Stop me from buying a subohm tank

So I've been using rtas, rdas, and rdtas for almost 2 years. I started using rebuildables because I was tired of my coils burning out in a couple days and building coils sounded fun.

Well for the last month or so my rtas specifically have been pissing me off. I just cannot get them to wick properly. I'm tired of going to work with a tank that ends up in dry hits. Like today for example, yesterday morning I rewicked my manta and it worked great all day. Get up this morning and now it's not. WTH?

Seriously contemplating stopping at a b&m (another thing I never do) to grab a crown or the smok prince.

I wouldnt bother with the prince alot of problems with it the X baby on the other hand. If you want a no nonsense tank that will do everything you want and has decent coils to boot, you know just an idea

Man you guys are good at stopping me. I'll look into the x baby. I assume it's small which isn't going to fly with me.

I mentioned the prince because a buddy has it and his coils last a couple weeks with my DIY juice.

When I started vaping I used a cleito, which was okay. Then I went for a baby beast and found it leaked with ok flavour. I then moved on to the tobeco super tank - great flavour and cheaper coils. I would recommend it. I now only use Rta’s - I have three smm’s and love the airflow but it does always have a bit of condensation - just an annoyance. I also use an obs engine nano which has great flavour and doesn’t leak. That’s my GOC tank.

Have you ever tried cellucotton/rayon? I think it wicks better. I switched to it about two years ago.

I have some rayon but haven't used it yet. It felt weird to me lol

Thing to remember with rayon, it collapses a little with wetting verses the cotton plumping. I always go very snug in the soil and then fluff/thin the tails just a little. You also need to have very clean hands when working with/touching it. With a fresh wicking I always start with a lower wattage and work my way up until I'm satisfied with the Vape. Occasionally you might have a slightly off taste for about 2-3ml of e-liquid (I think I've experienced that mostly when I wasn't ultra careful about things touching the rayon when building the deck).

A zillion thumbs up for FreeMax Fire Luke, I have five of them (so far.. ;) ). Even the stock coils are good - and I HATE stock coils. Easy to build, never a dry hit if you even halfass know what you're doing. And I've gotten most of mine online for $19.99 each.

I've really been liking the Digiflavor Mesh Pro in Squonk SS TC mode.

I also need to ask, what coil ID are you running?

I usually go with a 3.5 to 4.0mm ID.

But I want it now! lol. I doubt any B&Ms will have the fireluke. That's another thing though, do i really wanna spend probably $50 for a tank?

To save 30 bucks, yeah, I'll wait. No sense whatsoever in being able to buy three online for about what you'd pay for one at a ripoff b&m.

Don't man, don't do it. They might wick even worse than your RTAs. I got a Joyetech subohm tank a while back for free and I can't stand the taste, either, all that chemically cotton taste. And it will NOT wick thick juice. I'll show you a video of me wicking the Pyro if you want, I mean this thing is super dependable.

It's been tough. We all want a satisfying vape. Everyday I see a my friend at work hitting his prince and getting huge, dense clouds, every time. He gets all his juice from me so I don't think there will be problems there.

Meanwhile, i'm sucking on my rtas and getting nothing. I've rewicked tanks multiple times a day for weeks and i mean every single day. Even dependable tanks just dont work anymore. I know its user error, obviously the tanks didn't change, but it seems so nice to just throw a prebuilt coil in there and go. I'm getting dry hits from the manta, pyro and even my aromamizer plus. I've never had issues with the aromamizer. My kylin worked great for a week but I had to dry burn the coils and rewick. Did that and my juice came flying out the air holes. I said screw it and put it away.

So yeah, terribly frustrated and tired of spending so much time on this. Hell I went through a bag of cotton bacon in two weeks!

Have you changed anything lately?

New tank?
New coil?
Old coil but new position?

If any of these happened then go back to doing it how you were a few weeks ago.

I assume you have multiple tanks and you know how you like them wicked and coiled. Go back to one of those older tried and true while you work on the new.

