too bad it twisted into a mess as soon as I started wrapping lol came up with a pretty clean 4*28g / 36g SFC
Very nice build. Fuse definitely looks perfect!:vino:

Held the spool at a comfortable distance instead of 1-2 yards away...I was more comfortable, it looked okay until I put it under the ol' microscope lol
This is 0.08 ohms 2x22/46 kanthal

View attachment 110242 View attachment 110243

It's tough, if I hold the spool as far as possible, it wraps the cleanest but I CANT SEE ANYTHING, and I'm leaning over like a crazy old lady which is tiring

If I sit and get comfortable...then it looks like this

This is a warm vape, never vaped 22awg fused before
The thinnest wire I'll use is just 40g, and, instead of holding the spool with my hand, I use the ziploc technique whilst I constantly keep looking at the angle between my lead and the last wrap by using two pairs of plastic reading glasses each one of which are 3× magnification. The ziploc technique allows the spool to turn smoothly inside a ziploc food bag that is 2/3 of the way closed, and that is kept standing upright in a box on the floor... you can tape the bag to the inside of the box and or add some weight to the box if necessary─anything to keep it stable. By doing this, the distance between the core wires and the spool will be long enough to allow yourself to concentrate more on keeping the angle in check whilst not having to worry about holding up your arm. With the cordless drill standing right against the edge on the table, you can actually even lean both forearms comfortably on your lap and still be able to guide your lead. You can gently nudge the box with your foot each time when you feel your lead starting to drag against your thumb. It's mindfulness. :giggle:

Mounted my helix. Vapes better than I thought it would, it’s tamer than the big fralien I had for sure.

And @Pegleg Meg , I see faces too lmao

This coil vapes a lot quicker than a fralien. Because of less wrap I guess. The fralien handled big power so smoothly though. The helix kinda reminds me of simpler coils.
I love ribbon, brings flavor like the twisted coils I made when I started but without the spitting.
I love the twisted frames because since I’ve been using the clamps and claptoning, I haven’t been twisting like I used to. Before I started claptoning, I was twisting and hive-ing and paralleling everyday learning about coils. I gotta mix it up more is what I’ve learned.

Great work

Thanks, all I can see is the mistakes but after how long the first pass took, I went ahead and finished because I wanted to vape it. And it's a super vape, so I will be breaking out the hand drill again next time I build! Next time, I will get the angle right and keep it right - all I can see is how I didn't skip the same number of twists the first pass, and how the wrap could lie inside the twists straighter with a steeper angle

I put it in the Pyro and remembered why I was raving about that rdta it when I got it lol

I was surprised how low it ohmed (0.14) being only 6x.3 and 32awg, I guess the twisted frames bring ohms lower than I thought

Edit - it's twisted 30 gauge, not 32...mystery solved

Here's an attempt at an alien stagg. This will be a good landmark for improving on the build.:stars2:View attachment 110362

That kicks ass, isn't it crazy how our eyes think spacing is different than it is?

Well...I always use big and wide ID dual coils, 3 or 3.5mm, keep the coils 2mm or closer to the deck and close to the air holes, and I always close the air at least half way

Right now because these coils don't spit At All, I get to use thin cotton and a 510 tip, those kick flavor up; it's more comparable to a bottom airflow atomizer than regular side airflow, to me

2*26g space claptoned with 36g framing a plain 26g fused with 38g all N80

I'm stoked about this one because it's so clean, I spun fast And I was sitting nice and comfy. AND I put color on it without it curling into one of Chef's Kaos coils. Bam!

It only took about a mile of 46 gauge to get to this point :teehee:

2x30/46
10 wraps 0.75 ohms

46! Maybe more like butler or valet, you know, classy but has lots of higher-ups

Spend 3 days in a row getting frustrated and perfectionistic over alien staggers, but celebrating over clean fused claptons lol...

