where its sitting. But what i do with the q tip is stick it inside when its the right size and run it around the inside walls of the coil trying to get some of the burned on crap off and i go from bottom to top doing this motion and if the q-tip comes out really dirty i use the other side and do it again and that can sometimes even help make the vapor smooth again rather than harsh and only do this if the q-tip can actually fit inside the center of the coil because it wont fit in all the coils like the t8-quad coils i have they're too small to fit a q-tip inside them.

How are you priming the coil?

I saturate the coil and usually let it sit 2 hours or overnight. I’ve bought coils from a local store to online. Always have issues.

I am leaning towards you need to slowly work up the wattage after priming. I actually flood my coils with e-Liquid and blow backwards because I don't want to wait.

I’ve also seen where people use a pin to poke holes in the cotton since most of the time the cotton is packed pretty tight to help the liquid get saturated.

So start at the recommended wattage and work my way up. Makes sense. I willl try that. Thank you.

No, start lower and work your way up. That is why I vape the X4 coils at 30W or below because that is the sweet spot I found for me.

Nobody wants to hear this but maybe its time to look for a new tank. Cut your losses before you waste anymore money.

No I actually did start to look for another tank. I haven’t had this one long but I’d rather buy another one than change out coils every 2 days. Any suggestions on a new tank?

It's been awhile since I used a subohm tank but the only one I've ever had success with is the Herakles plus. The coils are consistent and last for weeks. In my experience with smok coils, they always lasted long but had a machine oil taste I couldn't stand.

Edit to add, the most recent smok tank I've owned is the baby beast that I got in trade. Can't remember the coils I was using but they all tasted like machine oil.

Maybe that is why I never experienced an oily taste in any the the Smok coils I am currently using? Old outdated info that is not current.......

maybe your not inhaling hard and fast enough on your tank when you puff it making it so the coils dont get a necessary amount of liquid cause i puff mine so that the air going through the air flow valve makes a pretty loud noise and i get some pretty thick clouds if you dont want a thick could just puff it hard for only like 2-4 seconds i suggest trying this usually i puff it for like 5-8 seconds hard and fast

Honestly I have always had the same problem. It's because of the sweet juice. The best solution that I have found is not for the faint of heart. If you get the RBA coil which is the rebuildable I get 2-3 weeks out of each build. Sometimes after a few weeks I clean the coils and put fresh cotton and it works like new. And them sometimes I rebuild the coils and use fresh cotton. Either way if you think that you could rebuild the RBA coil would be the way to go.

Smok coils only lasting a couple of days is a VERY common complaint.
ECR is full of threads on it.

Horizontech Arco 2 coils reputedly have very good coil life and excellent flavor, also compatible with original Arco coils that are proven having been around awhile. RTA is the best solution, but building is not everyone's cup of tea.

I have a coil in my Rafale at the moment that just today I realized is probably over a month old and I can go thru 20-30 MLs in a day when I am using it! No puff counter on the MOD I use it with.

Speaking from personal experience, I would stay away from the crown or anything by uwell for that matter. If I was going to avoid one single tank from the uwell line up, it would definitely be the Rafael or rafail as I call it. The coils were absolute shit and if they have not already discontinued the coils they soon will. Just do a quick google search on crown or uwell coils.

The actual tanks are great; nice machining, good tolerance and appealing astheics. All that is worthless if the coils are shit.

those are the dual smok coils right and their wattage variance is like 40-70w?

X4 are the Quad coils and I never go by the recommended wattage I am vaping them 25% lower then the lower end of the listed range because like I said I start low and work my way up. Found the sweet spot there. When you take long pulls using wattage I find it is much better to run lower.

From a website for the T8 Baby Coils

The SMOK Baby V8-T8 features a quad barrel, octo coil setup and is designed to enhance flavor while still allowing you to vape at higher wattage. If you love clouds, this is the Baby Beast coil for you!

No because smok tends to go overboard with their recommendation range, since they want you to buy those damn coils lol. Here's my experience and how I made them work as I started vaping, and got sold smok mod and tanks as starter setup. By now I moved on to building myself and you will see in a second why I made the change. Smok coils are that high maintenance GF/BF nobody wants, or that child that cries every 3 second for attention purposes only lol.

Let's start here:

Grab the pack of your coils and unpack
Find a very thin needle or safety pin, now on the outside of that metal sleeve, you'll see pockets. Poke 2-4 holes into each pocket, beneath or above the wire. Do not fully insert the pin/needle you do not want to go fully through. This is only recommended with high VG juices, starting at 70/30 and up. If you vape thinner, let's say 60/40 or 50/50 one hole is enough. If you vape more pg dominant juices than skip that step.
After you're done with that, drop the juice into each outer pocket as well as the inner area. Don't worry if it gets on the wire, rather too much because you can blow that out later, then being sorry and end up with burnt.
Now reassemble your tank and fill it, without pressing the fire button take 4-8 drags.
Let stand at least 15 minutes.
Now start at 30 watt, yes I'm aware nothing comes out of these coils at that range but it helps the break in. Take 2-3 hits, now increase to 35 watts, same thing. Work your way up like that till you like it. Out of experience I caped the x4 @ 43-48 watts and the t6/8 at around 50-58 depending on my mod. Make sure you stay a tad bellow recommendation or right at the recommended starting range, of course only if that's satisfying for you, but don't start at 50 etc lol.

Even with all that, these coils will only last couple of days if heavily used. One more tip, if using high VG juices give that coil time to catch up. Meaning wait a minute or two between pulls, or shorten the length overall. Gl

yeah it takes a bit to figure out the best way to vape with these tempermental smok coils, how long the coils tend to last, how often and when you should change them, cause sometimes it seems like you need to change the coil from the taste and the feel of the vapor, whether its hot or just right you instead though you might have not been paying attention and need to refill it cause the tank is empty and your getting a dry hit making hot vapor which happened to me just last night but it wasnt the first time it did, or your chain puffing it so often that your heating up the tank making the vapor hot which can also make it seem like you need to change the coil but i seemed to have figured it out even without putting the pin holes i feel like doing that will just flood your coil and make liquid pool in the air flow basin and make it so when you tilt your mod to puff it your going to get a nice surprise of juice pouring out running down the side and smeared on your hand and the side of your mod which has happened to me even without the pinholes and i can only imagine how much worse the pinholes could make that experience

The are parallel coils in each hole as per the description.
So it's like double wrapped you mean like a peice of wire is folded in half and wrapped into a coil? I think I remember that now that you mention it cause I took apart a peice of shit coil that was spent just to see how much shit was burned to it and I'm pretty sure it was a single peice of wire folded in half to make basically a double coil

IMG_0929.JPG So these are the coils I use and I've had it in for about 72 hours now and it' still tastes good is giving me good vapor not hot, harsh, or burning my throat. I've been vaping at 60-70 watts and I've puffed it 750+ times and it's seems like it's good for another 250-400 so I definitely am doing something right since usually I'd be changing this specific coil right about now but maybe the difference is I'm using a new mod

I don't see how four of these is octuple as far as I can tell it's quadruple it's not like they're double wrapped.(picture is a t8 baby beast cool stretched out)
