We watched "I, Tanya" Thursday night - my first movie in awhile

Thought it would be made-for-TVish, Hallmarkish - but it was very well done. The lady who played Tanya Harding's mother was amazing

Two actually.

Passenger. SciFi flick. Really well done in spite of some bad reviews I read.

Thor Ragnorock. Lots of action and eye candy. Need to find out what the folks that design the Asgardian headwear are smoking so I can get some for myself.

I thought Ragnarok was kind dumb.. lotta of action but real comical.. guess thats what they were aiming towards.. sort of like Gardians..
I also use Kodi somewhat frequent.. anyone uses that?

Sometimes after a long and tiring day, I like to have a plate of snacks, an adult beverage or three and watch a movie that requires absolutely no higher brain functions.

For me, Thor Ragnorok fit that bill perfectly.

Last "in theater" movie was Jumanji. I didn't think it was nearly as good as the first one, but Dwayne Johnson....:inlove:
We use Kodi on both our fire sticks, fully loaded.

We rented a couple movies this weekend; Friday night, we watched Atomic Blonde. Theron kicks major Russki ass, and if you're an old-ish fart like me, the 80s soundtrack will definitely be a blast from the past; lots of The Clash, some Flock of Seagulls, and a few others I recognized but couldn't tell you the group or artist. :) Last night, we watched American Assassin, because I'm a HUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE Michael Keaton fan; that man is up there with Nicholson in the scenery-chewing dept, and also in the most-engaging-eyebrows-in-Hollywood dept. :D

This pair of movies highlights nicely how we've gone from generic-commie-bad-guys to generic-muslim-bad-guys in the last 30 yrs. :D

I think the last I actually went to the theater to see was the last Harry Potter, in IMAX, because the spawn insisted, and he paid. :) That was summer 2011. Before that, in a theater, I think was one of the Matrix movies, like maybe 2004 or so. I really loathe going out to the movies; back then, couldn't smoke, now, can't vape, not anywhere in the damn building, which is just STUPID. Throw in the OUTRAGEOUS prices for refreshments, and missing parts when you either have to pee, or have to get up and walk around to ease the leg cramps, and I'll just keep my ass at home and enjoy my own damn refreshments, INCLUDING MY FUCKING VAPE, and hit the pause button whenever I need to pee or walk around. Oh, and pay a reasonable price to see a film, instead of fucking ROBBERY.

We LOVE The Red Box -- easy, convenient, cheap, and they have up-to-date movies. :) Sometimes we'll pay to view a movie from Amazon on our smart TV, or even one from DirecTV, but the Red Box is cheaper. :)

Are you doing the "pay per view" that Redbox has now?

My last two theatre visits were memorable: Whatever Star Wars movie that was released in January, 2017 and a month before that, on Christmas Eve, 2016, my youngest daughter and I went to the theatre to see "It's a Wonderful Life" - her favorite movie from childhood. It was special

Nah, we rent Blue-Ray discs from their box; we don't have a real "DVD player" that works anymore, so we use the son's PS4 to play blue-rays; looks awesome on the 48" Smart TV in my husband's room -- which we can get to the back of; the 60" in the living room was mounted on a fixed bracket instead of one of those swivel-out kind, so we can't get to the plug-ins in the back of it. :(

I dig the new eye candy movies for what they are, eye candy. But I do love older movies and my last movie I watched was Cool hand Luke, next I'll probably watch Apocalypse Now again.

Also really dig the Bourne movies, anytime one is on I watch it... wife says, "Bourne again?"

Shoo Fly you bother me! lol

Apocalypse is one of my husband's all-time faves. There's just one line in it that I fucking love, it cracks me up everytime I hear it, something about the soldiers being "rock-n-rollers with one foot in the grave." Not sure why I find it so funny, but the dry, deadpan delivery just cracks me up. :giggle:

Ditto! I love the Bourne movies! I do the same thing, any time I see them listed. I was hooked from the moment I saw the park bench scene from the first movie.

He's so bad ass.

I watched that in the last couple months, too. Not sure how to put it into words, lol. It was intriguing, very different, for sure. I didn't "not" like it, I didn't love it, I didn't dislike it, LOL. Also glad I saw it.

Yeah very different for sure. I think that's why I liked it, it's not just a remake of something (at least that i know of).

Idk how to explain it but I like the overall "feel" of the movie. Having a mute as your lead, they had to fill in dialogue with music. It was just really calming.

edit: Dont think its a movie i could watch twice though.

It was a little slow for my taste and I agree that I had a real neutral response for "The Shape of Water"

Haven't been to a theater since 1997 (Men In Black)
Cut out cable and satellite in 2005.
Built our own home theater with the money we've saved. We dedicated one blacked out room to the theater with a large screen TV, surround sound and an Nvidia Shield with Kodi on it, all tied to our home network and viewed from a split rocker recliner.
Screw theaters.
