2nd attempt at wrapping alien wire

1st attempt and hand coiling any wire

2x 26 gauge SS 316L core
1x 36 gauge SS 316L wraps

Only was able to pull off enough length for one before I ran out of decore. When I get home later I'm going to attempt a second, because all my tanks are dual coil.

Ran out of 36g wire during my attempts for a second alien coil :( For my next aliens I will attempt the classic 3 core

So far from research I've found out that the decore should be wrapped around 1/3 the size of the aliens core. However, what kind of ratio/gauge difference is necessary between alien core and/or the decore's original core vs wraps? (I prefer to minimize staggered heating in my builds)

edit - for example. An 8 gauge difference in single core claptons was too much of a staggered heat for my taste. However, a 10 gauge difference between clapton core and wrap has been working perfect!

New build for the week. 6.5 wraps on 26 gauge nichrome 80 3.0 mm ID on the Ares. I'm using a 50 50 NET Juice from Black Note.

You like vape tool? All I've used for years. I bought the pro version but really don't need it that much. But it does help with showing surface area and heat capacity of the coils. Also you can choose more coil option. But if you don't build more intricate coils then it might not be worth it

I love vape tool. I will be soon doing some more intricate coils. Right now the free version is doing fine. I have the setup to default to 4.2 volts so I can see my builds and what they would look like on a mech mod.

I brought people here from vape tool haha. I find it most useful for telling you how expensive DIY juice is to make, one thing I've found though is that you cannot delete your own recipes once they're on there. Personally I think the guy who made the app is probably gonna be stealing recipes :/

I've got to mix some weaker e-liquid. Way too much nicotine per puff using my typical juice on this build

I did it!!! :bliss:3 core alien wire! There's a half rotation throughout about a foot of wire , this shouldnt be an issue, right? Its also not super straight, this shouldn't be too much of an issue right? I don't want to damage the wraps trying to fix something that doesn't need it. Anyways here's pics!!

Showing off length

this is the only flaw in the entirety of the wire!! :)

Lol I've been messing up zooming in on an inch of wire, I gotta start SHOWING OFF MY LENGTH! :teehee:

Seriously clean job though dude, it looks like it went easy for you!

Better than my first helix dude :) I found alien helix to be easier than regular helix.... Somehow haha. Probably down to how light I can grab decore rather than straight wire. Nice work dude

My fucked up attempt at a ridged SSFC. Been on painkillers for a messed up foot and it's playing with my ability to concentrate :/ was supposed to be 4*.4x.1 in the center, 4*.3x.1 either side and 26g frames with .14 fusing. Gonna have another go at it though as I think that little reservoir that will be created either side of the .4 will be good for vapour/flavour production.

Actually I was about to give up.

I had just as much length of messed up wire as I did successful wire haha. The first foot or so I could NOT get the cores to stay parallel and my wraps suffered. I kept trying to use a paperclip to help and once I got the cores to lay flat and the wraps to start the rest went so smooooth.

Honestly, pulling that off has put me in a great mood today! haha, its the little things

nope. you can untwist that as you wrap your coils on the coil jig. i never bother to straighten the wire out first, and most of my round wire builds will finish with a twist or two at the very least.

Here's really my first attempt at a staple helix variation.
hey man you are back! nice stapled helix. it hurts a bit to see the ribbon flip like that, but your work is clean as hell. stapled helix is a time consuming build, and it looks like you got all the fuse perfect. welcome back, hope you are feeling better man

was wondering where you were at. did you wreck your foot fighting with the pricks at the post office? its been kinda quiet in here without you and @Shredtravolta on the front lines.

My fucked up attempt at a ridged SSFC.
damn that looks like a tough one too. this is a painful page of super complex ribbon builds that flipped

yeah it can cost a lot of wire to learn how to alien wrap or pull off a tougher build, but its not wasted wire as long as you keep going until you get the build to work. i find that i can fail a build a few times, never having any success, then ill hit it once and rarely, if ever, fail it again. its impossible, until its not any more...and yeah its a great feeling vaping on your first aliens or whatever you are struggling with  you might be up there with @Pegleg Meg in the race for fastest to hit aliens btw. she came in here on parallel round wire and got to alien in nine days i think it was. seems to me you came in a week or so ago and now heres your first aliens  will have to get the officials to measure, but it looks like you are in the top 5 at least from where i am sitting.

