I have no idea why my coils are doing this.. I'm new to coils but i know how to set them up. So this problem happened about 2 weeks ago when i made a NI80 6 wrap dual micro coil they vaped great! so 2 days past of vaping on them and i noticed a weird burnt smell, so i looked at my coils while pulsing and i noticed one of the coils were glowing red while pulsing, fired it a couple more times then "bam" coils caught fire.. anyone know why this happened? because it's happening again.. Seems to always happen on the 2nd or 3rd day of vaping on them. :(

Is the cotton catching fire? I don't use ni80 but there's plenty that do. Maybe not wicking fast enough to keep up with the heat. Ni80 ramps fast if I'm not mistaken.

@Wtmke1 What do you mean by (Maybe not wicking fast enough) ? Also it's doing the same thing with my kanthal wire also.. Can't vape until i fix this issue, it keeps on happening.. :( (It's not the rda, same thing with my Dead Rabbit and my Drugga)

ok some questions:
do you make sure the coils are glowing evenly before you wick them?
what is your resistance?
what wattage are you trying to run them at?
why are you holding the fire button down long enough to ignite your wicks?
are you making sure there is enough juice on the wicks?

the wicking fast enough question is regarding how tightly the wick is in the coil. if its too tight, it wont suck any juice into itself, or at least it wont do that fast enough to stay wet in between you vaping it.

Try SS316L because it is the cleanest tasting regularly consistent coil material I found so far. Just my opinion

Maybe the cotton is too tight inside the coil. So the juice can't wick fast enough and is drying out the cotton inside the coil.

Probably needs to figure out why his coils are catching fire first. But I second the ss.

I live off Nichrome. If your not hitting the vape while pulsing it can sometimes ignite. That's why airflow is so important. It's oil vaping at somewhat high temperature. Let a short pop up and ignite the oiled aerosol, I've had it happen.

Some studies have shown with cotton tighter is better. I try to get it snug without bunching up. I'll say tighter the cotton the less airflow and breathing ability. Loose cotton would ignite way faster than tight wicking.

If it's too tight it won't wick. Snug is good. If it's so tight that you move the coils then it's too tight

I've pulsed plenty of coils in ss, k, and n. I think he is saying that they are glowing red, and then catch fire. If they are glowing red any cotton in the coil (and I doubt that's what he's saying anyway) would have burnt off, at least in my limited experience.

I would be suspicious of the juice. Some juices with a lot of sweeteners gunk up coils really quickly. I have some strawberry shit that is dark red. Absolute coil killer. If the juice is leaving substantial deposits that may be the problem. Outside of that I've never had any metal spontaneously combust at the temps vape mods are capable of. My dragons breath forge... That's another story. :)

Wow. Is there cotton in it. I just don't see wet cotton doing that. That's crazy as hell. How long do you hold the button to get that to happen

Yes there is cotton in it and it's wet.. What happens is it actually smells burnt and tastes burnt, also less vapor production.. So i know right away if it's doing it. I don't ever go past 4 second hits.

I've set eliquid on fire, just like you did. I just didnt hold the fire button without pulling air past the coils, anymore. Are your airflow holes lined up with your coils? You must like a hot vape, the wattage looks pretty high for a 4 second puff, in my opinion...

I would suggest making sure the air holes in your RDA cap are directly beside your coils, and turn wattage down or take shorter, harder pulls (faster air flow by inhaling more strongly)

What kind of flavor e-liquid do you use? Some flavorings have enough ethyl alcohol to be flamable easily like that

Yes.. I guess it might be the way i put my cotton, or someone said my coils could be too tight together.
