Smok Alien v1.2.1 flashed with vb1.0.3... still works but stuck in bootloop

So... In a rush I flashed my brothers smok alien v1.2.1 with the vb1.0.3 firmware like a total noob, it still 'works' but if the screen turns off it falls into a boot loop and needs to be reset.

I can't get the update tool for the correct version to recognise the device now (connect), but the update tool for vb models does connect... is there a way of flashing v1.2.1 or v1.3.2 onto the smok using the update tool for vb models? The firmware files aren't recognised as default so I'd rather not blindly click for risk of bricking it entirely.

Orrrr is there another fix?

I've given him my old Alien and ordered a Drag and I'm using a mech mod in the meantime but I'd like to fix it as it would be a shame/waste to bin it.

It'd be very greatly appreciated for any ideas or tips, or even a confirmed fix!

Thanks in advance :)

Joe.

How did you flash`the alien's firmware?
They have an update program for updating the firmware... I just used that. Done it before a few times on my mod to fix glitches etc and it always works fine, just not when you flash the wrong model onto the mod...

That's weird. I honestly am not sure how to help but if I find anything I'll let you know

Thanks a lot :)
I wouldn't say it's weird, a lot of regulated mods have upgrade-able or customisable firmware, I'm just one of the many idiots that installed the wrong firmware on my device... Normally it just bricks them immediately but the fact that mine still fires and turns on makes me think there will be a way of rescuing it.

I fixed it! It appears I didn't install the wrong firmware, I just got stuck in the Bootloop so many have done when they updated their Alien vb

I tried every method all over the place but this random comment on planetofthevapes fixed it:

Open NuvoISP hit contine, hold down the fire button and plug the usb in
click connect, uncheck everything except "erase all" and press start
then uncheck everything except "config" then press settings and change "clock source" to internal, "brown out" to 2.5v and uncheck watchdog then press ok and press start
click APROM and load the firmware uncheck everything except "APROM" and hit start again once its complete disconnect and unplug usb

if you're using windows 10 it will disconnect if it thinks you're not flashing so you need to be quick setting the options under settings menu