wire order didn't make it this weekend :/ needed a new build so figured I'd give SSFC a try.. 2*26g / 6* .3x.1 / 32g / 38g all n80.. wish I'd had some 34 or 36 for the stagger, but came out alright I suppose.
very nice work for a first try at such a hard build

great work everyone. this page is a solemn reminder that ribbon can go bad on us, but its also full of lessons learned and some great success

Jeez that’s super small mate haha you got to get some 50+ plus see if you can out do raymo very impressive
was just looking around and i see kp goes up to 54. i feel like 40/50 isnt too far away lol ;) it was actually pretty hard to make the decore on 36, im not sure how much higher i could go. my swivels wouldnt even spin until the 36 twisted up enough tension to make the swivels (very suddenly) spin over a few times (BZZZzzzz....BZZZzzzz....BZZZzzzz....). ill likely have to sort that out before i go any smaller. im actually surprised my decore even worked, the tension on the wraps was pretty much random/the opposite of what you want.

whats the smallest anyone has seen? i found the post where @raymo2u hit 34/50 aliens, and i remember a post where @Tom_Forde had a pic of some tiny ones too, but i cant remember how tiny, or if ray ever went higher. i thought he did a piece of .3mm with 50+ once too, but i might be mixing that up with the 34/50...

50 gauge wrap I’m sure of it I can’t remeber the core size, I remeber him saying it was thinner than human hair though lmfao that’s gonna be tough

i am actually surprised how my attempt tonight turned out. it feels like when you get good at 30/40 (which took me a few fails to hit, even though i could do 28/38 easily) you develop some kind of secret scroll kungfu no-touch technique. once you get that down, it doesnt seem to matter how small you go. you cant see anything, you just let muscle memory/feel/intense prayer/inner peace/build gods guide your hand

My arm starts shaking half way I’d be useless at the really thin gauge stuff, if and when I get a permanent build space up I’m going to try it though!

yeah when you get something set up permanently you can set it up so there is something to rest your hand on. having a good build station is a big deal. imo it was one of the things that felt like it upped my game as much as getting good swivels or anything else we get for building. i marked out inches across the front of my desk and put clear tape over it (so it doesnt rub off). the tape is slippery enough that it feels like my arm is gliding across as i follow with the spool. on builds where i want to be further from the cores, or that will take a long time to complete, i will just rest my hand in my lap and roll my whole chair to move it :teehee: if i had a foot switch i could build with two broken arms (as long as one of my hands can hold a spool) :p

pushing myself today. 36/46 n80 aliens

Damn 36/46... that's just a testament to your insane level of skill. 46 is so thin I think it's thinner then a piece of hair. You could just break it if you give it too much tension. I'd imagine you have to be so gentle with the wire. I bet if you bind it tight so it's like one conductive surface it ends up being a great vape.

I can relate hahaha. When ever I'm getting close to finishing my desired length for whatever I'm doing my left hand and leg start shaking like I just snorted 3 grams of ******* at Studio 54 in 1984 on a Tuesday night. I need to buy a chair that I can strap myself into so my leg won't shake while I'm trying to finish a build. I can't tell you how many times I've lost my groove when I was a beginner because my left leg was bouncing up and down. Now I'm kinda intermediate so my leg bounces a little less.. but its still a risk lol.

im not sure if its the no-touch kungfu or coil society wire, but it was much easier than anticipated. i think there is a threshold of how gentle you have to be and its pretty close to 40. if you are gentle enough for clean 40 gauge aliens you are prolly ok to try smaller.

haha mine too, but all it takes is sitting still for a few seconds. im too old for blow at studio 54 lol (specially on a wednesday morning ugh).

I wont ever make antything higher than 46g again. It took almost 3 months worth of tries to do that 50g Alien...
The Decore was 36g and it was on 1ply of .3R
Glad someone still remembers that though, Ive tried putting up $50 for anyone that beats it....still havent paid anyone yet almost a year later ;)

so whats the bet? 50 gauge wrap, or higher than 50? ill have to order wire just to take your challenge, so i want to order the right stuff  i feel like i can do anything after i hit 36/46 :giggle:

edit -
Glad someone still remembers that though
that left quite an impression on me man, its one of the reasons i am here still, hitting new builds and trying to improve