I locked my mod after I got to that color stage lol
You sure are using up that 46g. Maybe you should try 46 aliens.:eek::eek:. I think I finally got the idea of the alien stagg after practicing for hours last night. I'm gonna try again today with some new tricks I figured out.:eek::eek:. I also had a jelly doughnut for breakfast.:eek::eek:

lmao :eek::eek: I can do them sorta, but it's really tiring for sticks big enough for cloud builds and both times I got clean sticks of like 3x28/46 or whatever, I slid a bunch of wraps off coiling it and it turned into a spaghetti mermaid pube mess, kinda broke my heart so I havent tried again in a while

You'll get a nice alien stagger next time I bet

Today on "What to Build": The Framed Staple Alien (my first successful work with ribbon). I think the kids call these Fraliens nowadays...Could have been cleaner, but my bifocals and I are pretty satisfied...specs: 2x26 gauge cores, 5 .5x1mm ribbon cores in the middle, aliened with 36 gauge. All Nichrome 80. 6 wraps, dual coils, .10 ohms. Vapes like a champ at 120 watts. Mounted in my Vandy Vape Kylin RTA on my SX Mini T Class Captain Golden Mod.

Just some Alien Framed Staples
28g N80 Frames, 8ply .3 (4ply of - KA1/N90), 36gN90

This N90 Stuff is AWESOME colors better than N80+SS and its performance is off the charts. What N80 is from Kanthal in response and heat is what N90 is to SS.....just F**king CR8Zy

Tried slentre braid today. Just tried to get the braiding down, managed to get about one inch of decent wire. Gonna try to get a coil done soon with some practice but maaaan its a slow build lol. At least I don’t have to use a drill so I can still watch tv and talk and stuff.

My first Clapton . Fused dual 26 awg Kanthal cores wound with 32 awg kanthal. That may not seem like much to you vets, but it is an achievement for me :shades: I couldn't get better focus with my phone.

very good start brother!! once you get it down, try and work on a smaller wrap than 32.. maybe try 36 next, you'll find it's not much harder, but a better vape.. then you can move on down to 38 (and if you're a true pro like meg, mach1ne, raymo, etc. 46g, 50g, etc lol) keep up the good work man, keep practicing and pushing yourself. there's lots of help, knowledge, and inspiration in this thread. welcome!

edit: you may also wanna try Nichrome 80 (N80) and/or 316L Stainless Steel

Great job brother. I remember doing my first fused clapton and thinking "this vapes so much better than any tank I have". I ended up being a sole unregulated mech mod user. Keep on building!!!:D

Looks super cool man. I personally don't have the patience for braids, and I take my hat off to anyone who does. A lot of them come out looking very nice like yours. I built one basic braid that was shown on The Art Of Vaping with Squidoode but I kinda rushed through it and it didn't really materialize into anything wonderful. Hats off to you for having the patience and the diligence to go through with some awesome braids.:vino:

Great coils!!! I love that they are all N80. I bet they dual out pretty low. I love the exact same build only as a single coil on a mech with 5 wraps. Great job!

holy shit you are doin it! great work man
Thanks @mach1ne ! Last night I went through a big piece of wire, failing most of the way through on the second pass until finally towards the end I found the right stretch for the fuse and a small piece came together. I think I can replicate what I was feeling on a larger scale. No question it's a challenging build, hence the tiny coil. I find it challenging when you wrap the coil, it sometimes takes the waves out of your alien wraps. I'm gonna try another build just to get loose again and then get back to it, whenever I come up with an alien stagg that was better than the last one I posted I'll post it up. Thanks for inspiring me to learn this build in the first place. Now I'm obsessed!:giggle:

That's a great idea, trying the same build over and over ends up being less fun than something different
Yeah exactly, I figure I'll probably do a couple fraliens, for one I know I'll vape them and love it, for another thing I don't want to loose my feeling when it comes to my favorite build! Meg, I know you don't like N80, what if I made you a couple single coil ShredTravolta style fraliens with all Kanthal, you could probably dual them. I promise I won't let you down.:D Whadya say?? It's the least I could do for the beautiful coils you sent me!

Does anyone here space their aliens? I was speaking to a builder and he said it was a good idea to space your aliens. He said sugary juice won't caramelize as fast since any extra juice left in the coils, after a hit, gets sucked back down by the cotton when the coils are spaced slightly. Fact or fiction???
