Build journals

Who else keeps a build journal? I think it's a fantastic idea. Just taking a little time to wire down what types of builds in each rebuildable shines. I write down everything I can on a certain build that way when I need to reference something or am building I can replicate the experience verbatim.

This is important. This has helped tremendously with building for my jaybo indestructible RDA. It is a total PITFA to build, but once built, I seriously keep going back to it. Even over a geekvape tsunami. I like side airflow on RDAs.

Lately I've been using HIVE Coils and I love them. Nice dense flavor vape. It's just a tad cooler than the micro coils but the flavor is way way way better. Its a trade off I'll make 9/10 times.

I made a pro board imnot going to reference it, but I think I might use it for my online blog journal of builds.

I do not write down everything, because my taste also changes (summer, winter, type of liquid) Its more intuitive ;)

i´ve tried Hive and Juggernaut and such type, but everytime I vape them, after a while I got a little black crust on the far edges around the coil that are not sitting direct on the wick. And they make a burnt taste at that point as well. Rewicking did not solve the issue so I think its because too much heat on the edges of the coil or not enough liquid, however this happened even with 50/50 liquid.

I like flat coils like Alien or flat Claptons and I think they taste better because they sit evenly on the wick.
Just my thoughts.

I started writing a build journal on my Notes on iPhone. But I think you’re right a proper paper journal would be more efficient as I forget to type in my notes & then can’t remember what build I have in what :D

I do although more on the build front using different ribbon sizes etc takes bloody ages filling out wire wizard when you get some big buggers going
i used to set up build after build in wire wiz and screenshot them so i wouldnt have to ever do it a second time lol...i have a folder of those screenies somewhere still.

lol never thought of that...some of mine required me to utilize the zoom feature of my browser to get a full field of view on that huge ribbon stack

my problem was that when i was doing that i was a bit of a noob still, so a lot of the builds turned out to be stupid/poorly planned/bad performers when it was all said and done. still learned from it though

Yea we all go through that phase. It's a part of maturing and growing in our building. It's like learning how to ride a bike or do anything. Trial and error. I've never experienced anything but good vaping with Hive builds. That being said it was a long journey perfecting my technique.

I don't consider the beginning builds with hive as they were very inconsistent. My technique had opened a ton to where I can get the grooves at about 1.5-2mm. that is part of the hive build. You really want to build by hand. No drill. I used a big ass pad lock and a sharpie. Twist it until it's just right. I've fucked up tons of wire in the process but I've learned so much.

I need to get ahold of more attys and I need a mechanical bad. I feel like building mechanically is the epicenter of building and learning. I love learning more than anything. It frees up my mind.

yeah building for mechs forces you do learn how to do a good build. theres no tc, preheat curves or +/- buttons to bail you out when you make a stupid build/fail an experiment etc. you either make good builds, or get bad vapes. because of that, i can understand why a lot of people dont like mechs, but i like to build, so i dont mind learning how to do it right

If your build is bad, no matter your going to get a shitty vape. Any shitty build is imo amplified sometimes on a regulated.

I agree though, don't build sloppy, don't build to fast. Im big on the belief that your going to get what you YOU PUT IN!

BUILD IT RIGHT THE 1st TIME, won't have to build it again and it'll last longer.

Wire wizard doesn't have the capability to do anything much for me. Last time I tried it was when I was about to do a simple staple coil build, and it did not even understand the correct orientation of the strands of ribbon wire, as it just assumed the ribbon wires should be laid flat next to each other instead of vertical, as became obvious from how the width and height were calculated.

I don't keep notes because I remember everything about my builds that's worth remembering, and actually I haven't done that many builds yet anyway. Most of my builds have been giving me great performance, though... so I'm not too worried. I build for both regulated and mech, and, even though I mostly vape on a mech, I don't throw away a perfectly good coil build just because it turned out that it isn't usable on a mech. There's no point doing that if the flavor production is spectacular on a regulated. But some of my builds are only usable on a mech. For example, three tiger strands made of 28g Kanthal A1 / .3×.1 Kanthal A1 ribbon, put next to each other and then fused together with 38g Nichrome80. It's a nice hot vape that only works with a very limited number of juices, as it ohms out at .24 ohms in the Buddha V4 and I use it on the Vapergate 'The 99', with dual iJoy 26650 batteries:

This is a good idea, I kept a thoughts journals for years and I've lead an interesting life that I am writing a book about it but it would be really cool if I could put about vaping in the book as it is a big part of my life.

@Carambrda I didn't know there was a Buddha V4. I've only just gotten the V2 but it's built really nicely and vapes great so ill be looking up the V4 for sure. Nice build btw :)

 The Buddha V4 is a 30mm RDA the cap and sleeve of which are a bigger version of the cap and sleeve of the Mini Buddha V2, the latter being a 24mm RDA that also is excellent (and very underrated by many) IMO. Vaping Biker's video review of the V4 came out only after I had already bought it, but he is right about the wicking part as well as the airflow, and also IMO he gave highly accurate descriptions─and close-ups─of what this RDA is like.

I like the vaping biker. He's an honest reviewer :)
