Hello everyone, my name is Meg. I am a smoke-free vaper with a 9-year history of trying to quit...and trying...and trying, and finally getting and staying quit.

I tried Chantix first, bad idea. It really did something to my brain, I became suicidal shortly after stopping the medication. I did, however, quit smoking for the first time, so I had the experience of what being smoke-free feels like after years of smoking cheap, "full flavor" cigarettes like I was an angry steam engine.

But I didn't stay quit.

I quit cold turkey another time, smoke free for two weeks that time I think. Chugging juice and super-cleaning my apartment 5 times (and not going outside for 3 days) worked that time, but didnt STAY QUIT!

2013 I tried Blu cigarettes. They tasted wonderful and I liked the novelty, but they didn't satisfy and two little batteries wasnt enough for me to use them as much as I needed. So no quitting.

Tried Ego and no-brand clearomzer after I found out I was pregnant, now I was super motivated. Couldnt stay quit.

Bought a Halo G5 kit in the Spring of 2015. It was okay...tasted good, and I was smart enough then at least to bump up the nicotine to 24mg. It helped, I smoked less, but didnt quit all the way and also got nicotine sick several times :(. That's when I started looking at vape forums online and shopping...and shopping
...and regretting purchases...and shopping lol

Then I bought a Horizon Arctic, I liked it but I couldnt go over 30 or 40 watts with the box I had. Kanger Subox Mini Kit, immediately messed with the RBA coil but didn't like how tight the air was, then Horizon Arctic put on it, and I finally could go without cigarettes, no more frustration. Then I did a bunch more shopping, browsing and coil building and eliquid mixing got added on to my vaping hobby, and here I am. I still browse the new stuff but rarely buy, because what I have now works, I can survive with just one RTA and one RX200 now but of course with new flavors to try I like multiple tanks.

I had a mini meltdown in 2016 when I realized how much I had spent on vape gear, it was wayyyyy more than I would have on cigarettes (they are cheaper here than most places, though) so I started giving stuff away to keep myself from obsessing over trying one new variation in all my RDAs and RTAs.

I also didn't stay quit from smoking totally until I decided to stop making it about success or failure, all or nothing. Once I gave myself permission to have a cigarette if I wanted to, I stayed totally quit, odd how my mind works. Every time I did have a cigarette after that decision, they were NEVER worth it, I mean yuck man.

I started my account here about a year ago but I never introduced myself so, hi :)

Tl;dr Hi I'm Meg, clouds bro clouds.

And here I thought you were new! I see you everywhere, so it's nice to meet you.

I'm glad you found what fit for you. Smokes are pretty cheap where I am, too. I couldn't quit right away, but I did smoke less, too. I saw what Chantix did to a very good friend of mine, and it scared the crap out of me. I'm glad you made it through, too.

Congrats! I am the same way. When I quit I kept a pack of smokes in my desk drawer at work. I always knew that if I decided to, I could just go get one. I did not touch them. I do have to admit that last week I did have one. In the past that would have been it. One weak moment and I would have given up completely. This time, though, I had one and then decided that, as nice as it was (and it was nice), it was not my thing anymore. That was 4 days ago and I have not been tempted to go get more.

In my defence, I was left unsupervised ^^

Tl;dr Hi I'm Meg, clouds bro clouds.

You are very welcome, as you've no doubt already figured out from the numerous volleys of msgs in the threads you've visited. ;) I tried 4 times to quit, before I discovered vaping -- cold turkey, lasted 3 months; pregnancy, never could quit but got down to 3-4 cigs a day; and the patch twice, both times lasting about a week before I became so completely off my nut that my son and husband begged me to start smoking again.

Then the winter of 2013-2014 rolled around, and was the coldest winter here in ATL in over 30 yrs -- I'd been an outdoor-only smoker for about 16 yrs at that point, but that winter, I was about to freeze literally to death, hanging out on the front porch with my butts. I'd heard of e-cigs, and a co-worker of my husband's knew I was considering trying them, so he gave my husband a disposable, a "Fin", for me to try. Hated it. The guy suggested I try an Njoy, also a disposable, so I did... it was a *little* better, good TH and soft "mouthpiece" almost like a filter on a butt.... it helped me get thru sitting at the hospital for a whole day with my mom, in Dec 2013, so it passed the Proof of Concept test. Then I tried a Blu, and I thought they totally sucked; tasted like pipe tobacco, not the bitter bite of a cigarette. Gave it away forthwith, and got pissed enough to go to google and type "electronic cigarettes", and found butthead central, a/k/a ECF.... went there, and fell into a deep hole but learned enough to get an eRoll... and got myself down to 1 cig a day within 3 wks of regular use.

I never tried just dropping them like a hot rock, because I already knew, from previous attempts, that it was most unlikely to be successful -- and I really wasn't interested in quitting anyway, I just wanted something I could use indoors when it was really cold outside -- but I found them such a great substitute for coffin nails, it was amazing. Once I'd been at 1 a day for 3 days, I thought, if I can deal with just one a day... I can probably deal just as well without it... so I jumped off... and it worked -- thx entirely to vaping and the support I got over at butthead central.

I ended up having a dual-use relapse after a dreadful appendix thing and even worse recuperation from it, but I was able to successfully go back to vape-only after about a month... and 10 days later it became clear that the cravings weren't done with me, so I got some WTA... and the cravings vanished. So now I've been smoke-free for 3 yrs, 4 months, and change... and STILL have 12 cigs in a pk in a ziplock in the very back of my freezer, because as long as it's MY OWN FREE CHOICE to vape instead of smoke, then I'd much rather vape... Having those tobaccocicles in there KEEPS it my own free choice, no duress of any kind including not having any smokes in the house -- if I really wanted or needed one badly enough, they're in there, growing more tobaccocicle-y every day. :D

Nice to formally meet you Meg! I've seen you around in the DIY section.

That's an inspiring story! I'm glad I didn't do the Chantix, that seem like it is some awful stuff. Yet it is FDA approved and they want to close e-cigs down. Makes no sense to me.

Since I was surprised to win an RDA and semi-mechanical kit, I've decided to get back to coil building again - 7 spools of kanthal are on their way to me, I'm gonna try fancier coil making than before!

Also got silica wick to play with!
