Volume or weight

I have been reading a lot and watching a bunch of YouTube videos before I begin mixing. Most articles mention that mixing by weight is better than mixing by volume but the Liquid Barn and Nicotine River starter kits are for mixing by volume. Should I buy one of the starter kits and supplies for mixing by weight since the starter kits have the necessary liquids and some flavors? It’s almost information overload

Simple, less cleanup.

I wouldn't invest in a starter kit either, some of the items are useless.

Have you checked out ELR for mixing info?....the site is an overload of mixing info.

Thank you Inspects. I have looked at that site a little. I haven’t found any info on whether to buy the kit or not. It definitely has a ton of recipes. I will start gathering info on purchasing things separately.

You really only need a scale, which are cheap...like 20 bucks for a decent one. Use old bottles, or buy some more, their cheap too.

Everything else in a kit isn't needed when mixing by weight.

ELR has the calculator to convert volume to weight.

Yes, I plan to buy the American LB 501 scale from Amazon. Actually, i plan to buy as much as I can from Amazon.

A really good investment is a used magnet stirrer (without heating plate) and some glass beakers. It´s not a must have, but it make it much easier to mix up your juices.

I mix by volume and the cleanup of a syringe and a graduated cylinder is nothing in my opinion. Could take less time then calibrating a scale but I will probably never know. Just my opinion.

I started DIY using syringes and later switched to a scale and never looked back.
No need to wash syringes between flavors/batches.
I still use a 1 ml glass syringe for NIC & 12ml syringes for PG/VG.
Trying to hit the top opening of a 15ml with a bigger 120ml PG/VG bottle sitting on a scale without making a big mess is to hard for me, lol.

Found the 12ml syringes at TSC but the needles are sharp so they have to be cut, or ground off, (using the green ones).
Really no need to wash these dedicated syringes as I just replace the plastic ones after they wear out.
Pull the plunger out and dispense liquid into the top of syringe as it's easier to push thicker liquids.
Way too hard to "pull" thick VG up into the syringe.

I never started with a kit either.
Just made a list and started gathering up supplies, and reading lots of info on VU and...

I have this same scale, I used two before it and this is by far the most accurate one I have used and it makes mixing by weight super easy.

If you read what I said, it could take less time but I will never know. I never need to calibrate my graduated cylinder.

Having this scale you are right it only takes seconds to calibrate its been used for months and has not needed re-calibrating.

Large batches by weight, small by volume.

Do most of my mixing with a 10 or 20ml syringe. Rarely do more than 60ml at a time per flavor. I do 100ml bottle or more I'll use the scale.