I have been doing this a while but I am no expert. What I can do is give my experiences. I bought the aromamizer plus tank. Coiled it how others were. I had about 2-3mm between the coil and deck like the videos looked. I didn't like the vape. Seemed like dry hits. What I ended up doing is left the legs long and had the coils about 10mm off the deck. Which brought the coils almost above the air holes. I could see light when I looked through the air holes. Much better.

Though while screwing with the plus I still had the boreas, which I knew how to coil and wick, ready to go if I got too fed up.

3 of them are new tanks. The frustrating part is how does it work fine for a day and then all the sudden wont wick anymore? Do wicks expand that much over night?

As far as the aromamizer, nothing has changed. Same coils, wick and even juice. I try to coil it the same every time but maybe this time the coil legs came out too short.

Mine would last maybe a day then go to shit. Not sure why but once I moved the coils up not a single problem. Like I said I can see light all the way through. I think I see maybe 2mm of the bottom part of the coil.

I can't see how long those tails are but I would thin that cotton out in the tails quite a bit, that and cut the tails so short they're just barely long enough to stay inside the juice loops (yeah loops) without coming out

just called the shop i was planning on going to. $59.99 for the tfv12 prince HAHAHAHA
That's gross...

Really just try moving the coil up it will feel strange but it works. The bottom of my coils cover up the top row of holes on my plus and I've had it in there for like 2 weeks now I think. Same wick same coil 2 weeks I think

Yeah I told him it was insane and that I could get it online for $28 lol. He just said, "we dont price match online"
Aye alot of them tell you that bloody tight arses. Its only so they can increase their GP on fools. Have you thought about the tvf4 with the rebuildable deck. I started out on one years ago so i know the stock coils are good and then you can have best of both worlds. Plus i reckon you could find one for pretty cheap now.

Haha fair one man now i think about it i seem to recall a bunch of leaking probs with mine. I then switched to the v8 upgraded my mod and now have the cloud beast family barring the most recent additions of the prince and the beast x. I also have a wismec gnome which is awsome though only 2ml, and my beast a sense blazer pro 7ml that although it has great flavour (when it works) it chooses when it wants to work. Alot of the time it just burns coils for the hell of it.

Ive actually been thinking of ditching the tanks and finally learning to build haha

I haven't been in the right state of mind lately when it comes to rebuildables lol but i will tell you its a lot cheaper.

The tfv4 was the last sub ohm tank i ever used. probably a couple years ago. I remember when it came out everyone was using it and saying how big it was. I look at it now and its not big at all lol

I didn't get any SMOK tanks until the TFV8 series. I've stopped with the TFV12. I have RBAs for each one (a triple and dual for the TFV12). I really like my Aromamizer Supreame and Plus. Lately, I've been really doing more Squonking (VTinbox, DRIPBOX 160, and GBOX with Dead Rabbit 24mm, Digiflavor Mesh Pro SS TC, Goon 1.5, and a self converted Twisted Messes).

The Kangertech DRIPBOX 160 is dual 18650 and the Geek Vape GBOX is dual 18650. Lost Vape Drone was a dual 18650 (DNA 166, DNA 250 board) but it was discontinued before I could get it. I think there is a new dual 18650 coming out but I can't remember the name right now.

Personally, I really enjoy Squonking. You have to pay attention to the RDA you get/use. If you get one that's bottom air flow with side air intake it's easy to over squonk and make a mess.

Generally speaking, yes. A lot is dependent on coil, wicking, and RDA. The "Genesis" style (tank under deck) is really good as well as some other RTAs. I tend to go with Clapton or Fused Clapton coils, although there are a few other styles that do well. A person just has to find their personal "sweet spot" combination.

Simple, RTA's over sub-ohm -
  • Coils last months vs days
  • Coils cost on average pennies to make where as subohm factory coils are $5+ each
  • Infinite options vs very limited options
  • Much better flavor
  • Cool factor ;)
