I haven't installed one yet. Truth be told I'm very low, dangerously low on cotton. Gotta wait till Tuesday but I'll make it.

Here are a few more. Got the idea, now time to tweak it. I wish I had some 28g Nichrome. I tried 26 its way to thick.

Do they look good guys?? There not to hard to make, you have to find that thump thump thump rythem, you'll know what I'm talking about, when you have found it. You can almost rock back and forth, though I was probably doing that because it's actually pretty painful to make I've got one hell of a blister, but I'm very happy with myself.

The more builds I learn and master, the more I can find what I like, and try to manipulate new coils into the perfect vape experience.

Edit: Maybe an official Braid thread for all varieties of braid?

They Do look good, but they are not true vertebraids I'm afraid. Those are clean braids of 3 sets of 2 strands each, but vertebraids involve the sets of 2 strands going through each other (a loop through a loop, check Squidoode's)

3 loop vertebraid 72017458_w0_h0_vertebraid_coil.jpg
Squidoode's tutorial, I thought it would be easy but getting the loops through loops is a little bit harder to get down than I thought lol

Your right, I should stop calling all braid vertabraids. Can we just change the thread to the official everything braids. My phone's fucked up it's so god damn slow. I tried to change but phone keeps freezing.

Actually we were both wrong, it's not vertabraid, it's a fishtail braid without a core. Which leads me to my next, with a core

I broke down, this is the last time I can switch builds cuz of my order of wick not even been shipped yet. I've got one log of cb left.

So, this one was for you guys.

Fishtail braid is flat the fuck out amazing. I thought this was just guys who were to lazy or didn't know how to do drill build. Let me inform you, because if I thought that, so would many people.

One, these builds take time. There is no super speedin it, one won't move and it ain't gonna lay down when you try to coil it. There hard, but if your using 28g you do NOT need to use a blow torch. It is springy, but when you start to coil it, you'll be able to tell. Springy, but cooperative.

Next, this build hurts. Using gloves takes away from the feeling, and dexterity. As with anything the more you do it the better fit you'll be every time.

And last but not least, I took out an alien build to do this, dry fired, and put of to the side. It's NOT going back in. I am going to use this build until the wheels fall off I guarantee it. I Bob Villad y'all so you know I ain't lying.

I guarantee if built right this build is going to find a permanent spot in my rotation.

Great idea to make this the dedicated thread for braids there’s quite a few I want to have a go at

Few questions (I say a few haha)

Do you have to pull quite hard when braiding?

What’s best way to secure it if you don’t have a vice!?

What gauge wire would you recommended?

Is it easier using certain metal types over others?

Can you mix and match metals ok for braiding (in that do they fall into place ok?)

If you were to pick a few different types of braid approaches how would you list them in order of a good place to start before moving on to the next more difficult approach?

Can you use anything over your fingers to help with blisters or will doing so effect how you are able to braid?

Is there a way to braid using something other than your hands, tools I mean?

This is one variation of a fishtail braid

I have seen some pictures of coils that look like yours when I search Google for 'fishtail braid coils' but I think that name is misleading, or at least inaccurate.

What you have is a three-strand braid, with doubled up strands. You have 6 strands total but each pair is treated as one strand and braided together with the other pairs.

Hey I'm walking up three flights of stairs for you King pin!!!!

Here is the easiest way I've found without a vice.

As for the braid your tightness comes from mostly fluid movement, and the 90 degree tightening squid doode shows. That dude is awesome, the one squid doode had do the tutorial. They rock

Now you can mix metals, but keep in mind the absolute minimum will be 6 stands of wire. The resistance will be super low. But you know what your doing, battery safety and all that jazz so I'd start with kanthal, then move to Nichrome. Mixing Nichrome would be a great idea. Especially if using mechs. I flat out hate most kanthal builds on mechs.

The beautiful thing, is because how it's made, the ramp up ain't terrible. Not like youd expect from 6 + strands.

I have only had experience with this "no core fishtail" build. As soon as I can afford more wire I'll help as I can buddy.

I think the clip is better than using a vice so long as your get the exact clip I've got pictured or something like it.

Also, squid doode and a few others on Reddit seem to like the fishtails or Celtic better than actual vertabraid. I've heard a bunch of people complain that vertabraid didn't deliver. I can personally attest that the fishtails are the way to go.

Love ya guys. I gotta hit this AA meeting then cook dinner for the house.

Pegleg, again your right. Squiddood is wrong I guess as well. I got this build technique from the doodes video. So, maybe that's misleading. It someone took the name and applied it to a better idea. Who knows. It's braid and that's all I give a fuck about.

Braid is beautiful. Braid is braid. This type of braid works wonderfully. I'll try that method sometime. I'm getting more into FC, aliens, and Staples ATM. Was just bored waiting on my wrapping wire to come in.

You don't have to pull that hard. If at all. The wire forms well with equal amounts of pressure and the 90 degree pulls.

A real fishtail braid around two cores with thin wire could be just as good at holding juice as aliens, no clue how to it quickly though, would take foreverrrr

I saw dude do it with 32 braid and fuck. I think if you get crocheting needless and modify then it would be so much better tighter and just all around more stable

Peg leg my technique is the "no core" fishtail weather or not that's what it's called, it's a good vape. If I had smaller wire I'd have done it with the cores.

