I didn't think it was gonna stick, given our warm temps lately, but it's starting...

PS: we've got lots of milk and bread. :D But even with the sticking, it won't stick around long -- we haven't even had frost in a solid week.

Still slushy slickery driving while it is going on.
I am sure the body shops will have a good Christmas bonus this year in your area.

The roads really aren't bad; snow is actually pretty easy to drive in, if you refrain from *sudden* starts or stops. My biggest concern is a) people are already idiots; b) idiots are trying to drive while txting or otherwise looking at their phones; and c) it doesn't do this very often here, so it's very novel, very distracting to those who aren't used to it -- and I know from my own experience in MI, when snow is falling, it looks like things are "coming at you" when you're driving, which very unnerving. It really doesn't matter how good a driver you are, if there are TOTAL FUCKING MORONS out there getting distracted by it, it's GOING TO BE a problem.

Im in UK an its just ICY hail stone melted and frozen to ice so roads and carparks are like ice rings ,
Top it off no heating some pressure reducing valve is leaking from mains water to boiler , so no cant have water on got up to flooded kitchen and misses after her bone marrow transplant was doing very well numbers up had a swab yesterday due to whats like a cold an jist got a call going to have to go back to hospital tomorrow for IV antibiotics an such to combat her infection , been hardware stores looking for this valve and none know what it is ,
suggested to just put a pipe in replacement,
but if it needs a pressure reducer and it's bypassed by just putting a pipe in it could mess up boiler
Cant go elsewhere Tomorrow since be at hospital all day

Well, you can fucking have it! We went out to do a bit of shopping when he got home, since it was still above freezing... but lord luv a duck, that slushy shit is a MESS! I nearly fell a couple times, and kept having to stomp my boots to get the slush off the bottom. got home, took off my boots which were all wet to put on my slippers... and my fucking socks were wet too!

And to top it all off with a nice cherry on top... there's so much snow on our satellite dish, we have no live TV tonight at all. Thank goodness there's a good bit on the DVR or the natives here (the males!) would be going bonkers.

Thanks for all the comic relief you guys :giggle::giggle::giggle:

You are all really cracking me up:facepalm:

Man it is so cold here that bottled water will freeze if you leave it in your car!
took a co worker up from Tampa to Atlanta in the winter once and it came a cold snap and got below freezing in Atlanta.
The Florida native could not believe that her water she left in the car overnight actually froze without being in a freezer.

Shoot bottle rockets at the satellite dish to knock the snow off?

We're supposed to have sun tomorrow, so it'll melt -- at this latitude, and it's not even the winter solstice yet, the sun is still very warm -- notice in those pics I posted earlier, I've still got roses in full bloom. :D Hence my surprise that all this white shit stuck around.

Just figured out that my snow is coming from another front coming from the NW.
Lucy prolly sent it.

Can't really blame her. She could send 25% of their usual and probably not even miss it, and you'd be up to your eyebrows. :D

I don't mind it when it's like Jan or Feb... but fucking DECEMBER??? And I'm trying to do this christmas shit????? AAAARGHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!

Well yall, we made it thru the 2017 blizzard! :teehee:

I could of gone decades without this. Power was off for over 11 hours. We are very lucky. Over %90 of the area is still without power.

Took this pic from my moms porch this afternoon. Measuring with a ruler, on top of the hand rails there was 5 inches of snow.

Yikes. That's about what they're estimating we'll get here, by the time it's over, sometime tomorrow. There's a break in it right now, over us, but due to start back within the hour.

Strangely enough, after we watched Ant-Man on the DVR, when the movie was over we discovered that our satellite signal had come back; maybe because of that break in the storm. It still hasn't dropped to 32 degrees though, so it's possible that the rain removed some of the snow from the dish.

So, tomorrow is gift wrap day; I don't think the roads will be fit to drive on till maybe Sunday.

