First step get all my bottles ready get my flavoring out I use vg based nic my process is this
Syringe out the correct nic put in bottle
Next flavoring goes in usually 10%flavoring
Next step fill the rest of the bottle with vg
Next step put the bottle in really hot water for about five min then shake it up really good then on more time that process then I wait 1day or 2 and then start vaping
I understand this process is not the best would love for someone to come in and correct it for the better because this is how I have been doing it for 2 yrs

Looks good to me. I do it very similar, but i use a scale and do not heat steep.

Get out all the flavors i'll be using along with a bottle.
Shake everything before adding it
add nic (VG based)
add flavors
add PG
add VG
Shake

There's no best way to do it. Just the way that you're comfortable.

Hi. I'm in the same boat as you, on the expedition to DIY flavours. First of all I would stop heating your juices, at least in hot water. I'm pretty sure the heat will affect the overall flavour profile if you add too much to it. I tend to just keep the bottle I'm trying to steep on my person. Either in my jeans pocket or jacket pocket and intermittently shake and air out the bottle, at least once a day, sometimes more if I'm getting impatient. That being said I will vape my juice as soon as I've shaken the bottle properly to understand what flavours diminish over time and how weaker flavours come to the front. I would say that understanding can help you to not overshoot flavours as often it will ruin your flavour profiles in the long run.
Hopefully this is helpful to you, and good luck on your journey :)

Alright me next batch try not heating it up and go from there next is like to be able to refine my juices vapestore select quality and flavor while maintaining a 90to 10 vg to pg maybe 85 to 15 for more flavoring but the less pg the better I like it

Another thing to have a look into then is other people's recipes. Eliquid recipes website is a great place to start, also don't limit yourself to only a couple of flavour concentrate companies, the more the better. Each company does a flavour a different way but mixing multiple types together is where I've found most of my favourite diy juices. There's a couple of guys on here who explain this in a much better way than I can, search the diy section for flavourings and additives and you might find the threads explaining how flavourings mix together and what each additive does for your mixes.

Don't heat your juices, just mix extra/bigger batches so you can get a steady rotation of steeping juices going. I would never vape something I mixed 2 days ago unless it was a 15 - 30 ml tester and I wanted to see how it matures over a 4 - 8 week steep. I mix 3 or 5 100ml bottles every few weeks and generally have 1 - 1.5 liters of various 100 - 200ml recipes steeping while vaping on stuff I made 2 - 4 months ago.

Yes I have tried loranns I think is what it is but I don't like how a lot of there flavors have excess food coloring the flavor apprentice is pretty good choice. I've also been trying to find a good vg based flavor but the few I've seen and used have mixed results. Mainly not enough flavoring in them but I will browse the DIY threads and see what I can find ty for the help

That's a lot of juice to prepare though I'm using a melo 300 tank and it drinks juice like water so maybe I will work on having more steeping and have some on hand when I need it. Hmmm seems I'm going to need more vg owell I think I still have 1400ml of vg based nic 100mg per ml

It takes me 60 - 90 minutes to get everything out, mixed and put away using scales to measure when I mix 5 or 6 recipes. When I first started DIY I was doing a lot of testers and would do warm crock pot baths to speed steep them. Once I found a few recipes I liked I would mix up 100ml of each to speed steep and vape right away and second 100ml of each to steep slowly. Once you find some recipes you like and start mixing extras it won't be long and you will have more juice than you know what to do with. I don't even bother with testers myself now after 18 months mixing as it only costs me 2 or 3 dollars per 100ml of juice to mix my own.

Here is a pic from the weekend when I mixed up 5 x 100ml bottles:

Top left is everything I (and my room mate) am/are vaping. Bottom left are a few random older recipes and 2 x 500ml bottles of countless testers I just dumped together for an emergency stash in case I run low on steeped juice.

Top right is ~1.3 liters of steeping juice mixed in February, early April and last weekend. Bottom right is what's left of my flavor concentrates I bought in 2016.

And the mini fridge full of my newer concentrates I use now. Hopefully I have enough room in there to fit the 5 or 6 new 50ml bottles arriving today.

I like that organization once I get me a new house I can dedicate a room to it that's been the plan anyways

my usually steps are:
flavors
pg: so it can "meet" with the flavor
nic: it is in 100% vg and high concentrated but it doesn't make the mix thick
vg: slowly so the pg decreasing slowly and the vg doesn't stay "isolated"
all that are my personal impression after several diy tries.

I should have mentioned in my earlier post: I do nic last (flavors, vg, then pg to wash the vg down the funnel) to make sure if I get any nic on my gloves it doesn't end up on my flavoring/vg/pg bottles or anything else. Once I am done the gloves get tossed and the batches get mixed with a badger paint mixer. I used to do nic and flavors first until someone mentioned that if I spilled nic and it got on my gloves it could then end up on everything I touch after that. goggles on the whole time until done mixing with the badger.

