Clapton coils - general recommendations

Hi

The question might sound silly for most of the people here. But I am new to all this and don't want to learn swimming by drowning.

What are the general guidelines for Clapton coils in terms of core wire gauge and outer wire gauge, if I decide to make 2 parallel core wires, fused clapton etc What is a good ratio (inner gauge vs outer gauge) and what is not good at all.
I am planning to use SS 316L and Kanthal A1, meaning the result will be pure SS or Kanthal, no mixing.

If there is good source video or similar detailed instructions for this purpose, please provide a link.

I am not looking for "how to make coils", but what is used to make a good ones. I have Daedalus Clapton coil tool on the way, ready to order wire ribbons.

Appreciate in advance for suggestions and guidance.

What is a good ratio (inner gauge vs outer gauge)

as a general rule, i tend to start with the idea of using a wrap wire 10 gauges smaller than my cores (so 2 x 28 fused claptons will have 38 wrap)...the wrap wire adds mass to the coils, and will effect ramp up and heat retention. you can use this to your advantage a little depending on the mod/power level you are building for. for example, a single battery mech is kind of limited in terms of amps and battery life, so i might use a 42 wrap on those 28g fused claptons so they ramp up faster/conserve battery life a bit. on unregulated series, there is a lot more power available, so i might be ok using a larger wrap to mitigate some of that power.

and what is not good at all

if you go too big, it will take a longer press of the button to heat up the coils, it will waste battery life, cause extra heat to build up in your atty, which transfers to your vape/batteries/hands etc. generally, 36 is considered the largest wrap wire that will not have negative effects on your performance. i have seen a lot of people argue this point, so take my advice with a grain of salt/test it out for yourself once you are up and building. thats the best thing about building your own, is that you can figure out how to get your best vape (not mine or anyone elses).

Forgot to mention. I have only regulated MODs, single 18650 and 26650 and dual (for higher wattage) 18650 MODs.
IS your 10 gauges rule applies to both Kanthal and SS wires? And I have single, dual and triple decks for my tanks, but mostly dual ones, if this matter.

yeah i do it like that on any type of wire, and any mix of wire types.

the number of coils only affects your final resistance, so plan your builds with that in mind i use wire wizard to do all the math and stuff

The gauges you use depend entirely on the end resistance you're looking for, and the attie you'll be installing the coil(s) in. You're only limited by the wire you currently have on hand. There is no single answer to your question. But the two combos I use the most are 2x26/36 and 2x28/38.