I'm just getting to get it out there that braid is a great choice

@pegleg dude I think I'd rather stick to FC, aliens and other drill build than ever try to braid thin wire like I use to Clapton. No doubt in my mind would it be as good, I'm just not on sitting hours on two coils.

Hey peg,

My grandma's name was peg. She passed some years back but I that name. Anyway

Can you help this thread out by posting some of your braid builds. You seem far more knowledgeable than I am with these builds. Post up some of your beautiful braid builds. Seeing as how much you know I bet you crank out some beauts.

Let us know what is what. I came up with the thread, that's all, I don't want to own this thread, I want this thread to help people who want to try braid coils.

I'd be honored to see your build

@Pegleg Meg plz post up some of your braided builds. I bet your amazing at braids. Especially if your a girl. I think this is the first time I've ever braided in my life let alone using wire.

I want this to be a good information thread about braids.

Update****

I installed one, and I found out to my surprise I worked very well on unregulated and on my tube mod. I thought it would suck because ramlp up of all that kanthal. I mostly use nichrome80, and 60. I hate the ramp up and taste of kanthal. Mostly the ramp up, but I think the reason why is because the exposed round wire, and the low ohm coil.. it produced quick, dense, round wire flavor, but more intense. Honestly I like this build quite a lot. It's a great way to use up 28g and higher.

These coils tend to be in the at highest .18 and as low as .06 it's alot of separate connections so I'd figure as much. And because it's not 36g+ wrap wire you gotta kinda count all wire as core wire.

Again, if ever I'm wrong let me know. I'm going off personal experience. I love you all. Even the ones I hate, right now, know your loved.

I haven't made any braids yet, I went straight to drill spinning! I watched some videos on braiding, researched different braids, but once I got my drill set up I drifted away... But I'm gonna do some braiding today.
Knowledgable from research, maybe, but 0 experience. I am humbled.

Okay I got 3 32 awg loops in my drill with a sledge on top (dont have a vice), gotta decide which braid I wanna try, I started a fishtail with cores and 34awg but I broke the 34 after a couple minutes, it was looking gnarly though (in a bad way lmao)

Hey use a bullclip and find something solid to attach it too. Or drill in something solid and bend screws it nail so that you can attach.

Also, stay fluid, and most of all, do your 90 degree pull tights, and find your rythem.

These builds are fantastic mech builds.

I'd use 30 or 32, 34. Braid takes so damn long. I actually got fast, but good God how long I couldn't imagine with anything smaller.

It vapes nice, surprisingly warm for 32awg but then there are 6 strands of them! I followed the Doode's tutorial (had to watch the braid action itself 2 more times to finally comprehend it, don't abuse booze or chemicals y'all) and it looked really pretty, wish I had taken a picture before it coiled up. It looks better to my eyes than my crappy phone pictures,

Beautifully done. I didn't like the vape as much from the vertabraid as I did the regular braid, I found both vertabraid, and no core braid I did works fucking great on mechanical mods. Even kanthal ramps up surprisingly quick.

Honestly that's not one of the doodes better tutorials. He shouldn't have used black gloves. White would have been easier to do the tutorial in. And I think he should have done the idea life zophie vapes with different color string. Her tutorial was easier to follow.

0.45, I should have done 5 wraps instead of 7

Tips, seems most important is even length loops, so measure first, and twist ends, and I went gloveless, easier to grab and feel and you don't have to pull hard at all. And pull out to the side 90degrees after every "through and over through"

Also letting off tension while grabbing the other loop makes it easier on the fingers

And listen to music cause there's no noise involved haha

Ahh that’s good to know so it really doesn’t matter so much slacking tension between passes?

Do you have to be careful not to twist the loops when passing through and over?

If you keep the loops on your fingers and grab the next loop right, you don't have to worry about twisting. It's all about grabbing the top of the outside loop after going through the inside loop. Yeah the wire will hold itself well after you tighten by pulling to the sides, no tension needed otherwise except to keep them on the correct fingers!

I don't think lower gauges (26 and down) are good to braid for vaping, but if you do, don't tighten by pulling out to the sides, keep tension pulling toward yourself. And do wear goves, because thicker wire does hurt without them when pulling hard enough to keep even braids.

Higher gauges, less tension needed and easier without gloves

I used my hand vice to do it

DBB01732-D409-40A9-845E-A41C8334C9D7.jpeg

I cut my core lengths and secured them in place with tape at each end to keep them flat

I cut the braid length so when looped is a little longer than the cores then twisted all 5 loops together and secured them above the cores in the vice

then watched this vid for the method (I did not wear gloves and it wasn’t too bad)

Wow great job Kingpin your the man!

I'm proud.

Ill say it like this, I think the lowest I'd go is 28 g. Because it's predominately round wire getting exposed separately to the positive and negative I believe that's got something to do with the better ramp up time. 28g is just fine. 26 sucks straight up

Honest to goodness that is the most beautiful coil I have ever seen. It's like poetry in wire! It reminds me of a fancy French rapier with the finely woven basket hilt.
Its got all the features for fast but stable heating. Thats worth a video that would be highly viewed. Id pay for that coil as my old stone mason hands could never make it.

Thanks haha ....Vapes nicely deffo gonna make another at some point maybe try ribbon cores instead or go for 28g cores.

with the 0.1 resistence it was spot on for my parralel mech :) want to try and close up the braiding on it a little next time, I wasnt pulling down far enough on each pass

Best videos ever! I might be able to do this.

Have a go once you get into the swing of it it goes quickly pretty therapeutic actually
