I've been doing a 18-6 intermitent fasting recently...and I did a two day fast...I have to say the two day fast was great...it really changed my head alot.....I really quite enjoy fasting...I think it has a ton of health benifiets....what is the big differnce between Paleo and keto...and what are the most important things you get out of fasting
I'm into fasting, eating only organic vegetables fruit and grains, seldom do I ever eat meat of any kind. Been doing this for about two years now....never felt better in my life.Do we have any folks on the forum into any of these.if so lets swap information.
I'm a passionate cook and foodie, and have always tried to eat organic....but my view of food as medicine has gone up another couple of notches.....any advice on how to tackle a fast..how to deal with the hunger and cravings....it is hard for me at this stage to envision doing a 3 day fast without being free of work or any responsibilties during the fasting time....I guess that is why traditionally fasting was done away from society, or during times that were set aside in society for introspection.I'm into fasting, eating only organic vegetables fruit and grains, seldom do I ever eat meat of any kind. I (had) diabetes, pancreatitus, was slightly overweight. Now I'm a normal weight, no longer take insulin, nor do I have any problems with the pancreas.
Nature has all the ingredients to live a long healthy life, including natural cures for disease, if you should be so unlucky to contract a disease or virus. Personally, I haven't had as much as a sniffle in two years.
I just read that Chlorella just tasted better than spirulina and I have to agree with that...I take it to detox heavy metals....I'll probablly take it for the rest of my life.I did a water fast..and when I do an intermitent fast I water fast.after eliminating any sugar or high carbs like grains or potatoes ,or even fruit for a couple of weeks I have no cravings for sugar...there is a phenomena called "keto flu" you may want to google about.I think it has to do with effects of detoxing..I'm gonna slowly work my way up to say a 3 day fast...then slowly up to 5 day fast....I think as smokers we have stored up alot of toxins in our body it may take longer for us to detox than most people.Did you do a water fast?
I did juice because I'm not good at suffering that is optional, lol - but really, thought my body needed to detoxify but also needed to replenish a lot of micronutrients
I didn't get the mental clarity until I ended the fast the first time
Also, I was going to ask you; I read the other day that you take Chlorella - any reason you chose that over spirulina?
The second time I did it was because I'd cheated food-wise after a two week trip around the holidays; while I had not totally abandoned Paleo eating principals, I didn't follow them to a T either - and boy did I pay for that; additionally, I started craving crappy junk and sweets - the kind of shit Mr Juicy still brings home. The second juice fast nipped that in the bud but quick. However, on the fifth day I started feeling ill, and I think I have the flu, but its more like a bad cold - I haven't been nearly as sick as those around me. The cravings for junk are gone after that though.
Paleo and keto pair up well together
True Paleo stresses organic and non-gmo including meats, fruits and vegetables and the total elimination of all dairy (except eggs), potatoes, all grains, cereals and legumes and all overly processed foods - especially processed sugar and fake oils; and potato and anything GMO
Basically, you can eat as much seeds, meat, fruit and vegetables (except potatoes) as you want, especially home-fermented foods, like pickled veggies
From my research into Keto - fruits are limited, as are vegetables that are not negative carbs, also dairy is permitted
I have never been able to tolerate milk of any kind - it almost killed me as a baby
Nothing from what I have seen from people that vape and test their glucose/insulin regularly reporting. It has no affect on my cravings personally, even vaping all sorts of bakery/sweet recipes.still don't have a clear idea what smoking/vaping does to insulin levels during a fast.
veggies and slow carbs don't seem to bother me...it's sugars or high carbs that seem to affect me the most.....actually I tray and make it a point to get alot of veggies in...mostly green ones...kale spinach brussel sprouts.ect.I tried all that stuff for years and could never get rid of the carb cravings until I switched to Zero-Carb/Carnivore on 24Dec2017. Once I cut out all carbs/plants and artificial sweeteners I have had 0 cheats, even if I drink or 'inhale' something that might otherwise increase my appetite for a snack. If I get hungry I eat some leftover meat, bacon or hard boiled eggs. I haven't lost any weight, don't really need to, but my belly is smaller than it has ever been and I continue to get leaner each and every day.

I thought I was fine with those also, and may have been, but I know for sure now that the stevia in my coffee, zevia soda, keto low carb breads/recipes I made with stevia, etc, were fueling my cravings for all the hi/refined carb junk food/snacks that I could never force myself to leave alone. i have never felt better since cutting out all carbs and fiber. you don't really know if they do or don't affect you until you cut out all possible sources of inflammation for 30 days then try and reintroduce them one at a time.veggies and slow carbs don't seem to bother me...it's sugars or high carbs that seem to affect me the most.....actually I tray and make it a point to get alot of veggies in...mostly green ones...kale spinach brussel sprouts.ect.
yeah never cared much for stevia just as soon go without sugar altogther....I can have pretty big sweet cravings for a week then just stay of carbs and sugar and they all just go away...the only thing that peaks my interest is homemade apple pie,but I haven't given in.they say that some people are even sensitive to the sugar in milk and cheeses.I thought I was fine with those also, and may have been, but I know for sure now that the stevia in my coffee, zevia soda, keto low carb breads/recipes I made with stevia, etc, were fueling my cravings for all the hi/refined carb junk food/snacks that I could never force myself to leave alone. i have never felt better since cutting out all carbs and fiber. you don't really know if they do or don't affect you until you cut out all possible sources of inflammation for 30 days then try and reintroduce them one at a time.
zero-carb carnivore since xmas. fiber/carbs/plants are not necessary for good healthwhere's the veggies.