I hope what yall get @AndriaD is not as bad as what we got. Looked at the power outage map and still at least %75 of the area is showing as no power. It is 36 outside now and I just came in. Snow is melting fast and will be a mega muddy mess afterwards which will freeze tonight :(

Around here, I don't think many, if any, lost power. On our street, they were recently doing the limb patrol -- remember the day I was bitching about being awakened by all the loud machinery? :D Plus, the EMC in this area is fan-damn-fucking-tastic. And just for our neighborhood, power outages are rarely ever a problem, just because a) it's a high-density residental area, lots and lots of subdivisions, and b) we're only about 2 miles from the damn middle of Lawrenceville -- the county seat. I well recall when I was in high school, and we were the only house on a single elec line from the street, and once after an ice storm, we waited THREE WEEKS for power to return, because they had to get to all the critical and high-density areas first -- never again!!!

We've been hearing little thuds all morning though, from a pine limb that overhangs our house, shedding its melting snow, which tells me that we HAVE TO get that limb down before there's any ice, because ice weighs a lot more than snow!

It's definitely in a melting phase today; the roads are completely clear, but wet, but it's supposed to get down to 24 tonight, so the roads tomorrow will be worse than today... So maybe the mate and I will venture out this afternoon, rather than waiting till tomorrow.

Don't you Lower 48 people use chains?

I recall our school buses in VA years ago using chains. Now, schools simply close and cancel. They don't want actual drivers to drive school buses. That requires someone needing to be courageous enough to not fear snow, ice and having capacity to think.

Think you'll like that "conversation" though. From what I understand, this guy, is like super sharp, even more so than whip. He figures to "know his stuff" quite well. Run into this video some time ago.

Enjoying the settling into the apartment. That is what has kept me away from here. Got busy living life, moving, hashing out everything and sundry. :)

Nice being "home" again with only me, wife, Shrek.

What I've read on the subject of "climate change" is that, being that Earth is currently in an Ice Age (anytime there is glaciation at the poles, that's an Ice Age!), we're actually heading more deeply into the Ice Age, or *should* be... but that human civilization, fossil fuels, etc, are moderating that descent into deeper cold, so that we actually appear to be either in stasis, or just *slightly* warming.

I personally think that the human mind isn't capable of discerning *climate* change; it's too large and lengthy a process. What we discern is *changing weather*.... Assuming we can predict what the climate will do, based on the weather, is kinda like meteorology in general.... they can get it kinda right, sometimes, but it's very far from perfect. It's kinda like seeing those cats born with extra digits and then predicting that cats will evolve into the next "sapiens sapiens" species. :D

Humans lifespans are far too short for them to gain enough wisdom to take the long view of things.

Mornin fugee's and GFY :)

I always viewed climate change as a huge scam. Years and years ago they said R-12 refrigerant was destroying the ozone layer. The world spent hundreds of billions converting to the new refridgerant, R-134. Now its known that no, R-12 didnt harm the atmosphere at all. What cemented it being a scam was a year or so ago I seen some scientist that retired was coming clean on whats really going on behind the scenes. They was being forced to change data so that it showed doom and gloom in support of climate changers agenda.
I like most peeps dont want to see the air, the land or the water polluted but dont be making exaggerated claims just to milk tons of money from peeps pockets. And yes, we had no business financing the scam known as the Paris climate accords.

I'm with you, choppie. I also think it's pretty much a scam; we DO need to be better stewards of the earth and its resources, because if we fuck it up, we hurt every living thing on the planet, including ourselves -- just look at how many species that humanity has hunted to extinction -- and as "no man is an island," no species is, either. But I'm more concerned about that huge floating raft of plastic in the Pacific than about the climate; the climate has a lot more to do with the Sun, the earth's magnetic fields, and the general "weather" of the ENTIRE SOLAR SYSTEM, than with anything that puny humans can do to it. Humanity truly can, and has to a large degree, fuck up this planet royally... but I really don't think that the climate is much within our purview.