I do not use gloves I use too but steady hand and all that I use a 10ml syringe for my vg based nic another one for flavor which is pg based I tried a few vg based flavorings but they aren't that strong and are just alright imo I put nic in them flavoring and then fill the bottle up with vg meaning I don't have to measure the vg out just fill the bottle up with vg since other parts are already I I there the juice I make is alright I just cannot seem to replicate the taste and yummy awesomeness that is premium e liquids I use to buy for instance always 100 blue slushy or what was it blood orphan was the flavor the company I forgot I just got some vapetec EU based nic in today because I saw a few posts praising it I've been using mfs nic ever since I started making my own also I'm trying to find some companies for flavors I usually get mfs flavors tfa I have tried loranns but do not like them because I hate a lot of food coloring in my juices I like it clear or slightly tinted so anyone make suggestions I think my main problem is steeping max steep I do is a week at most because I make juice as I need it I will need to work on that ...and yes I know just a super long run on sentence :p

Good GOD - you guys are way too anal for this, and you are making it way harder than it needs to be…. I’m 5 years DIY now, so I have tackled what I like - and that is NO easy task (what you like that you made yourself).

If you are an experimental type - OK, but if you are like me - its like an ice cream sundae - you have the same base (ice cream) and change up the toppings a bit (syrup/fudge, fruit, whipped cream). Maybe this day its vanilla and hot fudge with whipped cream, and tomorrow is coffee with bittersweet chocolate and walnuts... In all the crazy combinations - I tend to stick with 3-5 flavors of ice cream and carry the toppings - sorry Baskin Robbins...

So - with vaping many of your sought after flavors will have the SAME base (core underlying flavor). You want to duplicate a flavor - the first step is figuring out what the BASE is and building up from there.

Next point - the base flavor is the one which requires the steep, not the toppings...

So I’ll suggest this to you. Use a BASE formula you like (and it might take time to figure out what you like) and make that ahead - allowing to meld together / steep before you add your “toppings”.

I have at least a liter of PG/VG with Bavarian Cream, Sweet Cream and Vanilla Custard pre-made at all times (roughly 2% each). Usually in Pint or Quart (dark) bottles - which will be 4-6 weeks old (min) - out of light and climate controlled (60 is ideal). It sits there and just gets happy over a month or two.

Then - when I want a ready melded Blueberry cream (example) I mix the right amount of base (say lil’ over 50ml) to say 3-5ml of blueberry flavoring and shake. I'm not selling, and pretty stingy with my LAZY friends (give it away to new acquaintances all the time through) - so the majority of the juice is mixed into 2oz Similac (baby formula) bottles (cleaned and sanitized) or these 4oz squeezable bottles I bought (50) on clearance somewhere. Then I set aside for a day or months - either way - the custard has blended in the base - and then it is REALLY the base - the blueberry then POPS as its not melded as well. In the end - I use LESS of the 'topping' flavor than others do - as the base has already set up and the topping is just to enhance the overall.

Right now I have - Creme', Coffee (natural), Menthol, Coconut, Chai Tea & Milk...

I regularly (per quarter) mix close to 40 flavors (15-25 I always do, and 15-25 ‘trials’)… I have my favorites, but like try to duplicate others I’ve tried. Understanding the “Base” idea leads to much better clones in a few minutes - not hours or days of trial and error.

Wednesday I mixed roughly a half gallon (26 or so 2oz containers) of juice in about 20 flavors. I had already poured the base and labeled them weeks ago - so all I did was plop on a scale and drip in the flavors I wanted to try - cap and shake - then sharpie ‘topping’ flavor and date, done…. It might (MIGHT) take a minute per bottle - that’s it. And since the base is already steeped - the Black Current Custard and the Rum Custard I made was awesome on the drive home - they had exactly 15 minutes steep time post mixing…

Do I make the best juice - NOPE. Do I prefer mine over 85% of everything out there - YEP. Can I spend under a few hours a month and make 1/2 gallon of juice in 20-40 flavors - YEP.

I keep all my stuff at a climate controlled warehouse (60-64 degrees, 58-62% humidity) and I keep it all in a bakers Proof Box. Box is completely blacked out so no light.

Secrets -

NO LIGHT. Humidity: 50-70% NO HIGHER. Temp: 60-70 degrees. Basically if you have a controlled cellar (wine) or a underground cave - its ideal. Then - BASE: pre-make your base - you can even do it in the bottles you are going to use. Let it steep/meld for a month - then ADD the toppings.