go for it...but I have a hard time imagining our ancestors evolved without with plant foods in their diets.....I know the Innuit survive on a meat/fish diet but their bodies have evolved a larger liver than the rest of humans...zero-carb carnivore since xmas. fiber/carbs/plants are not necessary for good health

there is a phenomena called keto flu..I'm not saying that is what you had ,but you may google it and read up on it. Congrats on the 17 pounds.....do you also notice if you are feeling as a whole any better or worse on Keto.....I've noticed since I've avoided sugar and grains, that if I eat sugar it really makes me feel bad.I"m on a keto type diet and it's working. 7lbs in two weeks. Fasting a few meals here and there. I really don't feel like eating until noon. I'm sticking to 20-30 carbs. I was on keto before I had the flu (I think it was the nasty flu) for two weeks. Total loss: 17lbs
I did have keto flu before. It was due to not eating enough carbs. I need at least 20 to feel good. Oh, I feel great on keto. I have more weight to lose since I have been on prednisone for almost 2 years. My dose is 5mg (was on higher doses) so it's a harder path to lose weight but I'm determined.there is a phenomena called keto flu..I'm not saying that is what you had ,but you may google it and read up on it. My mother had the same thing awhile ago...I forget what she did to rid herself of this...but I'll ask her tomorrow. So I had planned to start my third attempt at a 10-day juice fast today - but have hit a snag of sort
I got brief periods of dizziness during my last attempt, but I thought it was because I was fighting off getting the flu everyone else around me got, so I quit five days into it
Later experienced a few episodes of true vertigo, and today flunked the Dix–Hallpike test today at Drs office. Semont maneuver made it worse
This kind of shit runs in my family but this is the first I've ever experienced it
Am thinking of trudging ahead anyway

I hear you man...one of the first things I eat when I break my fast is coffee with cream and butter...black coffee in the morning has been a hard pill to swallow.Don’t know how I missed this thread ...Started Keto diet with a daily 16/8 IF just before Christmas as I thought if I started before the holidays I’d be less tempted to cheat. Lost a good amount of weight through early Feb when I broke down and had carbs. Starting again Monday. Hardest thing was switching to black coffee from using creamer and sugar for years. I think I’ve had sugar twice since December which I’m pretty proud of. I was in Ketosis for over a month solid which was hard to maintain.

I stick with basic meat and above ground vegies. I make it simple. Some days I do eat pork rinds. I can't get into the fat bombs and can't afford avocados at the moment.
I've only been playing around with fasting, and Intermitent fasting and keto for a couple of months, but my sugar cravings have gone rock bottom and on the occasions I've eaten sugar after what most people would consider small amounts, it gives me stomach pains, and I feel awfull ......I have no desire to repeat the experince any time soon....as for carbs...I've lost my fascination with them.
Yeah I agree. I think keto is great.but I don't get too crazy about it..pretty much just avoid grains,potatoes,sugar..high carb stuff, but fasting is an extermely powerfull tool for health...I'm new, so my longest fast has only been 48 hours...IF at 16-8 or 18-6 is what I've been doing, but I would like to work up to 3 to 5 day fasts...I pretty much expect some form of fasting will be part of my health regime for life.Same here. First time I had any sugar I felt like complete crap. Keto is great but I really believe IF plays a key role if you throw it in the mix, especially with killing cravings and being able to wait longer before eating your first meal. Just takes getting used to at first.

leeks are a well known prebiotic
Yes - at this point in the game, I don't think anyone can be truly healthy unless they also have healthy gut bacteria
yeah this is my next avenue of investigation...the relationship between unhealthy gut bacteria and mental disorders/stress/anxiety/depression...how to eliminate bad bacteria ..how to cultivate healthy bacteria colonies,..are our appetites ours or are our apepetites for the things that are bad for us the appetites of unhealthy bacterias and fungi and parasites in our body. also using bone broth to repair the gut lining.Yes - at this point in the game, I don't think anyone can be truly healthy unless they also have healthy gut bacteria

I make my own stocks and broths....I think there is a strong relationship from what I’ve read when I looked into it last year. Be careful with bone broth - I thought I got a good 100% natural /organic one last year but it had sugar, and since I forgot my reading glasses couldn’t read the ingredients until I got home.something else that’s supposed to be good for naturally raising good bacteria is sauerkraut due to the fermentation. I’m glad you guys mentioned leeks because I love leek soup. I’ll have to get some.

beef bones aren't cheap especially the grass fed varietyIt's so simple and inexpensive to make your own and you know what you are getting

I go on a 10-day water fast once a year, if that counts.
Wow no way I could go that long. Kudos.
actually my wife has been giving me grief for losing too much wieght....so I do IF like every other week...I know its been awhile since anyone posted here, but I started doing intermittent water fasts, 20 - 22 hours
Started my first one kinda by accident, and have since done it intensionally two or three times a week - it did kickstart my metabolism and I've started losing weight again finally
