Next Generation MTL tanks Part 2

Well, I got my siren 2 last night at the local vape shop. For a $30 tank, it’s built surprisingly well. Taking it apart to clean it before first use, resulted in the upper o-ring getting destroyed. It seemed like it was almost glued to the glass. Glad spares were included.

Performance is great for my MTL preferences. Well adjusted airflow, plenty of vapor, loads of flavor...BUT...it leaks. A lot. Right out the air hole. I built it identically to my trusty KF4. I would guess there’s too much wick, even though the wick is well clear of the air inlets on the deck. Frankly, I just don’t have the desire to fiddle with it. Reminds me very much the old erlfuckinkonigan from way back. It’ll go to the land of failed-rob-vapes-drawer post haste.

Well that's not good, not really heard reports of leaking like the V1, which is one thing that annoyed me the V1, so was thinking they fixed that problem, mine is meant to be here Monday, so will see if have the same problem.

I've been using the Berserker daily since I got it on Monday. It's a fantastic vape, super satisfying and very flavorful. The build was slightly annoying but I'm used to building on RDAs, so naturally an RTA is going to be a little tougher since you're working with less space and a Kayfun-ish deck has the annoying tendency to want to move the leads as you screw down the posts.

I built it with the stock coil that came with it, which are 2x30KA1/38N80 "3mm" fused claptons. They come out to 0.67 ohms for me. They're ever so slightly smaller than 3mm ID, so if you try to insert a 3mm rod, it won't really fit, which made positioning it kind of annoying. When I rebuild, I'm going to try doing what Alex from VapersMD suggested in his video (in Russian, but translated in a YouTube comment I found), which is to pull it on a 2.5mm rod so it's got a 2.5mm ID instead. Despite that annoyance, though, the coil has been performing beautifully. I've been vaping it on the 2nd smallest airflow hole around 20-22 W.

I haven't had any issues with flooding or leaking at all. For the "flooding while filling" issue that many complain about with this RTA, I've been following a tip that Vaping with Vic suggested in his review, which is when you're filling it, as soon as the o-ring grabs, turn the tank upside-down before screwing it down the rest of the way. I haven't had a single bit of flooding when filling as a result.

Got mine today, I got the 24mm black one, and only been using for a few hours, but so far all is going good, will see if it is still behaving in a few days and once I refilled it a few times :)

Yeah seems they nailed it with this one, the best of the new MTL tanks IMO :)

How does it wick and once liquid gets below the deck? Tilt?
Or is that cotton I see touching the bottom?

Ares is in! I only just built it, so I don't have super in depth thoughts, but so far it's performing very well. I built a 26 AWG SS 316L spaced coil, 2.5mm ID, pbusardo style, which would be not even counting wraps, just putting as many as I can reasonably fit inside the deck. It came out to 0.54 ohms. Vaping it in TC on the Vaporshark DNA250 at 20W and 420 degrees.

I'm getting very nice flavor, and a nice strong throat hit with 12mg juice. It was super easy to build and wick, no complaints at all, and I really like the look of the black tank and smoked glass. The airflow is definitely more open than the Berserker at most settings. I'm running it at the second largest single hole right now.

IMO Ares is better than the Siren V2 in flavor, but the top fill is better on the Siren V2, me and others having seeping from the top fill on the Ares, which sucks, as would be perfect if wasn't for that.

Thanks for the review. I MTL but I like a airy hit. Example: Nautilus 2 with airflow totally open. I assume this tank is tighter than the N2?
P.S. I did read your review somewhere. :)
I have the Nautilus 2 as well as the Berserker.

On the nautilus 2 I have the 2 Air holes open. For a semi tight draw. The Berserker I have setup on the 3rd hole. Which is a nice cig like draw for me. I am quite partial to both of these tanks.

Siren 2 is in and built. This time I built a 3mm ID spaced 26 AWG SS coil, since the Siren's deck made me feel like it wanted a larger coil. The coil came out to .55-.56, and I'm currently running it at 28 W, 440F, but I'm still dialing it in; the TC is probably less accurate on the Drag than it is on the DNA250.

So far, I'm getting good flavor, but much less throat hit than the Ares. That could be the 3mm vs 2.5mm coil, though. It could also be that I positioned the coil a bit closer to the airflow holes on the Siren v2 than the Ares. The airflow settings overall feel tighter on the Siren, and the adjustment ring is stiffer. The Ares's airflow feels smoother, and the Siren v2's more turbulent. Overall, the build quality feels a bit higher than the Ares, and the drip tip is nice and snug. However, this isn't to say that the Ares has bad build quality, I just think the Siren v2 feels particularly solid. Again, the build was super easy, as was the wicking. The top fill with quarter turn unlock is great. I really prefer the Siren v2's drip tip to the Ares's.