It’s like cheesecake with fresh whiskey caramel sauce vs. a whiskey caramel flavored cheesecake. If you do it right, there is simply no comparison - and the difference - the quality of the base ingredient. If you have a great cheesecake - it doesn’t matter what the next chef adds into the recipe - its simply will never be as good. Different analogy - STEAK (drooling now)... I'm a black and blue with bernaise guy. That means they age the steak for a month - allowing it to intensify and meld (sound familiar), and then they crank up the broiler - rub the steak with a flammable - oil or clarified butter - and let it catch fire - each side for about 45 seconds - it comes out cold raw in the middle and overly-seared on the outside. They make FRESH bernaise seconds before bringing me my feast. The steak is the BASE and the bernaise, the broiler, the oil or butter are all the toppings. If you think for a second that steak would have been better "marinated' - then you should overtake the steakhouses of the world, as you would be the ONLY one doing it that way.

One item I didn’t add - quality of flavorings. If you LOVE one particular flavor - then buy the components form FlavorArt, Capellas, and TFA. Make the juice with the identical stuff - and taste - decide who you like most. It costs more up front (not really you can get mini bottles form any of them) - but then you KNOW what is best. So if you like blueberry cream…. Make up a Cream only base with each of the three - and taste - decide which you like best. Use that ‘best’ base with the three blueberry flavors (or more some have v1 v2 etc) and try - and decide which cream is best which fruit is best…. Now - buy in bulk.

Ty for your input but I don't have any temp co trolled climate areas second I get nose blind/ vape blind when I vape the same flavor over time it just starts to all taste the same blueberry based flavors ect ect so I have to switch it up at least a few times a month but I do get the concept you are saying about the steeping I think that's my problem with my flavors I prepare for the now let it steep a couple days or so. So what i need to do is prepare more in advanced to make what i want so its ready dark place to store it got it temp controlled well don't have that, but I'll see what I can do I do like this forum not many elitist pompous a** hats ty for the help
Edit: meant that ^^ seriously not sarcastically

Possibly the only reason anyone would buy it concentrated in vg @SteveS45. I have vg based nic and use it because most of my mixes use multiple flavourings and after adding those it leaves little space for pg to be added. I like to keep my mixes at 80vg/20pg. The only other thing I would think is that pg is a flavour carrier so nicotine concentrated in pg would carry some flavour into your mixes? Only a theory with no evidence to back it up haha

I have tested the PG being a flavor carrier myth and found it to be untrue. Why do flavor makers make VGD or VG Dominant?

I can't say I've tested it and will take your word for the results. That being said I have heard bad things being said about flavour companies with vg concentrated flavours and how they carry those notes into ejuice. Real flavors being one of those that I've heard bad things about. Also that being said, taste is subjective and its possible I've been put off a company whose flavours may very well work for myself. I'm only a couple of years into the DIY juice hobby so still learning.

I couldn't have said it better my friend~! I never go by reviews or some DIY Self Proclaimed Gurus either because if I did I wouldn't have my EDV Tobacco Blends. Although there are some like @Teresa P who's opinions I hold in high regard~!

Thank You Steve.
Just getting started with the DIY
Wanting to make mine VG/PG 70/30 or 80/20 myself also

1st off you are very welcome~! If you do the math before hand you might find you need VG Nicotine to achieve that 80/20.

The apps vape tool and E juice lab have helped me greatly. The former also telling you how much a bottle costs to make up, if you input the prices for each item you have. Showed me just how cheap it can be to make your own juice over buying juice. After you've found a formula you like that is, the path there can sometimes get a little costly if you just dive in, so I would advise researching other people's recipes on E liquid recipes to have a good base idea of the different percentage amounts are used for individual flavours.

I just took my initial outlay and divided it by the amount of ML's I would make from my Liquid Barn Starter Kit. At 5¢ an ML I stopped caring after the first purchase. If I did I would need to calculate how much I save using the same Graduated cylinder all these years.

I'm not familiar with the product you're talking about, sorry. This app will add up all ml's of your flavourings, nicotine, pg and vg, and show a total relating to the prices you paid for each. As I've bought different sizes of pg and vg in the past I ran the different prices I had paid for them through the app, pretty soon realised that the bigger the bottle bought means the cheaper it'll be for you in the long run. Also means I need to buy a fridge specially for my ejuice materials as its overgrown the small tub it started as and I'll never use 10L of vg before it's questionable to use.
Sorry for the long post, a little glimpse into what's ahead maybe? Haha

And it's definitely cheaper to DIY than buy premade, providing you have a recipe you're happy with to start or an idea of how the mix will turn out. Otherwise, I've found, it can be a total stab in the dark with sometimes undesirable results. That's where the expensive part can come in, experimenting with flavours and strengths. Best to do research on forums to find others who have made the flavour you're trying to achieve and start there, also look for how one flavour can affect another depending on percentage used. It's quite complex but thoroughly rewarding :)

I have never tried to make clones or follow someone else's recipe because this way what I make is what I made. Hopefully~! Tweaking recipes is part of DIY.

I can't say I've attempted to make a Clone intentionally bit I did stumble across a really good, for me, mother's Milk impersonation without the gunky coils. I've also made mixes that I haven't seen on shelves, granted I haven't been looking, that please others around me too. Suppose that's the most rewarding part, having others come back for more haha