Some more thoughts on the Ares after a couple of days:

I have noticed some seepage from the top fill area when having it pocketed and going out. It's currently quite cold here in NY, in the upper 30s to low 40s (F) the last two days, so I'm sure that doesn't help. We'll see if the Siren v2 has the same issues. I didn't have any seepage issues with the Berserker, for what it's worth.

Also, with the Ares, I ended up at 22 W, 420 F for the build I mentioned above, and I have been using the 3 smallest airflow holes as my setting. The vape was too throaty and too warm with single airflow hole settings. With the siren, right now I can run it on the largest or second largest single airflow hole, or 3+ of the smaller holes with the multi-setting before it starts to get very warm.

So first off I would like to say. I opened up the package. I thought I would take a look at the user manual. Nuff said. Lol.

Nice packaging though for the Siren V2.

I love my berserker and siren V2. How are you liking the ares?? Seeing as psubardo had input it's definitely on my wish list :)

Siren V2 is awesome but too airy for MTL. I prefer my berserker as of recently but still love my Kayfuns :)

I tried it on the third single hole. No build yet. Just checking out airflow this morning. Quite quiet. And a nice cig like pull.

Been looking at MTL for a while now so what’s the order verdict with everyone? Was watching Vaping with Vic and he’s slammed the ares said it was muted?

Siren V2, Berserker, Ares, Kayfun Prime is what I’m intersted in at the moment

Which has least issues?
Which is your favourite?

I have all 4, and like each in different ways, each have pros and cons.

Kayfun Prime has great flavor, tight airflow, works really well, but more work to fill, as have to close/open juice control and take top off and on, and of course, if don't go for a clone, the big con is the price.

Ares is in top spot for flavor, and is easy to build and wick, I like the design of the top fill, but I am having seeping coming from the top cap though, if wasn't for that, then would be my no.1 choice.

Siren V2 would come last for flavor (but still not bad), again easy to build on, I do love the easy twist off and on for the top fill, if could put the top fill of the Siren V2 on the Ares, would have a perfect tank for me.

Berserker would come in last place, because of leaking and gurgle when filling, for the design of the tank, it should of had juice control, but flavor is still decent and it is the tightest on airflow.

If they fixed the top fill on the Ares, then would buy 5-6 of them.

Don't know that helps you at all :)

I will add, the only one of the 4 which isn't in my daily rotation anymore is the berserker, I would bottom fill it because of the leaking when top filling, and just a PITA to bottom fill nowadays when have top fill tanks.

Kayfun prime is definitely best but has a hefty price tag!

I did, just a PITA for me to do, take tank off mod, set mod down, take tank apart, set base down, fill, put base back on, put back on mod, to much work nowadays lol

Banging exactly what I was after Nailz thanks

If I grab a Prime I’ll wanna know how these MTL stack up first since it’s cost could go for a clone first to try it I guess heard SXK is almost bang on

I don’t think I like the idea of the 1.6mm airflow option only and leaking or song and a dance to refill the berserker that’s off the list

Think I’ll try the Ares first see how I go

Well I got the siren v2 cleaned and wicked. It was a snap to coil . But you do have to trim really close to the posts or the chimney will make contact and short. I' pretty sure I have solved that problem the ohm reading is staying stable and there is no gurgling in the tank. I have it on the third single hole setting. It's a really nice vape. I have no leaking on the tank that I can see so far. The juice I'm testing is Prelude by Black Note at 18 mg. it is a 50 / 50 vg pg. And vaping at 20.8 watts. It seems to be wicking very nice. I' using a 26 gauge nichrome 80 coil . The taste is very good.

Hope this helps people.

There is a smoother throat hit with the siren v2 than the Berserker in my opinion. Berserker flavour I think stands out a bit more. However I usually vape the Berserker at 17 watts . It seems for me anyway I am bumping up the wattage on the siren.

I prefer the berserker but some prefer the siren. It's like a 50/50 kinda thing lol.
I've had to get my local to order higher resistance coils. They only have 0.3 and 0.2 ones and I don't wanna use my MTL tanks with fused claptons!

If you did want to try some fused claptons, Vandy Vape sells the wire that comes with the Berserker as a spool. It's MTL fused clapton. http://www.vandyvape.com/category/MTL wire series

Don' get me wrong. I love my Berserker. The flavour is amazing. And I love that tight draw. I think I still have to work with it a little more to get it just right.

I have this max vg juice that I absolutey love. It is a 12 mg nicotine juice from Vango coffee shop line called cinnamon bun.

Has anyone tried a high nicotine max vg in the Berserker? Does it wick well?
